- This was a wonderful time with family and friends here on the homestead! The Mangalitsa pig is a great center piece, but it’s the love and fellowship that brings us together!

Micah, this video reminds me of the days when I was your boys age. Hog roast, oyster fest, Turtle stews, it just took me a back. I miss the Ole family get togethers and fellowshipn' with aunts, uncles and so on. Most of my family is now passed and the one's still alive well, it just ain't like it used to be. The joy and nostalgia I get out of your videos can't be matched. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family and remind those boys of yours how lucky and precious these moments are! May GOD continue to bless you on all your endeavors! Btw-still waiting on that Mangalitsa bacon giveaway!😆🤣
I feel exactly the same way..many times it brings me to tears..of the beautiful memories these videos elicit...
I’m so glad that these videos are of great value to you!!! It makes the effort of making them so well worth it!!!

That was a true Pig Picken, brought back some great memories of me and my dad doing that years ago the same way. Thank you Sir.👍👍Apple cider sauce base in my neck of the woods here in NC.
That’s what I used….. it was great!
Very nice! I'm sure I would feel right at home around you good people. That had my mouth watering! Don't get nice home cooked meals like that anymore. Reminds me of when I was a kid at the Grandparents. Wonderful meals! Dad and the uncles were always taking out some instruments and making some music. I really enjoyed that my Friend. Thanks for sharing!
That’s definitely not as common as it should be!!
Family, friends and food.......the best times. Stay blessed!

Them was the good old days I remember me and old coot doing a whole hog going to spit from 4th of July 3 days it took us but we eat that crackling right off the pig then was a good old days glad to see somebody still doing them warms old man's heart 🐝👌
It’s a great thing! I enjoyed it immensely!
A meal fit for a king! Kudos once again for an excellent video. Great editing
We had an absolute blast!!!
When we cook a pig we put chicken wire on both sides of it. Makes it easier to flip. Beautiful family! Looks like a great time.
Great point! It’s not easy!
Man I'm coming over to your house for some delicious food. What a spread. Keep up the great work 👍💯
Thanks buddy! I just did the pig, so I can’t take credit for all of it! There’s some great cooks in the family!!
This brings back memories. Dad's family would have get togethers. They would kill a hog, scrap it, and cook it on open grill. All of us would line up with plates in hand. Grandma would get the brains and head to the house. She would cook them with scrambled eggs. This was back in the 50's /60's.
Yes indeed! Used to be common place…. Now it’s a rarity!
Love the get together. Brings back memories
It’s a great time!
Mr McGee, I love ur show man, makes me wanna go back to the country, I'm going back
I was raised in town till I was 17…….. I never really felt at home till I got out! Country living is definitely for me!!!
We do whole hog in South Carolina. One way you can use less wood and get a more even heat is to place cinder blocks all the way around then put a piece of tin roof on the top. Basically making an Smokey oven
Yes that works great!
Yes! Your family really knows how to put on a beautiful spread!!! 🙂🐖🍨🌽🍞🥧🥛
That was really good! We get along good safe to say!😂😂😂
Wow that was a lot of work 💪glad it turned out controlling the heat is key 🔑 to success thanks for sharing keep the cameras rolling from Florida
Yes indeed! A grease fire will ruin it in a minute!!😂😂
Bro,I love it, keep doing what u do man, may The Lord Bless You, love ur show
We’re absolutely having a blast brother! Wouldn’t think of stopping now!
Looks delicious and what a nice Birthday party :) Thanks for sharing and God bless
It was definitely delicious and a great reunion!!
awesome cook! great family traditions!!!
That was so much fun!
We always add a little pinch of the pot ash from the fire to the water. Idk how it works but it sure does make a difference. Papaw says it's the lye in the pot ash.
I’ve heard that before… definitely need to try it!
Hog was honored to get onto your lavish dinner table.
Yes he was!!!😍
Heart warming and good times
It really was! I’d do it all over again!
Wow! Thank you for sharing.
God bless.
You’re absolutely welcome!

Turned out looking awesome ! I bet you guys had a good time with everyone over for a family reunion . We haven't had a family reunion since my grandma passed away . How are the potatoes doing ? We got the rest of ours planted over the weekend . The potatoes we planted back in March in wood chips are just now starting to come up . I hope you guys have a great evening !
Ours came up and got burned back a couple of times …. But doing ok now! I haven’t planted the rest yet 😂🤣😂

That’s the best I could do at the time! Next time I’ll be prepared with a terabyte of storage!!
Family ,friends and fun,good food
Absolutely amazing!!
Do you have to hurry up and get the hair off before it cools to much or once you scald them it doesn't matter how much time you take ?
It seems that as time goes on that it tightens back up. I’ve definitely double dipped 😉
God blessed you and your family sir….
Thanks so much! God bless you as well!!!
Cut it again around where the ham joins the backbone so you can fit it all on the grill easily.
A get together is a wonderful thing. Pork is alright once in a while, but give me beef any day.
It was a great time with family! I like it all!!🤣😂🤣
Too hot to handle...
Shoot, oh wait, nevermind...I need to keep my comments clean, lol
🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣
Yeah that’s LongbowbanjoAL that likes the colorful ones!😂😂😂
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures 😁
What happened to the Helium! 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
What is the ideal temperature to scald the pig for scrapping? What is the ideal temperature for pulling the skin off like in one of your other videos?
For hair removal you need 147° + or -…….. for skin removal 155 to 160 is good!
Thank you so much I love your videos makes feel like I could possibly do it my self.
I guarantee you that you can!
that is how we clean pigs in southern philippines. but dip the pig to a boiling water and scrape the skin and hair with a spoon or a knife not with your bare hands! bless you with more pigs!
Thanks my friend! These pigs have such long curly hair that we can do it this way😂
I love nature and animals but I tell you something, I’m from boring old fucking north England and I’d love to go the U.S and do this what you’re doing. Good old fashion way. I bet it tastes delicious. It definitely looks the part lol.
Ahhhh that warms the cockles of me heart!!!
😎👍
Have you ever wrapped a half of a hog in aluminum foil and dug a hole and placed it in the ground and put the dirt back over it? Then built a fire over it and let it cook until it gets done?
No I haven’t, but if I did I’d put coals under dirt and under the pig, and cover with dirt I think
Nice video
My pleasure!
Did I miss the video of the day in the life of Frank? Or is it still coming soon?
Still to come!😂
Creator, is there a reason you don’t use hog scrapers?
The Mangalitsa has such long hair that it’s easier to pull it by hand as shown.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures Thank you.
The water should be between 140 and 145 degrees
Woow wild pork BBQ
Mangalitsa is an old line breed but not wild.
Couldn't you use a power fan tip on a pressure washer and just role the hair off after dipping it in hot water. ???
That might work!
I’ve seen them pressure washed without scalding and it caused a lot of blood to form under the skin….. I don’t want that!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I have to find it again but on youtube a Mexican fella took a piece of cold roll and welded 4 pieces of flat bar long ways and stuck that in a drill worked like a power scraper. That sure beat the heck out of shaving with knives after scalding. Done that many of times back in the day growing up in south louisiana..
These long haired pigs are easily plucked like a chicken 😂😂😂
Sunog man bai
Mr. Mcgie how does a guy go about getting one of your hog?
I only sell piglets. You raise them. You can get me on Facebook messenger @Micah McGie
Or email drmdmcgie@gmail.com
How do you spell the name of that hog?
It’s a Mangalitsa
if that was a purebred hog its a 1500 to 2000 dollar pig, about six years ago I almost bought a breeding pair 3500 for them at 8 weeks old ,,
I sell them for 120. Weaned
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures the person I was in contact with was the main importer of them and one of 5he main person to bring them state side. .. ..
Heath Putnam?
You must have some Pentecostal people in your family.
What were the signs??😉
You may have to dip it again
💯👍🍻🍻🍻😎🇺🇲
Wouldn't Skinny be faster ?
In some ways maybe….. but I need the skin to protect the meat in this situation.
you burnd it lol
The sugar got black…… but the meat was amazing! The way the rib bones work and the skin on the other side it was perfect
827th!
BOOM 💥
Oh my God I thought that was a dog
Pretty sure I wouldn’t have titled it hog roast lol if you ever see epic dog roast you will know😂😂😂
That was absolutely brilliant 💫 me and mom enjoyed every minute of the vid. So Beautiful too see your family enjoy themselves 💖
