The tank is looking great!! So much growth since I last saw it! 👍🏻
I never even thought about something like a guard on the end of a siphon, I should probably get one. Turned round to talk to the wife while doing a waterchange and a Cory got his face stuck in the tube. Pipe to the drain is very crafty!
Great job brother .keep up the great work work we are watching you in the other side of the world ..great information about discus fish 👍👍👍👍👍
You're right. Each tank is different, each fish keeper is different. Just do what works.
i do 30% twice a week ,i like the hobby and maintenance side of fishkeeping ....i like doing things more than i enjoy watching the tank lol if i changed water once a month i would be bored stiff plus my ocd would be screming at me ....all my tanks are heavily stocked and very well filtered ,in a large tank with a few tiny fish you do have a lot of leeway
Most people make it so complicated
But you seriously made it simple to how to change the water 👍👍👍
I am also a discus keeper, and I do not do water changes unless there is a major issue in the tank. I use the planted, deep substrate method. I have only done two water changes in the last 3 years.
Wow, and the discus are happy? So as long as the water does not change much, the fish will be happy? I have discus too, just having them for a few months now. I have done one third water changes almost weekly. However, I am worried when I plan to leave for my holiday for about 3 weeks.
Very nice tank and fish.
You gain a Subscriber in your first two minutes awesome job man!!
What about any AUTOMATED process in the water changes schedule?
Hey - great video!
Did you start with juvenile discus? If so what water change schedule did you have while growing them out?
Recently started using water lettuce in my sump. That combined with anoxic filtration has really improved my water quality. I still run a drip to keep minerals coming in but I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Well I have a 260l with 4 Discus and do 20l wather change every few days to clean the bottom glass ( I keep them clearbottom ) also i have snails, ottos and 2 long fin pleco as cleanup
Your discus look great
Are you changing with water straight from the tap? I keep a barrel, about 32 g, that I preheat and keep active with a pump, because sometimes our water can see chloramine spikes from the municipal water supply. When it's water change time, I fit a pipe onto to that activating pump to refill the tanks. Works great, and is really not much effort. 4 beautiful blues and turquoises in a 55g with tetras, corys and fat happy bristlenose
From the tap but through a HMA filter, which removes chlorine & chloramines 👍
Gr8 vid pal hoping to be back on lives soon just got to get out of hospital lol 😆
Oh dear - hope you're getting better
"It's bleeding obvious" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that so made me chuckle ....
Dosent adding the cold water stress the fish out by cooling the water down to much
Which led light are you using on the discus tank.
I have a discus with cloudy eye who sight is not good. I have been doing 25% water changes and using Melafix pond at 1mm per 10 gallons. I have 6 large discus in a 150 gallon tank. So far after 14 days I am seeing no real improvement. Water perimeters are okay . Help needed. Is it possible to insert a photo on this sight?
Just wondering about your set up, do you refill with plain tap water + a 'prime' type conditioner, or do you use an HMA filter for this tank?
HMA filter on this one
@@AquariumAdventures What is that ? I live in country where.straight tapwater is well useable
As Ben O says....it’s a fluid situation..lol
I hadn't changed my water in like 6 months but now I did!
Great another video. Do you put your water directly into the tank from the tap and dechlorinate, or do you keep it in a bucket and dechlorinate, then put it after a few days? Do you think the dechlorinate machine is better? Thank you.
Either way works really
Are you using RO water and are you adding anything to the water.
No, and no. 👍
@@AquariumAdventures Why is that. I have always been led to believe that you cant use tap water. Or does this depend on the area you live in
@@theflossingfisherman7925 I use a HMA filter which removes chlorine, if I didn't have that I would use a water conditioner like seachem prime or similar. Other than that I don't do anything special. RO water is not needed to keep Discus - breeding, maybe, but not just to have a display tank.
It’s interesting to have another take on water changes. I’ve been doing scheduled water changes since my return to the hobby. If you have a stable tank which all inhabits are healthy then why change.....there is Ye old saying here I’m sure
personally, i believe, you can tell when you need to test your tank, not when something is wrong. an experienced keeper can identify when their tank is different, eg fish behaviour etc etc. that will lead you to knowing you need to test.
also another note. i have a page from aquatic science, which talks about nitrate and how they are not so important to worry about. basically they have been proven to be nowhere near as an issue as we may have previously thought as fish keepers. drop a comment if you want the link :) its very useful lots of pages about proper science behind fish. facts not peoples opinions like the hobby is full of haha.
Sure, drop a link - always eager to learn more!
@@AquariumAdventures sent the link. hopefully it sends? not sure if it allows us to send links lol? let me know!
In your video you mentioned a little about trace elements. Do you think Trace Elements by Seachem is necessary for a discus tank? Going to be starting up a discus tank and trying to get all the info I can. Thank you for your time and great vids.
This is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string answer' but it really all depends on your existing water. Products like 'trace elements' in my mind are mostly for people who use RO water, then re-mineralise. If you have horrible water and need to use RO, then re-min products are absolutely required and very good. If you aren't using RO, I think they would cause more problems than solutions.
Basically it come's down to know why you are doing them in your particular situation rather then just doing it because...
I do 99% biological filtration with the only water change being filter maintenance so a 10 gallon water change per 2 weeks on a 65 gal. Have lost 2 fish in 2 years both were box store buys.
The stock load will tell a fish keeper when to do a water change .

50% 1 a week for discus,20 years no problems
Your discus lived for 20 years from one water change a week? That’s bonkers
@@videogazer801 no moron.
How much did you change?
He changed 50% of the water
What size is your tank.
This one is roughly 5 x 2 x 2
Don’t suppose you’ve got any brighter T-shirt’s have you? 👀
Challenge accepted.
Ru filling straight from tap or u have standing water
Straight from tap (through HMA filter)
Nice tank it would look even better if you didn't have the black gravel, would have a cleaner look to it.
I like the black gravel!
I only change 20-25% a month or a month and half. This seems to work for me. My reasoning is that its a rainfall. I don't have discus...
How often should you a change in a 10g tank
In my 10g tank I have 1 Ram and 3Neon Tetras and some live plants
Guys do u need ro water for asain discus or not please get back to me quickly
No - not needed unless you have awful water.
Do what works for you but don’t do massive water changes or do them everyday. Once a week is good 10-20%.
I do love listening to so called RUclips experts. Not. Lol. I do water changes. Nature does them too
bro discus only need 50 litres
