I'm really glad Seiko have this in their range. Most watches for the visually impaired are horrible contraptions but this is way better. Thanks for highlighting the watch. I know of some people who might be interested in it
Very cool. Thanks for showing it to us. My uncle is blind, and I remember him showing me something like this when I was a kid. He has a smart watch now of course. Thanks again!
I used to buy "Po Boy Sandwiches" from a guy who was visually impaired...he was legally blind, but could see some shapes. He folded his bills in certain ways to know the denominations and he used a watch like you presented to tell time. He was very independent and always upbeat despite his disability. Your review brought back fond memories of this man - Oscar. And, is, to me, one of the reasons to collect watches, for family and friend's memories.
I used to hang out at a bar about 15 years ago where an older bartender would check her watch that way. it took me a few weekends to figure out why. I wasn't much into watches at the time but thought it was pretty cool. Sometimes she would cook burgers and leave on the paper divider and serve it to people. She was a sweetheart. Bun, cheese, paper and burger.
Very cool to see the movement that it uses and it makes sense that it’s a high torque mvt. Had no idea about the thickness of the hands before seeing this too. Thanks for showcasing this, Marc!
Yeah man you earned it, keep up the work with UrbanGentry. 👊🏼 You guys are a dynamic duo. Would love to see you guys bring Jody from One More Watch into an episode.
I have an EOne Bradley that my wife bought a few years ago, and it uses a Ronda quartz movement, and is about $280. It uses ball bearings in tracks for the hour and minute, one on the edge and one on the face. I probably get more comments on it than any other watch I own. It was designed for a veteran that lost his sight, and looks great. Congrats on reaching 200k!
It is very cool but I feel a watch like this should also have a little speaker and a button at the 10 position that audibly cycles through the time and some other useful info every time it's pressed.
These are cool. I've considered getting one for the collection before. It really goes against all my watch instincts to reach in and touch the hands and dial!
Merci Marc for this interesting review and the insights. This is a neat idea from Seiko. I wasn't aware of this watch. I'll mention it to some of my patients who are visually impaired. The majority of them have the watch who vocally tells the time. Keep up your nice work. Greetings from a froggy in Montréal.
Great stuff, Mark! I saw (I think) this watch years ago on Robert DeNiro's wrist in a film- his character was meant to be blind. Had NO clue what it was and great to see this now! Love these exploratory vids, very cool. Cheers!
5:38 - I love your channel and I dig your videos. And I say this as a fan, but perhaps some nightly CeraVe or Nivea could help out with your, uh, situation here?
Oh wow. Blind youtuber Tommy Edison has a video talking about watches like these, he shows one that has braille markings as well. I didn't know Seiko made these, I thought they were only made by highly specific brands that specialize in these kinds of watches.
Great video, thanks Marc. I have a 1960’s vision impaired watch made by Smiths. Really fun to have one in your collection. What background are you using here, I’d love to get one too
Hey, you got a new camera! Looks so awesome -- great quality! I mean, you look awesome ... and your content is always great quality. Thanks for this segment. This is something really handy when you are in a dark theatre, or just the middle of the night.
Is it wrong of me to want to get one of these watches for myself even though I have 20/15 after LASIK? Maybe that's disability appropriation but I think its an awesome idea, it works in the dark and I just like the way it looks. Hey I was practically blind (without glasses) for the first 36 years of my life, I think that buys me an in. PS the only watch I'd like to see in the dark more is a blue Aventurine dial 38mm Brookville. The lume and the sparkles, that would be cool.
Thanks for sharing this watch with us. I think it looks like a dress watch. There is a similar purpose watch made by Citizen, with a different design, more like a field watch. See Citizen AC2200-55E, that can be purchased for 160 $ in my area , and 74 $ from Japan
Hey cool. I knew tactile watches existed, but this is the first time I've seen one live. Well, except for the Eone Bradley, which I found out about a couple of years ago, and then met someone (not blind) actually wearing one. Tells the time with two ball bearings that move around the dial with magnets. I might consider getting one just for the coolness factor. Question: does the Seiko have any water resistance?
My mom used to teach visually impaired kids ages ago, and she has an old braille watch. Hand-wound, but long dead, and mostly just lives in a drawer. But it's neat. Very small watch, probably around 20-25mm. The spring-loaded case flips open when you push on the crown, and it has raised markers at the 3-6-9-12, with extra ones at the 12. This Seiko seems really nice, with a lot going for it as a watch, even if you don't touch the hands and dial.
We had a Home Secretary (I think) called David Blunkett that had a similar watch, he would take his guide dog to the Houses of Parliament too. Of course had he put his watch on the dogs collar it would have made him a watch dog too.
@@jasondoe2596 maybe I need a braille watch as it wasn't obvious to me. It shows up in Google searches though and on a Seiko USA page so I guess it's real. Interesting.
Great discovery!
Thanks for sharing and expanding my horological knowledge 😊
I'm really glad Seiko have this in their range. Most watches for the visually impaired are horrible contraptions but this is way better. Thanks for highlighting the watch. I know of some people who might be interested in it
thanks for watching
Great different type of video. Thank you. I recall seeing ‘trench watches’ from First World War which had a similar design and function.
Very cool. Thanks for showing it to us. My uncle is blind, and I remember him showing me something like this when I was a kid. He has a smart watch now of course. Thanks again!
super cool, thanks for sharing.
It looks nice too!
I knew watches like this existed, but this is the first I have actually seen! Thank you for all you do!
thanks for checking it out
I love this! My girlfriend is totally blind, and I showed her this video. She does have one watch, but I would love to buy her this Seiko!
How did you show her the video?
@@MikeHere She's learned to listen very well, and picks up on cues that elude me.
Beauty and functionality! Outstanding!

I have a similar vintage Soviet watch, neat piece of history!

i see It is not only for visually impaired ones , it can be used to tell time in the dark for anyone. congrats on 200k subs
indeed, though tough to do.
What a fascinating watch, I too never knew these existed and it does look very cool!
Congratulations on 200K subscribers Marc. 💥
thank you, much appreciated.

Cool I remember enjoying the look of this watch before i knew its purpose. Thanks for the review!
Congratulations on 200k subscribers! My great-grandmother lived with Helen Keller.

Wow, fascinating!

Neat idea and looks respectable
exactly
Silvana and Witnauer by Longines used to supply watches for blinds in the 70s. They were hand wound mechanical watches.
It is very cool but I feel a watch like this should also have a little speaker and a button at the 10 position that audibly cycles through the time and some other useful info every time it's pressed.
They have those, this is more elegant, IMO
Vostok makes one as well. I have one and it is pretty cool. Good conversation watch.
I bet it’s a domed crystal because the hands may get slightly bent up naturally, and that leaves room for them. Nice looking watch.
good point
These are cool. I've considered getting one for the collection before. It really goes against all my watch instincts to reach in and touch the hands and dial!
I know, right? Very tempting

A watch with two rounded "tabs" that rotate (instead of a Bezel) - one tab for minute, one tab for hour. I'm on it!
Very nice watch indeed. And great execution on being on the minimalistic, but still a very stylish looking watch.
precisely
I was wondering how you tell the time before you opened the front. Great idea for the visually impaired. Thanks Marc! 🙏🏼
thanks for watching
Check out the E-One, very clever design.
I was gonna say very cool 😎 but someone else already said it 🥺 so I'll say congratulations 🥳🎉 200k🎊
thanks so much
This is a nice looking watch with great dimensions.
it really is a good looker

That, and he need some magnesium for sure plus b vitamins :D
Bro get some good multi vitamin supplements....
😂
Just needs to use white gloves, when filming
I have had luck with collagen. But it could well be that the stress of running a business does it!
I can do whatever I want, it doesn't matter. It's also just part of running a business.
This and the recent metronome watch are on my "completely ridiculous for me but so cool I want to buy@ list!
I know the feeling.

Obviously not?

A good April fools day joke would be him promoting a watch with a certain type of "movement"
