Awesome, awesome race!!!! Hard to tell man. Some races it was the 720s and others looked like the Corvette came hard and around. The BIGGEST reason the Corvette lost----DCT vs.manual shifted(even though the Corvette Racer can shift!!!!) Thank you for making the video. Keep em coming. Congrats to bothcars-beautiful machines.
Maybe not. Some of those autos in those old cars are super inefficient. Fact is we don't know until he runs a car with that set-up. We can theorize all day long.
The car obviously has to be faster/make more power being a manual to over come this huge handicap. How much faster or more powerful? I guess that depends on how good you are with that stick. Either way, no question a DCT is far quicker, but I personally respect someone wanting to row their own gears as it's a lot more fun IMO... but definitely not faster.
They do realize they loose valuable time shifting gears on their own, but the joy of driving a manual car outweighs driving an automatic that will barely pull on a stock automatic 720S lol. They realize that if they had an automatic, and was faster, all the 720S owner would need to do is tune it, and then bye bye Vette, but the sad thing would be you’re now stuck with not only a slower Vette, but also an automatic Vette...😆 In other words, there will always be someone out there faster than you. Knowing that, you might as well get the most joy out of your car while you have it, and having a manual will do that.
@@JacesOwnWorld plenty of modded vettes can beat a modded 720s . @@speedlife301 The 720s could run 8s easy with just a tune and a transmission that allowed them to actually launch. It's really hard to get a decent 60' time in a 720s. They aren't built to launch like those cars built for drag racing. Why we are comparing a scalpel built for a track to a sledgehammer build to go fast in a straight line is beyond me haha.
The third race would have been the best of the three they didn't have to let off so early. It's so obvious how much time is lost shifting manually. Can you imagine the Corvette had a dual clutch setup comparable with the McLaren? See ya.
Power to weight is absolutely important... most modern supercars punch above their weight so to speak from 2 things. Trans and Gearing. Toss in a 3rd factor when running a 720s...a Coefficient of Drag thats damn impressive for its DownForce. Even taking the higher published number of 0.31. That said the C6 Vette is also very slippery and is actually MORE so than a 720S at 0.29 (again depends on which source you find on the Macca) and its within the same weight range where you'd have to assume 145 additional HP to the wheels is going to lay the pipe. I love manuals and will always own one, but Dual Clutches and extra gears do work. Props to both for running and the Vette driver banging some gears. Great video 👍

Like others have stated the Verte needs a auto tranny DCT specially built for his car i mean I can't see it winning confidently without it. No matter how good you think you are you CAN NOT SHIFT FASTER THAN TODAY'S AUTOMATICS!! PERIOD!
The Corvette was pulling but when shifting it was losing a little then pulling a little more. My advice for the Corvette that it needs a built DCT automatic transmission. I wish there is a built DCT automatic transmission for the C6 Corvette like the C8 Corvette.

Very nice 720s. Like your videos. I just sold my 991.2 turbo s and bought Gt3 rs. Love the Rs but missing turbo s acceleration. Thinking about 720 s next year. What’s your opinion about spider version
Hey JD. I’ve never been a fan of spiders due to the compromise in rigidity and some compromise on performance, but the 720 is so fast that it doesn’t even matter, lol. Good luck!
Adding more & more horsepower can help you overcome a top end machinery like a 720s under these types of races, but lack of other elements can make things very unstable and downright dangerous. Nevertheless, it looked pretty even to me...slightly better shifting would have netted more convincing results.
Two things: 1) No doubt that Corvette is faster but as all the others have pointed out the "iron age" manual transmission is not longer a match for a dual clutch or even a good automatic transmission for that matter -- with a slushbox the Corvette would have stayed ahead IMO. 2) the 720S probably makes more than 680 at the wheel? Has that McLaren ever been dyno'ed? Oh, one other thing -- they proved on DragTimes channel (last year?) that a turbo Dodge Viper with 1000 bhp and the stock manual could beat a stock 720S in a legit drag race i.e., not a street pull.
