    14:03 - "I can't believe they're portraying the Libyans like this."
That portion of the movie takes place in 1985. In the 1980s the Libyan government carried out hijackings and bombings in several European countries, as well as international assassinations of political dissenters from their own country. There are quite a few movies with storylines based in the 80s in which Libyans characters are similarly portrayed.

@@danielthibeault9981 Doc also mentions Jerry Lewis, a comedian that played kooky characters, as an unlikely Vice President. Plus Jane Wyman, Reagan's ex-wife, as First Lady. Ironically, Reagan divorced Wyman in 1948 and was already married to Nancy Davis by 1952, three years before BTTF's setting of 1955. Perhaps Doc never followed the gossip columns of the day and thought Wyman was still Mrs. Reagan.

Back in 2015 I got to meet Lea Thompson. Still very beautiful. Later that year I got to meet Christopher Lloyd. He wasn't well at the time but I think it was just a cold or something.
Number two next, it's great and then you'll get to what I feel is the best of the entire series. Number 3!! OH yeah. It is amazing.
    Y'all be safe.

Truly a phenomenon of the 1980s.
Don't talk about this era of film without this classic.
Also among the many iconically helmed features of filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.
1 of 2 films that starred Michael J. Fox in the same year while doing the tv series, Family Ties and one of Christopher Lloyd's most iconic roles ever.
Blending the genres of science fiction, adventure and comedy in a way that was undenialble.
Changing one's past or even altering the future of one place or many people does mess with your head at first.
But it is all good fun and affected a lot of us as viewers, I watched this on video and was blown away by it at age 5.
Huey Lewis and The News with their 2 songs (Power of Love, Back In Time) are true classics still great.
One of Spielberg's legendary productions, No.1 film of 1985 and Oscar-winner for Best Sound Effects Editing.
Wendie Jo Sperber (Marty's sister) passed away in 2005.
By all means, please react to the sequels as they are perfection too.

That's a Kit Kat Clock you see in the films opening. Those clocks first came out in 1932. They cam in multiple colors--black, red, and white. The black one--the one you see in the film--always seemed to me to bear more than a passing resemblance to Felix the Cat, an animated cartoon character that dates all the way back to 1919.

The band that Marty played with in the beginning was the news from Huey Lewis and The News, and the judge was the lead Huey. Who sang the power of love song.

    • @SMAAAASHTV
      @SMAAAASHTV Месяц назад

No, it was not The News from Huey Lewis. It was Paul Hanson (Michael J Fox's guitar teacher for the film) Lee Brownfield and Robert DeLapp, who were both actors and never part of Huey's band. The song they played was indeed and instrumental version of Power of Love, and of course Huey was the "you're just too darn loud" judge.

When you asked if 1955 Doc got it right about VP Jerry Lewis, and Jack Benny as Sec of State, Jane Wyman as First Lady. No, the first two guys were Doc's humorous sarcasm, and Reagan later divorced Jane Wyman and married Nancy---who became the First Lady.

Tom Wilson (Biff) is an extremely nice guy in real life - apparently he used his own experience being bullied in high school as the basis for Biff. He was talking about how between takes of the car scene he was profusely apologizing to Lea Thompson because he felt so bad pretending to do that to her and she reassured him that it was ok.

2:00 One clock on the floor, on its side, had the correct time.
8:50 Christopher Lloyd based his portrayal partly on Einstein, partly on the conductor Stokowski.
24:40 No, none of the others held those offices. First Lady was Nancy Reagan, President Reagan's second wife.
38:20 Kissing her brother? It could be Marty's reaction. Also, Biff to the rescue for the third time.
44:55 I keep wishing Marty would blurt it out without introductory junk. "That's too late!" "You'll be shot!" "You'll be killed!" Something short and fast. But now, we have Doc's response to "Your life depends on it!" There comes a time when one either has to give up or take things in one's own hands.
46:30 Ten minutes was *way* too short. Half an hour at the bare minimum, but preferably a lot longer. The film had an unnecessary innumeracy in having Marty run more than two miles in ten minutes.
50:20 I also wish that Doc had figured it out himself, eventually.
The ending was never intended as a sequel hook. It was merely a joke with the trope, "And the Adventure Continues". It caused the creators serious problems when it came time to write the sequel.

Growing up with this movie, it's kinda surreal that it's been almost 40 years since it was released. And now, the 80's must seem as distant and foreign to a lot of people today as the 1950's felt to Marty and the people in the 80's.

Man, people can't even drive safely on the ground. Can you imagine a flying car crashing through your roof at 2 AM because some drunk driver passed out behind the wheel. Or hell, being crushed by a flying car because it stalled and fell from the sky? It adds a whole 'nother level of vehicular danger and we probably don't need.

    1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun".
    2. The teacher that tells Marty, "Hold it fellas, I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. "Heart of rock and roll" etc.
Marty was playing that song at the audition.
    3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots and small things like his elbow are still in the movie.
    4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic.
    5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene.
    6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA🙄
    7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955.
    8. IMVHO part II is my favorite of the trifecta.
    9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

its not a double break.. it is a manual transmission car. the 3rd pedal is a clutch pedal... so to start driving you have to kick down the clutch..then shift to 1st gear.. slightly let go the clutch until the car starts to roll and at the same time you have to push on the gas... 2nd gear let go gas.. kick down the clutch shift to 2nd gear, let go clutch and push gas and so on. Manual transmission is very rare in the US.

I have watched almost all of the BTTF reactions, and it is a singular thing that no one - I mean NO ONE knows who Huey Lewis is, especially considering how he practically lived on the Top 40 pop charts for the entire second half of the 1980’s, and performed a lot of the music in this movie. His band, “the News” was all over MTV. Yep, it is a very, very strange thing.

24:48 he didn't guess them right. I think the Jerry Lewis reference was just a crack at George Bush, who was VP in 1985. Back in the 50s, Ronald Reagan was married to Jane Wyman, but they got divorced a few years later. Jack Benny was a comedian who was known for being cheap, which was his trademark. Hence, secretary of the treasury.

Libya had been the world's worst state sponsor of terrorism for decades when this movie came out. It's leader Colonel Gaddafi took power through a coup in 1967 ,and killed thousands of political opponents, and gave millions over the years to terrorist groups like the IRA and a few years after Back to the Future their operatives were accused of planting and detonating a bomb in a commercial plane over Lockerbie in Scotland ,that murdered 270 innocent people altogether.
