Great video - slide show ;) - I owned a ‘79 that I bought in 1982 at an auction. Black on black with soft top and doors. I so regret selling. What a fun vehicle that was! Oh the stories I could tell!

Thanks John and team for this! Love it! Makes me wish I was a young man in the late 70's instead of the mid 00's! Living that dream now in my 79' SSII.

OMG! Thanks for stirring up some great memories! See I owned a couple Scout II’s back in the 70’s. The first was a plain Jane harvest wheat yellow with maroon interior bench seat. AM radio, single speed transfer case, 258 AMC 6cyl, 727 automatic with what I found out was lowly 3:08 gears. So nothing special but fun. I did finally get tired of having to ask my friends to get out an push in deep beach sand, even after I added 10.50/70-15 tires, due to the lack of power, all it would do is bog down an never spin a tire! So I traded in on a new 78Scout II TERRA, I wanted an SS II, but wanted a hard too for the rough winters we had. So I specially ordered a Select Edition TERRA truck in canyon black, with the gold off road wheels and matching gold side stripes from side marker to side marker that was part of the Select Edition Package, along with dark brown pillow top bucket seats with arm rests an matching dash cover, with matching padded door panels with wood grain trim, like on the dashboard, plus machined aluminum around the full gauges. But best of all was the removable white fiberglass hard top cab roof, that went about a foot past the seats for storage behind the seats, where I stashed a big bean bag between the buckets, so my girl could sit close! But this time I made sure I had POWER! With a 345/4 brl, V8,dual exhaust, HD 2 speed transfer case, HD 727 automatic driving a Dana 44 front an optional Dana 60 semi floating rear with 3:51 Trac Loc. That truck was a beast on the beach! Where I had it up to 80 mph! Plus I was able to tow a friends boat on vacation up to the mountains of New Hampshire, that was a26’ inboard ski boat, that boat an trailer weighed 7,800 lbs., with ease! Man I wish I had that truck today! The only downsides was gas mileage at 10-14 and how fast those vehicles rusted/rotted! I was forced to sell mine in 18 months with 56,000 trouble free miles, but a good friend who I forwarded this great video to, had a 78, Scout II SS II! In red with a 304,4speed! That was a great running trouble free platform, but in only 8 years thats exactly what was left after the tailgate rotted off, the rear floor and quarter panels were loose an shaking, with the windshield frame finally letting go! He ended up using the platform/chassis he built a 65 Chevy II body onto it, that ended up being a great daily driver for him, till his first child was born and the wife needed a new Minivan!
