  • Part 2 of an annual service on a 50hp 2014 Yamaha Four Stroke outboard motor. How to replace the fuel filter element. This filter had some water in it so you get to see an example of water in gas and how to identify it.
I probably mentioned it in the video, but just in case I didn't: The fuel filter should be replaced every year, we replace them at the beginning of the season.

Something I figured out after a long time and a lot of plier marks:
That weird, circular cavity at the bottom of the fuel cup on the filter accepts the business end of some of my nut drivers. I like to get a nut driver that fits snugly in there and use it as a wrench to turn the cup. I do a lot of routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on Yamaha outboards and I have not regretted this method yet.
I haven't found a tool for these smaller Yamaha fuel filters. Thought they'd have one like the 150-300 hp fuel filter tool, but I think I'm going to have to make something myself...

Thanks for the video. I have the same / similar filter on my F70 . . . I applied some silicone grease on those plastic threads today when I changed the filter. Hope it helps more than hurts, LOL.

I have used silicone grease on the threads in the past, it helps a little on the tight threads, it has never been a problem, other than cleaning them well next time I take it apart.

Hey guys, thanks for the video. It’s very helpful. Do you have any information on the o2 sensors for a 2018 yamaha F40? More specifically, the location and how to clean them?

There was a recall on the fuel twist on connector. Did you get that replaced? What does the new connection look like?

Right beside the oil dip stick, there is a small tube that seems to wrap around. My tube is hanging, and one side does not seem to be plugged in. What is this tube, does this affect my motor starting? How do I plug it back in please?

Hello Michael. If you can email me a photo of this tube tube support@canadawidemarine.com I should be able to identify it and help you out.

day mate do you think a fuel water seperator filter between the tank and the engine would have helped to stop this from happening ,i have always had one on my boats admitedley they were all two strokes .

I don't remember what was happening in this video, but yes, absolutely, I always highly recommend a water separating fuel filter.

I have a big RACOR before mine with a drainable bowl. It’s overkill but cheap insurance.

My F 70 started pouring fuel when I removed the clear, plastic housing. I guess I need to install a in-line shut off switch.

fuel tank was likely pressurized, you will want to check your venting.
