this is pretty embarassing haha didnt realize it was THIS bad but this is the truth and im not goin to hide that im not the greatest sewing machine owner haha but i pledge to try harder in the future! haha
I just cleaned the feed dogs and bobbin housing yesterday and had just some lint but it was enough to be making noise. Saw yours and I was like O.O GIRL
Great advice. Excellent advice and it was actually good to see your “ dirty” machine.....let’s others see what you are describing to do and where the lint collects. I use a large bird feather ( no I don’t go around plucking birds....) we have a lake near our home and I collect the shedded feathers.....they are softer for the internal areas and fit into all the small crevices.....a few drops on the feather and they reach inside where your hand cannot! Thank you for sharing this valuable information....most (maybe or maybe not have ) like me , several machines that cost quite a few dollars and I like to keep all of them in good working condition.
I use a vacuum attachment while also using a soft paint brush, toothbrush or the cleaning brushes made specifically for sewing machines. The lint gets sucked up instead of falling down into the machine. Also, remove the needle so you don't get pricked. I clean the bobbin area whenever I change bobbins and take things apart after each big project. And refer to your owner's manual for oiling. Thanks for this informative tutorial!
I bought my machine over 10 years ago and hardly ever use it. It was really good to actually see what a dirty machine looks like. I took mine apart today and it was clean. Thank you for this video. Do you have one on how to oil the machine? There is nothing in my Manuel. :)🌻
I love watching videos with hopes of gaining some tips and or tricks. Anything I didn't already know I gladly absorb. If you watch videos, I'm sure you'll relate to statement. A lot of the time its things I've learned 10 years ago and have. Weeded out the tried and true vs. Not so much. Then I run across videos like yours & learn something very helpful. Makes me think to myself... Where's your common sense been Nichole? I am referring to using a paint brush to apply oil to our machines. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I am pretty I put the bobbin hold back in wrong and this video had the best angle for me to see that. If you use the machine frequently, how often do you suggest oiling it?
How often should you oil your machine? For reference I just got mine a month ago to make masks, I use it everyday but my projects are all very small. Thank you for this video! Came here looking on how to oil it and learned that there’s probably a whole mess under there! 😭
Thank you, this was super helpful! I was having trouble disassembling my machine before I looked for this video, and honestly mine looked much worse under the hood 😂 I haven’t cleaned it for about a year…oops
It can work for sure but it also can push the lint and dirt furthur into the machine creating future problems. so just beware and get your machine serviced by a professional once in a while to make sure that dust in the back gets cleaned out
@@Charmedbyashley Actually, I used it the other day because I’ve been making my son a big tee shirt quilt for Christmas with all of his old varsity tee shirts. I put polar fleece on the back and it causes tremendous fluff to get back in the bobbin area. My machine locked up on me. I think that may be the problem. I use an old Brother LS2125 and have been looking on RUclips for videos on how to take it apart to find the problem. So far I’m stuck, still have to sew the binding on,and Christmas is coming soon.
Thanks for this! I've been making masks (COVID-19 quarantine) - and I've NEVER cleaned my machine. I'm not a seamstress! Only had it for hemming up jeans and stuff. I hope this is the reason why my machine is now messing up the thread. I'm also going to look at "tension issues" - because it might be that too.
@@Charmedbyashley It definitely improved my machine - I had to finish some masks last night and it was a lot better. But today, I think I might mess with the tension more. Thanks for this video, very helpful!
Hi charmed by Ashley can you make a tutorial how to Assemble the sowing machine, I'm having trouble getting the threads to connect the thread from the bobbin to the thread on the needle.
Hi, thank you for showing the video which I do keep up with cleaning. I hope you can help me with something else. I cannot release the wheel when winding my bobbins so the needle is still connected and goes up and down. Help. x
Jacqueline Horton With yr left hand grip the outside of the big right hand wheel, if you have one. Wtih yr right hand turn the smaller inner wheel anti-clockwise a small amount, and the needle movement will be disabled. After winding bobbin turn small knob clockwise to tighten.
My brother ds1300 is giving light electric shock near needle and surrounding metal parts, I have proper earthing, but the plug I got is only 2 pin (India). How to solve the problem?
it cant hurt to oil your machine, if you want to oil then take out the bobbin housing and using a brush dipped in oil brush on the oil onto the inside of the bobbin housing. if this doesnt seem to help your machine function it may need to be serviced and deep cleaned.
I watched this specifically to learn where to oil it, but you skipped right over that part! How can we know which "little parts" we should be oiling if you don't show us? :-(
ahh so sorry! all those little moving parts i pulled out you can use a paint brush and pain on the oil, i put oil allllllllll over the bobbin housing and the feed dogs, dont be shy! haha
Shirley Huestis There are three places to avoid getting oil. 1: the drive belt, because traction, not slipperiness is needed. 2. Electricals. 3. Where your project fabric or fingers are going. Oil actively attracts dust. It is also possible to use WD40. Where moving metal rubs metal, that's what needs lubricant.
I watched the video for that very reason too. I was a little frustrated because I had my machine opn and was ready. I just went to my manual and it said not to oil the machine ever. It comes with the oil it needs already in it. Not sure what machine you have, but my manual for my brother SQ9285. It looks exactly like the one in the video.
Nice tip for keeping it stay healthy. But... tonight I literally killed mime because I want to put some oil to my 2.5 years old FS70 on the engine. So I OPEN IT UP...and then I screwed up when I put all together . It's just DIED 😱😱😱 why oh why am I doing this for 😭
Play nice, Randy! You’ll make more friends that way! Lovely video! Loved getting to see where the dust and lint would collect the most and how to handle it. Super useful!
this is pretty embarassing haha didnt realize it was THIS bad but this is the truth and im not goin to hide that im not the greatest sewing machine owner haha but i pledge to try harder in the future! haha
no worries. real life. maybe add tweezers to pick out some lint. thanks for sharing.

Wow! I'm terrified to open up my sewing machine now 😅 Thanks for this great, clear, informative video!

i oil it maybe once a month :D

are you still looking for advice on this?
Yes
Depends on the machine. I have the Brother SQ9285 and the manual says not to iol it at all. It is made with all the oil it needs.
Thank you so much, this was way more helpful than the manual was!
Thank you for the tip to mark a cleaning date on my calendar, because time flys when I'm working on a project with a deadline.

Thank you. This helps.
I def need this video!! I was just thinking how I’ve never cleaned mine. I also have a brother!
I use one of those spray cans of compressed air. Seems to work pretty well.

I am honestly afraid to see how dirty mine is, but I am going to have to clean it out after watching this video.
Best tip ever: use a nickel as a screwdriver-it works SO much better than the lame screwdriver that came with the machine
Thank you for the video. I do want to know where and how I can put the oil. Lol.
Same here, I was in search of a machine oiling video tutorial
@@kimberlytia me too!! I can't seem to find one. There's quite a few cleaning ones but no one shows where to actually put the oil in.. lol

FYI use a quarter to loosen the screws when the screwdriver is being obnoxious

ANy specific places you think should be oiled?

Informative video but maybe it would be safer to remove the needle before taking things apart they are rather sharp.
Yes would highly recommend 👌
Grear video. I use a dime to get the plate screws out.

I use a coin instead of the screwdriver.
How in all of hell was that still working?
your guess is as good as mine! haha great machine i suppose?

Elsie and Ianna
What a filthy mess. You need to clean the machine way more often. No excuses. Use cotton swabs as all that crud sticks to them.
good tip!
