Client/ Server Architecture is an Infrastructure style where Client Computers receive Services from Servers.
Servers are composed of the Physical Machine, the Server Operating System, Services Software and Configurations.
Clients are composed of the Physical Device, the Client Operating System, and the Client Application.
In Client/ Server Architecture not only are you responsible for the services, but also the operating systems, hardware, and networking.
Client/ Server Architecture worked very well when users only had one device, and everything was on the same network. As remote working, and then the explosion in devices per user had occurred Client/ Server Architecture has become more difficult to manage and maintain.
When future proofing your infrastructure you should think about what services, such as email, can be offloaded to cloud providers, which servers should be virtualized, and which should be moved offsite using colocation or MaaS.

I realize you never stopped, but I have to say again, I’m stoked you’ve done more tech videos lately. Always loved your content since I found the old videos years ago.

Thank you for take. My engineering office is stuck with this model because our CAD apps eats up bandwidth. It’s one of the last things we couldn’t yet move to the cloud.

How is cloud services not client server architecture? I believe it is but the datacenter and hardware is managed by aws/google/azure.

cloud, like most things in IT, is just fashion. there's zero reason to outsource everything to amazon or microsoft, bc you're lazy. It's not worth it
the infrastructure is basically the same as client-server in terms of hardware. which means you can upgrade/downgrade your own hardware
and the softwares are just bonkers. aws cloud services or azure or whatever is more complicated and completes less than a normal server. that's why people migrate to their own clouds and servers if they become too big
so if there's nothing that cloud can provide compared to normal architecture, there's zero reasons to include it in your stack
cloud is just there for more imperialism of the big corpo, it's more restricions on what you can do with your own phuking system.
it's wank material for hypsters or
