I'm not claustrophobic, but the absence of windows in the office area makes me uncomfortable. I couldn't work for hours in such a room. (I know there's a skylight, but it's not the same.) For the rest, it's a nice studio!
Windows are a must. Without windows, you almost feel robotic at the end of the day; you need those brief pauses of looking out the window, airing out the room or listening to the sound of life coming from outside.
Disclosure: I'm a new fan. I just have to say thank you for the amazing and entertaining content you create and for being so inspiring. Your light-hearted spirit is a breath of fresh air as I sit here going through you tube university for hours on end trying to super-charge/fast-track my photography skill set (yeah, newbie). I usually don't leave comments and you will probably never see this but just wanted to say I was inspired to drop a comment because I was starting to feel overwhelmed and discouraged and noticed you streamed this video on none other than my big 4-0 years of life on planet earth with the word "DREAM" in the caption as I dream about this new photography venture that has been overwhelming and exciting and at the same time, scary AF (not referencing Auto-Focus, get it, photography joke. I must be official. Ha. Or a big dork. Probably the latter.) Anyway, THANKS for making me feel inspired and like this was a sign from the Universe to keep moving forward.
There's something I think many people aren't saying. Peter McKinnon makes you love anything. From the room office, to the office with Matti, to the dream studio, to this! And even the next one! It's a great one!
The overhead of nice office space begins to wear you down over time. There is something to say about scaling down so you can scale up creatively. Nice job!
Quick Tip: I know you got the sandbags as a counterweight on your c-stand but you usually put the tightening screw for the arm on the right side so that it can't get lose over time.
11:02 these shots were so good I bet a lot of people looked over how much effort went into that sequence he even acted surprised at the end when you jumped over!
@@igugulethu7 ok... It's a basic/fundamental studio space, is it not? And he made it into something a lot of small time content creators would dream of, did he not?

Going back to what made you who you currently are! Good luck and have fun, brother. I’m glad to be along for the ride.
Lots of businesses now are getting back to work and getting new locations post pandemic. It's really good to see! Great efforts and good luck as there is more work ahead.
So rad! I just did the same thing downsizing my studio space and partnered with a marketing group training one of their staff to run the studio and offer more services to their clients… Moved only the gear that is needed to achieve the goal. Simple neat and clean no nonsense! Congrats and keep climbing bro!

I want something just like that, not within my budget right now but maybe in a couple of years. I suck at designing a studio and still trying to figure mine out. Working outside is definitely nice, I got an amazing view in my backyard when its not 110 outside right now.
I gotta say... it almost feels like STARTING OVER and I find that very exciting. I'm sure I speak for everyone here that I feel fortunate to be a part of the new UPCOMING CHAPTERS! Good Luck my Brothers!
Love how you can make the basic nothing look so nice. Definitely can see the experience coming through. I can’t stop seeing the drop tile ceiling with the air vents though. Maybe it can be blacked out or something? Curious what ideas you may have to help clean that up too. Can’t wait to see the evolution of the new space!!
You know Pete, you're one of the amazing photographers I follow! I really want to go on a shoot with you someday and learn a lot from your experiences.
Bro your intro is such a flex I can't man P.S. If you have any giveaways for a camera in mind PLEASE do a Canon C100 MK2 one. Would be very, VERY appreciated.

I'm trying to build out my basement into a studio. Low ceilings unfortunately, BUT I would absolutely love a video on how you set up your main angle!! I need advice!
Hey, I actually work as a Health and Saftey co-ordinator and looking at the wires I thought it looked like a distater waiting to happen. But it got be thinking. The light above your desk, how hot does it typically get? If it often gets quite hot maybe not have it touching the roof tiles 😀
@@OGtalks True, but even high powered LED Film lights produce heat, specially over time, not enough to start a fire per say, but still something to be careful of. Aperture and Arri lights specially as they are meant to be used over a long period of time, so do very much create heat.

with light dome's you can have these filters that direct the light your using to focus one a specific place instead of leaking and filling a room. The filter looks like a net made up of little squares, that goes over the dome.

Been a fan since way back when you where shooting videos at the home office with gear in closet. It has been fun to follow you over the years. Also cool to see how many people you have inspired along the way.
Just slap a hi-pass filter at about 80hz on the mic in the main shot and that should take care of most of the low frequency hum of the overhead HVAC unit. I mostly heard it out of my subwoofer, so I bet 80hz and below are the offending frequencies. Keep up the good work on the new space! The challenges are what make it fun.

lav mic.
Sound blanket does not allow the voice to bounce back into the room and the mic is close to the mouth
It’s called post production.
Few things; background music, sound blanket, boom as close as possible, noise - reverb reduction in post.
Slick love that you Showcased that it’s not about all the glam. Love that you guys get inspired by the community as much as space.
Peter Mckinnon is the kind of guy you want to grab beers with and just talk photography and content creating.
