    People need to understand that Sugar Ray Robinson was past his prime in these fights. His best years aren’t on tape. 200 - 173, most of them loses came when he was old. This guy was Muhammad Ali's, Joe Louis, Roberto Duràn and of course Sugar Ray Léonard's Idol, so you know he was the real deal.

    Sugar Ray Robinson was hands down the greatest fighter who's ever laced up gloves. He started from Featherweight and went all the way up to Light heavyweight, that would be damn near 100lbs by todays standards smh. Robbie was the most beautiful, innovative and fighter that ever lived. The term "Pound for pound" was coined by him. Robbie literally killed a man in the ring, and dreamt about it the night BEFORE smh. Robinson represented a different type of fighter that bridged the gap of the immotals of the 1930's to the 1960's. If Robbie were alive today he'd have been like a battle worn full grown lion eating brand new cups and taking over a pride.
    Another godly fighter but not as quite as good was Henry 'Homicide Hank' Armstrong.

    Ali is a legend and without a doubt a top 3 boxer ever but we all know his legacy is as great as it is because of what he did outside of the ring. If he didn’t do that he’d be just another special boxer. When we’re talking about strictly boxing Sugar Ray Robinson is by far the greatest ever! His record speaks for itself. He lost to Jake LaMotta then came back and whooped him and when he retired the first time his record was 131-3-1-1. Simply amazing! It sucks that he doesn’t get the praise he deserves like Ali, Mayweather, or Tyson. Only true boxing fans appreciate his greatness and know just how great he was.

    He's from back when fighters didn't make nearly as much and were far more active in competition. If you want to be great at fighting a long standing belief is to fight well... you need to fight often. You say accurate and sharp, you're less nervous with an adrenaline rush that can fuck you up and always stay close to your weightclass so your body is always ready. Robinson had a premonition or a dream the night before a fight that he would kill his opponent with a perfect left hook.
    And, sure enough, his nightmare came true.
    He hit the guy with that perfect left hook, and he died as a result of his injuries the next day.

    I've studied boxing film and been involved with the sport my whole life. Sugar Ray Robinson was the most complete boxer-puncher I've ever seen on film - maybe not as ruthless as a prime Joe Louis, nor as frightening as the footage of Sam Langford...but he was the most complete.
    He could do it all - outbox you & make you miss for many rounds, inside-fight & destroy your body, counter you going backwards, & brawl going forwards...and he could do any of these things at will. He was fast, had 1-punch KO power, threw many punches from all angles, and scariest of all - he had the strange ability to observe new boxing strategy in front of him & quickly imitate them in the course of 1 extra fight (It usually takes most high-level professionals months to implement new technique).
    Bert Sugar (famous boxing historian) said: “If God would have said make me a fighter, the perfect fighter, the closest anyone could of been to that would have been Sugar Ray Robinson.”

Which is why he was considered the best, he was the first boxer to win the world title 5 times and that included middleweight and welterweight. I believe he didn’t have the toughest competition but no matter what era he would have fought in he was still the best technical boxer ever.

    He'd be able to take heavyweights,I'm sure of it. After all,a brain is a brain,and a kidney is a kidney,no matter how big you are. Sugar hit well hard,easily as hard as many heavyweights,plus he had more speed. He could ko you going backwards.

    This man is The Greatest Fighter of all times in all of boxing, Pound For Pound.. there will never be another.. there is a story.. that one night before a fight he had a dream that he had killed his opponent in the fight... so he didn’t want to take the fight anymore but a priest or a shrink probably both (I don’t really remember or know too much how the story went) convinced him to going on with the fight and just like his premonition in his dream his opponent ended up passing away.....

  • @Marcus-TM1
    @Marcus-TM1 5 лет назад +1

    Sugar Ray Robinson is arguably but realistically the goat! A master boxer..But because of Ali's greatness and overall social and political influence outside the ring most people don't wanna really argue that point. Even though Ali himself said he was the best and pattern his skills and style in the ring after him. Ray Robinson had 108 knockouts in his career! That's more than twice as many Mayweather fights.
