Hi, thanks for the review. I think what might explain Kona's better efficiency is (1) the heat pump and (2) the lower average speed.
With the Tesla, you were on average at 62kph. With Kona, at 49kph (-13kph/-21%).
I own a Kona EV and notice that 10kph less in speed can have already a noticeable impact on the consumption. I'm pretty sure the 20% in speed difference explains most of the consumption difference.
Would also be interesting to see if using the ECO mode helps or not? In my everyday use, I'm always in ECO mode. Not for consumption reasons, but simply because it's smoother (and because wifey complains that the car is too sporty in normal mode 😅).

Aww my girlfriend hates it when I accelerate fast and she bumps her head back on the seat too 😂
I think you’re right but it was definitely a win on the overnight range consumption test as well!

De Cona did low speed because of more traffic the man said.

Nice review! I am getting mine 2021 64 kWh Kona EV in few weeks time. White as well :-)

yeah i wish the kona had active LKA so that it stayed centered. the warning / auto steer is a good safety feature but its vomit inducing if you try and let it stay in the lane on the highway.

Thank you for this review! We are currently experiencing our 2nd week of -40C weather and as much as I want an EV, I am very nervous because my commute is 110km each way.
That's why I'm looking at the Kona - great distance for the price of the large battery.
I have also had to help out my coworker who owns a Ford Mach-E twice during the last two weeks because her EV couldn't handle the cold.
Do you have any other electric vehicles you would recommend I look at considering the distance I want to travel and the extreme cold?

Honestly, Tesla Model 3 Long Range would be your best bet with that much driving. Plus with the vast supercharging network of the Tesla you can charge if you ever fall short vs the Mach-E with a very unreliable charging infrastructure.

Did the Kona you were driving only have Lane Keep Assist? My 2020 Kona EV has both Lane Keep Assist and Lane Following Assist. It's still no autopilot but LFA will follow the lane smoothly round corners. You have to dig through the menus to enable LFA (it's disabled by default) and then it comes on automatically whenever smart cruise control is on and it can see clear edges to the lane.

Yeah this had both. It was nice but nothing compared to how a Tesla handles. Specially when it comes to turnings and corners

The Kona has a bigger battery compared to the M3 standard plus. 64kwh vs 55kwh

That Kona looks like the 2020 version. Not the 2021 version. You can tell by the lights and the grill on the front of the car.

The battery chemistry is the reason why the kona is better. lithium prosphate polymer in much more durable in extreme climate than the lithium ion!
