- "A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER" FROM THE AGORA BALLROOM IN CLEVELAND, OHIO AUGUST 23 1978. THIS IS THE VIDEO FOR THE AUDIO THAT'S ON THE "BACK TO THE BARS" LP.
Grown man here, tear up every time o hear this song. It’s so beautiful.
Todd Rundgren's songs are almost like a religious experience for me. This is my #1 favorite song of all time.
me too.
Right On
Amen sister! Looooooove Todd forever!
Martha Stout Masterpiece.
Friend me please!
nothing takes me back faster than the sound of Todd's voice
he's a musical genius, no one can take that away from him - and his lyrics are beyond words - a master artist
so so true
One of Todd’s most gorgeous perfect pop song. Too bad it doesn’t get the recognition that Hello It’s Me or Can’t We Still Be Friends gets but I always adored this song.
From Runt to today, hands down the most talented musician of our time. Period.
THIS is why it was so wonderful growing up in Cleveland in the late '70's! Cannot tell you how many fabulous concerts we saw at the Agora-- such a big part of the history of rock!
loved the Agora in the old days - so many great groups!
We had an Agora in Toledo...saw shows 73 thru 77
I graduated from high school in the late 70s and it's worth being older now to have lived through the music we grew up with.
CLEVELAND ROCKS THAT'S HOW WE ROLL!!!!! 😊 THE AGORA BALL ROOM WAS THE SHITTS!!!!!! THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME UNFORTUNATELY 😢😢😢NOT SO MUCH!!!!!!😢😢😢
Yep Cleveland and the Agora were the proving ground for so many great bands that went on to well deserved fame
I totally "get it"! This was the song that hooked me hard. The first time I saw him, he still had tri-colored hair & had a 7 piece utopia band!
He can still move me to tears. Timeless talent, wizard of a songwriter. Gorgeous voice makes my knees weak.
He has a talent to touch our hearts.
Makes my knees weak as well....gorgeous voice gorgeous face....sigh...
Still the best and always will be
Todd should be in Rock N Roll hall of fame he is ultra talented and what a brain this man has!!!! Love him!
He puts so much feeling into each song
Live a t the Cleveland Agora.1978. Beautiful love song. The best love song writer ever
This was one of Todd's many bests. Released as single in the Spring of '74 I was a junior in HS. Should've charted Top 10. This song and "Real Man" make me stop and think about my own personal being. Just 2 of many greats this musical genius has created.
this song is a masterpiece after all these years why haven't you (Todd ) been inducted into the American Hall of Fame I wonder dave
The dayz and the years will go by,but this song will be a masterpiece forever.
it really and truely, doesnt get better than this
The ultimate love song all of us can relate to . . . the love that could have been and never was. But we still have the dream.

"You're so far away and so long ago, but my dream goes on forever, and how much I loved you you'll never know, 'til you join me within my dream..." - Such an extreme and powerful song. Means so much.
I was there thanks for the memory... his voice takes me away to some magical place ;
this goes out to my long lost love Bruce; R.I.P how much I love you you'll never know till you join me within my dream.
♡♡♡
@@francesbreedlove3390 AMAZING TODD
my dream is to see my son again. this is Todd at his best. so glad someone videotaped recording of Back to the Bars
Bless you.
The year was 1980... I just fell in love with the first dance with Benny Mardones "Into the Night" I had the time of my life. We both did.
Then life happened and it's just all far away now. I still love him.
A millon old soldiers will fade away
But a dream goes on forever
I'm left standing here, I've got nothing to say
All is silent within my dream
A thousand true loves will live and die
But a dream lives on forever
The days and the years will go streaking by
But the time has stopped in my dream
We all have our everyday hopes and fears
And you'll find no exception in me
But that doesn't get me through a sea of tears
Over life's biggest tragedy
You're so long ago and so far away
But my dream lives on forever
I guess I believe that I'll see you one day
For without it there is no dream
You're so far away and so long ago
But my dream goes on forever
And how much I loved you you'll never know
'Til you join me within my dream
How much I loved you you'll never know
'Til you join me within my dream
Hauntingly beautiful.
One of the best songs he ever wrote.
He”s phenomenal and ahead of his time. Convincing me to live always ❤
I can relate to this song in a most unusual way. Earlier this year I met the woman of my dreams and we dated for four months - the best four months of my life! Awhile after divorcing her first husband she met the man of her dreams. They married and sadly after about seven years of a wonderful marriage fulfilling many hopes and dreams with more on their horizon, her second husband passed away suddenly. I met her about a year and a half after losing her husband and the first time I spoke to her on the phone she sounded so much better than all the other ladies I had met and dated after my divorce. I was completely blown away and when we met for the first time we were an instant hit! What an absolute sweetheart!! Well, I guess all good things come to an end - a very sad end for me. After much reflection on the second anniversary of her husband’s passing she concluded that we were not in the same place in life. She was ready to fulfill those remaining hopes and dreams she had had with her now deceased husband. She broke up with me. I was stunned and heartbroken, but realized that she was right about me and her not being compatible at this point in our lives. I also came to the realization that she missed him more than I could imagine. I pray every day to her deceased husband in Heaven asking him to bring her back to me so I can take care of her until she sees him again. So I dedicate this song to her as sad as I think she might find it.
sorry but I know exactly how she feels because I too have lost my soulmate 15 years ago and I still miss him indefinately
I love Todd's music...it never dies it lives on and on.
Fan For Life....JoAnn
He writes from the heart, a beautiful soul 💖
TODD IS GOD!!!
HUMILITY, SHYNESS & FINESSE...
THE EPITOME OF CHARM AND TALENT 💔
👍🏽
One of my favorite Todd Rundgren songs. Today it means more to me than it ever has. "I guess that I'll see you one day..for out it there is no dream." "How much I loved you, you'll ever know till you join me in my dream."
I weep at how amazing Todd Rundgren is.
takes me back...I can literally feel it! wow
so talented, so soulful, and so underrated !
So true!! ❤️
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and playing in my hometown. Wish I could have been there to see this. Todd is a great musician. Just love his music!!!!
I love you Todd forever
Your outragiously beautiful compositions, your musicianship, your incredible voice. Your physical appearance from head to toe..truly unique in every way!!!!
I guess I believe that I'll see you one day
For without it there is no dream
Some dreams stay alive forever...
my dream lives on forever--my husband died in 2018--that i would see him one day ....
one of the greatest pop songs, my fave version of it right here
Todd and his music touch peoples lives in many ways. its amazing how many memories just come rushing in and suddenly you find yourself back in time. I don't think any artist has ever touched my heart and mind the way he has. I lose myself. best part is that it never changes. its everytime I hear "Dream" or Parallel Lines. they never cease to take me back and also think of my infatuation with Todd in those days. He plays in OKC in August 2017! Can't wait. love you Todd
Hey Jan, it is so awesome to see Todd perform. I was in love with him since high school, many years ago. The fact that he is still so relevant and beloved by many speaks volumes.
Always will be about a serious love... with a friend... also a Todd fan. SIGH!!!
Haven't been to the Agora since 1975. Who better to see than Todd Rundgren.
This is my favorite song of all time
I am obsessed with this song. Just amazing and beautiful. Todd’s little shy smile and bow and the end…my heart.🥰☺️🤗
Can't get enough of Todd 😀😀💓
Im from willoughby,, I was there with one of my best friends ..it was like 6$ to get in if I remember...what a show
i'm from Kirtland - and yes, it was $6 bucks to get in... great times - back in the day!!!
And I was listening to this on the radio in Willowick.@@ohiohoney
Todd is & will always be a musical genius. Wow, wish I would have grown up in Cleveland, to see these amazing performances at the great Agora Ballroom would have been a dream come true. Todd, your music will live on forever 3 We love you
I grew up in Cleveland and was around in 1978. Springsteen played the live Agora show that August as well. WMMS and Cleveland will live in my memory.
One of the best singer-songwriters ever, so happy to have heard him. - Sue Akins
When i hear this i think of the love of my life. She is gone. But i know i will see her again on the other side. A dream does go on forever. Love you Pauline Salter. Peace n smoke
BEAUTIFUL SONG.........GORGEOUS MAN!!!!!!!
Probably my all-time favorite TR melody!
FUN FACT: In Sophia Coppola's tragic film: "The Virgin Suicides" there's a 1970's teenage basement party scene. 'A Dream Goes On Forever" is perfectly cast as the song that plays on the record player at that time.
The movie stars: Kirsten Dunst, Kathleen Turner and James Woods.
A wizard, a true star! Happy birthday Todd!😊✌
Takes me way back, so beautiful.
LOVELOVELOVE this....it always makes me cry...
Awesome Voice N Beautiful Smile ❤ Todd Rundgren
This is my favorite Todd song/video. Most beautiful song I've ever heard.
I was there - both shows - was a bouncer - my favorite concert there!
He was so beautiful....still is. Love his voice so much and it's improved with age.
At The Great Agora Ballroom in Downtown Cleveland Ohio which was a phenomenal venue before it was closed. Many great artisits and memories. I went there 3-4times a week. Oh the memories
Although was never a big TODD fan, this is without a doubt my favourite LIVE piano song performance of all time! Totally Brilliant Instrument and Vocals! Saw him in Chicago at a small theatre with UTOPIA in the late 70's on a NYE show that was delayed by 1 day due to a snowstorm, but dont think he did this one. He was still great!!
This one song completely hits my soul. I love your being so much, Todd. You showed me how beautiful men can be.🔥
Hello it’s Me was only the introduction of this Creative Genius and he’s still Jammin ❤ Todd R
Loved it then. Still love it! Love it. Love it. Love it!
This song truly beautiful and yet haunting. They don't make songs like this anymore.
I have to catch my breath. Man that was good
Beautiful
my high school prom song - a shiver and a sigh! LOVE Todd and he has proven that , indeed~A Dream Goes on Forever!
Been there a bunch of time in the 70s and 80s i remember the carpeted floor was like fly paper.from spilled drinks
Great memories back in the day! No other place like it!
A beautiful melody, a little nostalgic and a good feeling. When I heard it for the first time, I remember being shocked that this kind of song would not come to mind and that it was a world unique to him. It's my favorite song. And this live version is also too nice to make me cry.
Oh man, Lisa Hall, Lisa Meyer, Caryn Collie, Parkside Junior High school, in the basement of a Cleveland house watching him live on t.v.! Love you guys.
I was there...magical
me too
Thanks for perfection..."we all have our everyday days hopes & fears & you'll find no exception in me"...genius
About lost love...a small set of instructins on how to survive it, most of us 50+ need this,
you spoke it at 20 something, I heard you. thx.
The MC at the end of the video is Denny Sanders. The show was simulcast on WMMS in Cleveland. I listened to this on the radio live. Can you imagine that today? Today is March 12, 2022, by the way. This kind of music, played live and recorded and sold just the way it happened. This is for savoring, for splashing it back and forth between your ears. Yeah.
Todd is the real music maker love his music 100%
Todd, Your Are The Best and your music is perfection.....I can listen to you all day and night....
fcuking genius + beautiful song ❤️❤️❤️
"...how much I love you, you'll never know, till you join me within my dream"

All the birds are chirping Harmony!
短く美しい切ない歌詞はいつまでもいつまでも何度でも何度でも心を打ち続ける。トッドの存在は愛そのものだ
Absolutely one of my favorite poems.Love ya Todd.❤
Look at this gorgeous man...first fell in love with him and his unsurpassed genius talent in '78. I cannot EVER get enough of his music even 30+yrs. on. He is so very cool, yet proves himself to be humble. A 'REAL MAN", indeed. I had the distinct pleasure of seeing him in 1979 in San Fran while In the Air Force stationed in Merced, Ca. And then I met my beautiful late husband! Todd himself summed up how I know him to forever be..A WIZARD, A TRUE STAR!
Todd Rocks !! Cleveland Rocks!! Come Back Todd we miss New Years Eve With Ya !!
Just oozes talent and beauty
I will always LOVE this song ♥♥♥
Love this song!
Such powerful, beautiful lyrics - and such a powerful, beautiful voice to back them up. :))

Been trying to find this video. This is one of my favorite songs, plus I discovered I am in this video at the very end. Its such a funny little clip in time. I love Todd and I think his voice is so crystal clear and such a talented lyricist too.
How much I loved you, Todd, you'll never know...Hendrickson Road House.
What an incredible show. The old Cleveland Agora was 2000 solid. I was 2nd row sitting Indian style.
heartbreaking....those gr8 days......gone....but....
Ah, the *real* Agora. Pull up a floor and listen to the superstars for 2.50 cover.
Bunne Rabb yep the original with the poles in the way hahaha and btw that's Denny Sanders from WMMS doing the v/o at the end 'cause this was originally broadcast on local tv. Back when 'MMS was at the top of their game..
Thank you so much for posting this video! Back to the Bars is one of my all time favorite albums, and I've adored Todd forever!
Perfection! BTTB made me fall in love with Todd and it's still going strong 30 years later :)
Never saw this video, but been listening to Back to the Bars since it was released in '78. Great version of this song, thanks for sharing!
beautiful
I lucked into seeing this brilliant man at the U. of Texas in the 70’s at Bass Hall. I was giving a ticket by a friend who said “I’ve never heard of this guy but you go and tell me what you think.” Well, I saw him a few days later and told him “Anytime you have tickets for someone you don’t know, call me.” Two weeks later he gave me tickets to see Frank Zappa.
Love this song! Todd is the best -- so underrated!
TR: what a musician...….
A song of a life
