    I'm Sicilian. We do not eat pasta everyday. We eat a lot of fish, fruits and veggies. We also drink olive oil by the gallons.

      LOL, yes, I suppose that is right. I just found it amusing as this is one of the stereotypes I love in my dear friend from Sicily.

      True! But I think different cultures have different stereotypes for Italians. My two friends are Australians so I guess that didn't strike them! But it's true, we use our hands a lot!

    My grandparents came to America about 100 years ago. They brought all these customs with them. My son lived home until he was 26, rent-free. The current generation however has more or less lost most Italian traditions since they married non-italians, and they reject most of the traditional customs. Makes me very sad.

    About the hair thing. It's called the 'hair slide' when you start losing it from the top of your head, it starts to grow and it looks like it is sliding down your back. I'm 52 (in a few days) and I have hair all over. I'm sure that's from my father's side (Sicilian Parents and Grand Parents). I loved my 4'10" grandmother, but she had a mustache I was jealous of.

    As an Italian-Australian (Perth) I can say that the Italians here in Australia, generally, are like the Italians post--WW2 from the 1950s....Italians in Italy now are way different... The older Italians that came out here 5-60 years ago are conservative, family-oriented, religious...Italians in Italy now are more liberal, irreligious (esp the young ones) and are covered in tatts and piercings...it may as well be the US or UK aside from the language...just my opinion

    why do Italians eat sweets as breakfast? like cornetto you mentioned in the video? Do people eat any salty food for breakfast?

    • @italymadeeasy
      @italymadeeasy  8 лет назад +6

      I don't know why we eat sweet, but that's what we do!! If we have breakout out (like many Italians do, especially those who work during the day) then it is normal to have a croissant (un cornetto) or other pastry (una pasta) with a cappuccino.
      If we have breakfast at home, then we'd have cookies (biscotti), commercial pastry (una merendina) or a slice of home made cake (ciambellone).

      In the morning, we mammals, better known as humans are deprived of glucose. Sugar replenishes out low 'blood sugar levels' after sleep. One major reasons Western people drink coffee with sugar, it's an energy source.

    Ciao Manu: ti dico la mia così posso confermare quello che dici ;)
    1) Sulla pasta: vero, anche se riguarda soprattutto le persone che hanno un tipo di lavoro che consente loro di tornare a casa per ora di pranzo o comunque che non hanno una giornata lavorativa che copre tutto il giorno. Chi lavora in ufficio non ha sempre tempo per una pasta...e alla sera ci rinuncia perché è pesante. Diciamo che è un "must" soprattutto il weekend ;)
    2) Sul motorino: sì, tanti fanno il famoso "patentino" a 14 anni per cominciare a guidare il motorino, ma è una questione di status (un po' come quando si compra una macchina grande... XD). Diventa una necessità quando abiti in città, ma in campagna è più usata l'auto ;)
    3) Sul fatto di essere pelosi: dipende dalle persone. Se penso a un uomo peloso me lo immagino anche grosso, puzzolente e un po' volgare, tipo Er Monnezza...che però è proprio uno stereotipo LOL Sulle donne: credo che lo stereotipo sia falso proprio per questa cura maniacale dell'aspetto fisico.
    4) Sulla moda: io non rispecchio lo stereotipo...ma è il motivo per cui non sono in Italia, perché so che viene percepito come importante LOL
    5) Sul fatto di essere ritardatari: da me al nord viene visto male, ma 5-10 minuti sono tollerabili ;)
    6) Sul fatto di essere un po' provoloni, se non proprio squallidi, nell'approcciarsi all'altro sesso: l'ho sempre trovato fastidioso, così come l'onnipresenza del "viva la foca" (XD) in ogni conversazione fra soli uomini :S Quindi devo confermare.
    7) La religiosità è tipica della campagna e dei paesi piccoli in generale: più vai in città grandi, meno la gente è legata (se non proprio ossessionata) dalla religione. Il problema è l'influenza indiretta della religione sulla mentalità della gente: pur non essendo cattolica, molta gente ragiona come tale sulle questioni etiche :S

    We have all been on a Vespa, that's for sure alright! I really miss my old Vespa 50 from when I was a teen... I used to call it "Two-face" since I've had an incident (I was almost hit by a car and threw my self and the Vespa the other way with predictable results), but once I straighten the metal and sandblasted it, I didn't have the money for the paint, so it was white from one side and lucid metal from the other... Good times! Simplier times!!!

    All stereotypes are quite funny. I'm canadian apparently we all live in igloos and poor maple syrup on everything. Well hockey and beer is true half of it is quite funny. Then italians have many incorrect stereotypes growing up around these people i know that 1)not all look the same or look like Mario population 140 million will have some differences. Some of the stereotypes like coffee lovers fit.

    Hi Manu,
    Another stereotype I would like to know about is italian romantism! I am a female, and in my case, I'm asking about the Italian male.
    I'm also America. All my life, I've ALWAYS wanted to speak Italian! I really do, heartfully feel that my soul is Italian! I don't know why but I do, I guess it's because I love to read, and I guess, EVERYTHING that I've read and seen about Italian culture just made me love it! I recognized early on that Italians exude class and high quality style! Everything about the culture is passion and class! I love that Italians live their passion! They treat themselves EXTREMELY well! I could go on forever, but I won't...❤️
    There are tons of America women who think as I do, that Italian men are extremely romantic bcuz whatever they do, they do it with great passion and emotion! Like an Italian HERCULES or something 🤔!! And when they speak that language... man, it's like, CHA CHING!🤯🤯🤯 Poetry in motion!!!!! It's like... MAMMA MIA! EXTREME SUPREME!!!!! 👍👍👍👍❤️🥳👍 DO U KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!! 🥰🥰🥰👍
    But anyway... your thoughts on that stereotype please??? GRAZIE!!
    I know I'm being overly dramatic, but I'm a writer, that's just how we do it!😁

    • @italymadeeasy
      @italymadeeasy  4 года назад +1

      Well, I'm not sure that all italian men are so romantic!😂 As everywhere, there are men who are very romantic, who are able to talk like poets and make women feel like queens... and men who are not able to be romantic! 😜

      we italians eat pasta a lot of time during the week, pizza usually once in a month.
      mafia or crime organizations are located in the south and no, i go every summer in south italy and i never seen a mafia man in my life.
      italians gesticolate a lot mainly old people from the south or rome, in north italy not so much.
      usually italian stereotypes refers on south italians.
