Wyatt Earp telling Ike Clanton " the fighting has commenced get to fighting or get away" is also historically correct.

It's also what exonerated them in the commencing trial. They said they'd gone down there to disarm them and the one man who surrendered was let go.

All of them should have gotten an Oscar, & movie of the year!!!
Tombstone stands up as one of if not the most entertaining, satisfying and cinematically gorgeous westerns ever made.
Considering the director had no clue what he was doing and Kurt Russell became the defacto director and essentially rewrote and reshot nearly the whole thing, it makes the films quality that much more impressive and makes me think Kurt Russell could have been an incredible director if he wanted to.
when i found out how poorly this project started with the goofball director and how kurt russell turned it around and ended up basically directing a classic, my mind was blown. i don't typically gravitate toward westerns, but this is one of my favorite movies bar none.
@sNs-jb5ss Let me say here that in ur statement about Russell directing the movie, ur " somewhat " correct. In an interview posted just this past January, Michael Biehn , ( who deserved his own personal nod , for BSA Oscar , IMHO , ofc..) who we all know well , as portraying Johnny Ringo in the film when asked , stated that Kurt Russell DID NOT in fact direct the movie..at least, not as a whole and as we know it. According to him , the movie was directed more " by committee " , than any one person. I know the movie itself has George Cosmatos , and Kevin Jarre credited with directors. But with that said, I'm not sure if the studio was obligated to list them as that by contractual agreement ( circumstances ) or simply, to " save face " if you will. Either way, we do know in fact that Russell DID INDEED do at the very least, SOME DIRECTING...to what extent, I simply don't possibly know. He also as you stated earlier, DID INDEED AGAIN, rewrite ( again ) SOME SCRIPTS, as well as SOME SCENES as well...but I'll say once again, to what extent, I simply am not privy to that knowledge or information..I'll say this in closing. I've been a " Western Buff " since I was old enough to hold up a Red Rider ( or a Daisy... for us poor folks, they were cheaper ) BB gun...so roughly 60+ years...( yeah I know..don't remind me lol ) I've watched virtually every western that has EVER been aired on T.V. Everything from Have Gun will Travel..to Days to Wells Fargo...to Sugarfoot..lol. Really guys, you'd really be hard pressed to name a western show , that I haven't seen at one time or another. Like how Clint Eastwood use to play Rowdy Yates on the western, " Rawhide " . Its how he got his start in the movies. And how his trail boss on the show ( funny part here..I can't remember his name on the show ) in real life, the man's name was Eric Fleming..think that's how you spell his last name... but anyway, they were filming a scene for the show , and in the scene , he ( Fleming ) was " driving " a wagon of supplies ( and it may have had someone with him , up in the front ) across a river, that was obviously to dangerous for a woman ( back then, mind you 😉 ). And before they even got started good, the wagon turned over, pinning Fleming underneath it ( think they said, the wagon wheel ?? ) , and before others could get it off him , he drowned... I remember that , just like it was yesterday. Wasn't long before they took it off the air.. I got WAY OFF MY ORIGINAL POINT, but I wanted to say that regardless of who directed " Tombstone " , and who gets , wants , needs , deserves , desires or even lacks the credit for it , it's still a well made and put together western. It's one of my all time fav's. Over the last 30 plus years of westerns, I rank it up there with my favorites.. " Unforgiven "..." Open Range " ..." Hostiles " ..." Dances with Wolves " . Also, let me apologize for this being so long..I didn't set out to write the answer to " War and Peace " ...so again, my most humble apologies 🙏. Many blessings to you 🙏 all, and hagd to everyone 🙏...tc and stay safe..🙂🙂

Kilmer is flawless in this movie but when Russell says, “Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.” That my friends is the greatest line in the movie, and it’s not even from Doc!

"I got two guns, one for the each of ya"
Doc wanted to die in a gunfight. Not withering away in a hospital. He just couldn't find anyone who was good enough to do the job. That's why he shot Johnny Ringo through the temporal lobe and holsters his gun instead of finishing him off. He wanted to give Johnny a chance to kill him and keeps saying c'mon Johnny and is ultimately disappointed that Ringo can't do it. That's why he tells him that he's no daisy at all.
I'm a little slow what does that mean when he says that your no daisy at all?
@@rainmanj9978 because that's what he says at the ok corral when he says your a daisy if you do... meaning killing him... because he wanted to die in a gunfight with his boots on not in a hospital with them off which he does end up doing
@@rainmanj9978Back in the Victorian times, flowers had traits and a daisy was thought to be a symbol of purity. So to use the term daisy to refer to someone would be to say they are flawless or exemplary. So when Doc says to Ringo, "You're no daisy at all" he means he wasn't the better gunfighter.

yeah, a lot of folks forget that this incident happened toward the end of the wild west era, and a lot of the surviving players were around long enough to see movies made about them. Doc's Girlfriend, Big Nose Kate lived til 1940 and died at age 98.
the Earps moved to california after this. silent western movie stars Tom Mix and William S Hart were two of Wyatt earps pallbearers at his funeral. Virgil Earp became a lawman again in a town in california despite his injury, and Wyatt and Virgil's Nephew, Virgil Edwin Earp, was on an episode of "What's my Line?" talking about his uncles and what being a lawman was like back then(Edwin followed in the family business and was a retired lawman as well).

Amazing cast. And an amazing telling of this story. The part where Wyatt walks into gunfire at the river was true also. Walked right into a hail of bullets and killed
Idk, my take on that saying, is Doc watched his Mother die of Turberculosis & the fact that he was also dying of the same ailment, & was scared of dying that way. He would have considered it a favor if someone would kill him. Like when Ringo said "I'll put you outta your misery", he new that Doc was sick & dying. BUT, it would have to be "a daisy" to do it. Meaning it would take a better man to kill him.

The most documented and investigated case of an arrest going horribly wrong. The Gunfight is taught in police academys as the exact wrong way to execute an arrest.
Sounds like they need to reform the criteria, there are a lot worse cops than this.
No. No, it is not.
Well hang on here. Several things:
1. I thought they were going to disarm them, not necessarily arrest them. Best case scenario was the cowboys would reluctantly comply.
2. It was a VERY wild, untamed, boom town in a very wild, untamed West.
3. The state of lawfulness was inherently precarious. The lawlessness was even politically protected, such as with Sheriff Behan and political interests associated with the cowboys
4. The cowboys, in particular, were dangerous outlaws, even on a systemic level.
5. The murderous cowboys had boasted all over town that they were going to kill the Earps.
6. There had been a lawful ban on carrying guns within the town due to the gun violence.
7. Yes, carrying guns was just a misdemeanor, but with the very real active threat on their lives, it makes sense to consider confronting the threat to enforce the law. Otherwise they were easy targets. Yes its arguable that it was unwise but it is also arguable that it was a necessary evil given the circumstances.
8. "Frontier justice" was a very real necessity in such circumstances. Even the judge knew this, and that's why in response to Earps frustration that the cowboys were getting off on made up alibis by cowboys sympathizers and technicalities, the judge said it would be best for Earp to "just leave them in the bush". In other words, kill them out in the bush and bury them with no witnesses.

The man that Kilmer says "you're a daisy if you do" is actually a descendant of Wyatt Earp!
That is one of my favorite lines by Doc.
God I love Doc
Awesome movie!! The actors nailed it big !! Especially Val Kilmer!!
This movie was full of great lines
The phrase " im your huckberry, was actually im your huckle bearer back then. Its to say, "if you cross me, ill be carring your casket" a hucke bearer was the name for Paul bearer back then. Val kilmer told about it in his book. When oeople on the set, thought he was saying huckleberry, he decided to run with it.
That makes a good story, unfortunately it is a false one.
For a couple of reasons: what is, the script said huckleberry. It never said anything but huckleberry. The script writer took that phrase said by Doc to Ringo right out of a book from the 1920s.
So he absolutely said I'm your huckleberry. That much cannot even be argued otherwise. Val Kilmer himself has even verified that is what he said and he did not say bearer.
And the reason he could not have possibly said Bearer is, that term did not even exist at the time of the movie's filming. It was made up on the Internet years later. It is completely, 100% and internet fabrication.

I agree!🤣🤣not the best acting
This is a great movie filled with great actors wow I miss movies like this
He’s fast n makes it much funnier 😂
the stress was too much for him to bear
He should have gotten a academy award for his Val’s part as Doc !!
Yes, I did know that line was historically true because I read a book I’m dark holiday from Bob Bose Bell😊 And if I’m not mistaken, that line directly means you’re better than me or you’ve bested me❤ Thank you for posting that nobody believe me😂
