  • As many of you may recall, this unusual truck made its debut on my RUclips channel back in September of last year. Without further ado, I present you with the rest of the footage of this unique truck. For those unfamiliar with the specifics, what we have here is a Labrie Automizer automated side loader, outfitted with the CoolHand arm. Once upon a time, the CoolHand was Labrie's flagship automated arm, however it has long since been phased out in favor of the very popular RightHand arm. As you can see, the CoolHand arm had it's drawbacks, the most major being that you had to be several feet away from the containers that you were trying to grab, in order to give the arm enough room to fold down. Though it may be a bit cumbersome, complicated, and clumsy, it is a very fascinating arm to watch in action.
I hope you've enjoyed the footage! This will be the last we'll see f this truck, as it has been placed out of service and likely scrapped since the time this was filmed.
As always, I'd like to thank the driver for his friendly and professional service! And of course, I'd like to thank all of you for watching!

I could work on the back of a rear loader that has a good tipper and out haul that arm. If you were on a narrow road you would not have enough room to run this arm. This automated system was obsolete the day it was put to use.

I remember when GreenTeam San Jose used all Cool Hand Co-Collectors starting in 2002. They fascinated me more than any other garbage truck ever had. In 2007-2008, they were joined by Automizer Co-Collectors, likely in response to Garden City Sanitation (which picks up the trash in the southern part of San Jose alongside California Waste Solutions, who pick up recycling using McNeilus Autoreaches; then there's Recology, which serves the unincorporated parts of the county using old Rapid Rails from the Norcal San Jose contract, as well as Automizers, Pythons, and a myriad of MSLs on occassion).
The Cool Hands are gone now, and so are the Automizer Co-Collectors. Co-collection ended in December 2013. Garbage is now done using McNeilus ZRs (which greatly remind me of the Amreps from the Waste Management days), and larger-capacity Automizers do recycling. Both are powered by CNG. I'm not sure where the old Cool Hands went, but towards the end of their lives, they became pretty shaky and worn, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were scrapped. As for the Automizer Co-Collectors, I know they're still used as spares, and, quite bizarrely, West Valley Automizers are sometimes drafted if GreenTeam is behind (for the record, West Valley, formerly Green Valley, serves Los Gatos, Campbell, and Saratoga).

Whenever I see this arm I always think of the words "retarded" and "spastic" which firstly label the design, but they might also describe the actual designer :P This is an arm which always entertains me; I love how different and unique it is.

Allied waste of Oregon used to have a couple of the trucks in their yard but I presume one is in the Corvallis yard still and it’s hidden somewhere

Amazing video! Pretty cool seeing a Cool Hand in action again. That squeak noise when the arm is coming down must get really annoying along with the arm being so slow.

There is a way to fix this ackward annoying arm!
    1. Extend arm fully
    2. Accelerate to 55 MPH or faster
    3. Let arm come into contact with a telephone pole, bridge abutment or other solid object.

Boy,that's got more monkey motion and wear points than any heil I've ever seen. Labries other arm is simple. This one? Not so much.

Blame Manco out of New Zealand for this monstrosity of an arm. Only reason New Way and Labrie bought these was because they could reach 9ft out while all other arms at the time could barely reach 6ft

@@BuddyFilming but could you make a week without something major breaking?
Bridgeports standard arm is 7.5 ft and they make an extended reach that is at least 12ft.

@@cbmech2563 oh yeah it’s possible to go months without something breaking on it. You just gotta know how to operate it just right.

@@BuddyFilming 🤔🤣🤣🤣 for the most part, trash truck drivers get hired to throw trash.......driving the truck is strictly accidental. Pun intended. I've been fixing trash trucks for 26 years and good drivers are few and far between.

That is a horrid design you can’t even get close to the cans with the truck because of how far the arm sticks out. Putting your truck into the oncoming traffic lane and making it impossible to pick up totes in tight places. So slow and inefficient.
