- On this Independence Day I am out pondering the installation of signals on our railroad and how they will function to help control train movements while adding a bit of operational interest.

Wish you were closer--- i volunteer at a 2ft guage park railroad---we have loops at both ends--- im an engineer someone else does track work--- on our south loop our volunteer supervisor got our signals working---north loops will be next year--- railroad work has been--- hopefully soon id like to visit your railroad---- i just recently found out about yours surfing the net--- im impressed -- ive told local railfans and a couple fellow engineers about your railroad--- your videos are well done--- keep up youe amazing work
Awesome! Yes a cantilever signal of the appropriate size would sure look cool up there. Your group of dedicated enthusiasts are to be commended for the excellent work you're all doing. It looks so neat and professional.
Cheers, from Abbotsford, B.C. and Happy Independence Day, America!
I am SO impressed. Fantastic expose this episode.
Love how things are coming along! It's really going to look fantastic when all the signals are in and working! Keep the updates coming!
Re: Introduction about working on the railroad. You have an exceptional work ethic.
With the amount of time you spend at that little railroad, I hope you give your wife roses on a regular and frequent basis.
It's a great little running museum.
Very impressive how far things have come along from the time a video popped up in my feed of some guys laying some narrow gauge track up a short hill and talking about all these grand plans. Assuming since you are way outside former CGW territory and the last time I actually saw a former CGW switchstand in place was 42 years ago and those tracks are long bike paths I'm going to assume either former Nickle Plate or NYC heritage to those switchstands.
You could also use the siding/double track for opportunities for meets whenever 57 or 60 is running. Have 58 with a passenger train and 57 or 60 with a freight train and meet them
I hate to ask a random question but, what happened to the trucks that were on the CSX box car (or engine house rather)?? Also, I love how your railroad is growing bigger and trackage is lenghtening more and more. Was never into narrow guage railroads (more of a standard guage guy myself) but once your channel came along, I found it more interesting and a great way of practice for railway rules, knowledge, and operating procedures for bigger railroads.
too bad you dont have a stream to use a Ram pump to fill up totes or the tank car so you don't have to worried about filling it all the time, keep up the good work Rick i enjoy the hard work your doing to keep a peace of history alive and breathing.
Thank you for sharing. The east end of the yard in Leavittsburg still has the signals standing, which I believe has what you're looking for. Not sure who owns the propriety, maybe Ohio Central?
Ohio Central has quite a few out of service signals and components in the Youngstown area. Whether they may be available is unknown.
The place is looking awesome Rick. Those signals look great in that silver paint. How many acres do you have there? Happy 4th 🇺🇸
Great video Rick. I thought your office was going in the Erie Caboose?
Awesome progress rick! Hopefully you got enough water there for the event,
I would love to have a job like that. My dream job that I never found lol
Nice ideas with the signals. Have you considered having any semaphore signals?
Also I really enjoy watching your videos! Thanks for making them :)
It would be nice to have at least one, but they are hard to come by and rather expensive to purchase.
Nowadays you can find only the blades and not the mechanisms nor the foundation / junction box.
If you do then they're likely owned by a railroad or very rusty with out anything then its junction box and foundation.
woohoo today I get to go to the volunteer railroad in my area for a huge steam locomotive barbecue and don't forget fireworks too you drop the fireworks inside the smoke box and then we run
Contact the Delaware-Lackawanna, they sure have a bunch of abandoned signals.
Thanks, Rick!
Make sure to out in a relais to make all opposite direction signals (to the direction the train is traveling in) to show red.
Happy 4th of July
!!
Interesting! Nice work
I have a question how far do you plan on extending the railroad?
Who knows. There is a lot of vacant property behind us but who knows if we can acquire any of it.
@@YoungstownSteelHeritage well at least the passengers get a longer ride.
Also don't forget about all of the relay logic.
That will be cool. Should not be difficult at all to make those signals do what you want if you can find what your looking for. Were you able to film what we talked about a couple weeks ago if your still interested? :)
I spent all day Wednesday working on it and by the end of the day had the turnout working off a momentary pushbutton. It now cycles through and shuts itself off at the end of the throw. Even set it up so that when you it is inthe middle of its stroke, pushing the other button does nothing. Once I started thinking it through and figured out how to set up latching circuits it was pretty straightforward to wire.
Tomorrow I will start thinking about the signal wiring. It would be nice to have the dwarf signal working by the weekend but I'm not holding my breath!
@@YoungstownSteelHeritage Awesome news! :) Good job! So that Relay idea won't be needed! That is cool
😎 , why dont you put a remote control on that switch ? easy enough to do
Be careful with going too deep with signaling I would advise against any sort of automatic/block signaling because local regs may shut you down completely unless it is completely functional at all times.
