Thanks Wes, sounds like you got a lot of competition. What a difference a couple hours can make .

Yes sir! Some areas are virtually no competition and others are full of it! Thanks for watching

700 acre South Georgia farm, I planted 10 fall plots
Largest is 2 acres the others range from 1/4 acre to 1/2 acre plots
I usually only plant 2 or 3 plots but this year I wanted to experiment with more food options
I think it’s had a positive effect so far , seems like lots of deer have taken up on my property since these patches have come up

Sounds like you are having some good luck with your experiment, thanks for sharing and for watching

Great video. Seems like you read my mind. Have 7 plots totaling 6 acres on 140 acres in ag country of west Tn. My neighbor holds mature deer every year and he has 4 3-4acre plots on 600 acres. He only has 2-3 acres of corn per plot (also has wheat/oats/brassicas in each plot with the corn) but cuts it a little at a time from October through December and always holds the deer. My plots looked great this year but only have brassicas, clover, and wheat…no corn. I’m thinking I need to plant corn to compete with him this coming season. And maybe go to a couple 3-4 acres plots instead of 7 smaller fields. I also have approximately 8 acres of 4-5 yo clear cuts, 60 acres of CP38E, and 70 or so acres of TSI’d woods so my habitat is pretty good. Thanks again for another informative video. Thoughts?

It is very difficult to compete with corn especially in no baiting areas. I’d rather have corn on my farm, than be the one without it….but that’s just my opinion. Thanks for watching and good luck

Wes, we need to figure out how to grow those size purple top turnips on my farm! I've never been able to grow any larger than a golf ball! Those bad boys were impressive!!

Hahah they were some dandy’s this year! That red clay will be throwing those out in another year or 2! Thanks for for watching

Lots of variables, but I have about 3 acres of clover/chicory, 4 acres of soybeans, 1 acres of brassicas, apple trees galore on about 175 acres. Clover and chicory for early season, and the beans and brassicas for late season. I mostly hunt November gun season and the clover/chicory is usually snow covered before December. If my deer numbers get to big, I plan on growing more acres to sustain them.

That sounds like a great set up, you’ve got them covered all season! And room for expansion! Thanks for watching

126 acres South Central Illinois on a river corridor.
3 acres of plots. 6 plots total but 2 are just clover and wheat. Other 4 are beans, clover and wheat. Our deer pop never gets out of hand and I've still got beans standing.

Can't get enough food in my neck of the woods. The more I plant the more they eat it to the ground. Up to 3 acres food on 40 expanding every year.

That is a blessing and a curse, but great to hear it’s getting eaten! Good luck and thanks for watching

Like you said, there's just too many variables for it to be one across the board answer. There are lots of hunters in the river bottoms in my area with stands and blinds around the edges of 100+ acre crop fields. They do lots of shooting.

No doubt those farm fields are a great place to hunt, it’s one gigantic food plot until late winter. Thanks for watching

The general rule I’ve always heard was 10%. I think there are too many variables to give a definite answer for any given property. Some you may only need a couple hunting plots and some you may need to do 50 acres if you can afford it.

I agree with that! Great way to look at it. Thanks for watching

100%. Too much food is a real problem no matter where you’re hunting. I’m in big AG land in S/W Michigan and we cannot bait here either. Thus, lots of food plots plus the normal AG can make it almost impossible to even hold deer. If you bump them, there gone. Too many other options for them.

It is definitely a challenge we have to face especially in areas where we can produce a ton of food!

I know I do not have too much food on my lease, I just have too many locations. I wish I had a few 2-4 acre plots. All of my plots are 3/4 acre or smaller. Total of like 5 acres on 670 acres.

Yeah I’ve heard that a lot, sometimes the terrain doesn’t let us have as large of plots as we would like. Thanks for watching

    10 percent depending on density

I’ve always been under the impression that you’re property should be 20% food plots, so 20 acres of food on 100 acres of land. Just an option.👍🏼

@DIYfoodplotpro true. I was just trying to figure out an average. If you're trying to attract a lot of deer.
