Seamus Mulligan R.I.P. gave me that photo of Mickey and Ringo -11:02- sometime in the mid - late 70s. It was taken downstairs in The Cellar. As far as I remember, the downstairs area opened in 1974.
Jesus! That set that starts at 13:30 is fckn' fantastic!...and that Banish Misfortune is magical. Any more of these tapes kickin' around? Would love to hear 'em....Thanks for this one.
I see Rosemary McSweeney has added more to the description of the tunes played at Cullens on the Session. She correctly pointed out that the first reel is St. Anne`s reel, the O Carolan type piece was, in fact, Planxty Irwin, not Si Beag Si Mor...again, she is correct. Also Banish Misfortune is in there and Morrison`s jig. The excellent flute player, unnamed, was probably Charlie Brown. The tape came via Mick Morris and the late Sonny Kiernan Roscommon. John Finn put it on youtube. Do I hear the Maid Behind the Bar in there as well as Wind that Shakes the Barley reels? Something new everytime you hear it.
All i can say is May God bless these men with a good life.
Proud nephew. Love you uncle mick x Jack
