P-51B Mustang Berlin Express loses canopy during display

P-51B Mustang 'Berlin Express' appeared on Saturday after an epic Transatlantic flight. Unfortunately, it only made a very brief - but spectacular - appearance as the 'Malcolm Hood' canopy disintegrated during the fast run-in for a pull-up into a loop.
The emergency was well handled by the pilot and the aircraft landed safely. You can't actually see the canopy go on the video as it shattered into many small pieces, but you can see the after effects!
Such a shame to fly all the way from Texas and not get to do proper display. Was due to appear in the Heritage Flight at RIAT. Currently languishing in hangar 2 with a cover over the canopy.
I wonder if it will be flying home once repaired, or going by sea?
I’d imagine shipped in a container. Was at Duxford today and it seems to have had the tail removed. Miss Velma has had the whole wing section removed but it’s tricky to get any real view of it.
Thanks for the update Paul. A good forced landing for Miss Velma - 'If you can walk away from it ...etc' but quite a lot of damage to the starboard wing.
I'm not sure but I think it was still a Duxford a couple months ago... There were a couple Mustangs in hangar two that I didn't recognize, and I'm pretty sure one was a b model.
Moral of the story - Do not buy your Malcolm hoods at Target
oh god i was there when it happened. that shattered glass will cut a couple of fingers.

Sad p-51 berlin express didn't fly 😢
She flew on the Saturday when this happened, but other than one one pass, we didn't see much of her.
Saw her on Tuesday, vertical stabilizer is still off.
