    Sorry guys, your analysis needs some analyzing…
    Kelly Olynick brings veteran presence and a dependable big off the bench. He’s a great passer as well as an outside shooter. He sets good screens and he has a high IQ. Smart big men that know the game, they make the right plays and provide great leadership on the floor. He’s play great this year and I’m sure he’ll be happy to play in Canada. Olynick and Barret have a successful history together. A late first round pick in the draft this year is not a huge asset.

    As a Raptors fan and Toronto native, I'm happy with the trade. Glad to have Kelly in Canada and hopefully we can develop Ochai into a reliable rotational piece.

    Kelly Olynyk is the kind of player who can help a team in more ways than just winning right now. He plays the right way with strong fundamentals that the young players on the Raptors and coming into the league can learn from. Boxing out, making smart passes which don't lead to turnovers, and setting good screens is what he does best and is what the Raptors are weakest at. He will help create a culture of good habits.
    And you have to realize that Otto Porter Jr is not a positive asset. He's been injured for most of his time here and is very rusty. To make the number of contracts and salary work without including other players they are shopping like Boucher, Brown, and maybe Trent Jr they had to include him and sweeten the deal with a better draft pick.

    We have needed another big for a while, especially with Koloko's unfortunate health issue causing us to lose him. When Poeltl was injured recently the team was really vulnerable, and with Kelly Olynyk they don't get "just" a back-up but a skilled 7ft rotation player who is, moreover, a good floor-space and passer. Having him and Poeltl will be fantastic for shoring up the Raptors' ability to play big while adding a bit of offence from Olynnyk. Imagine also upon occasion when Olynyk and Poeltl play together (!), giving the team a way to dominate around the basket when they need to. We haven't had two quality centres since Ibaka-Gasol.
    Olynyk is respected as a high-character player who will likely re-sign to play in Canada for, I presume, a 2 (maybe 3?) year team-friendly contract.
    Agbaji is also the right age and might have the talent to develop alongside the young core. The Raptors currently need talent and if he does have the talent he is presumed to have then let the Raptors development-oriented coach and system have a crack to make Agbaji a solid NBA rotation player.
    Giving up one of our "superfluous" 1st-round picks for 2024 is not a bad thing, not just because the draft class isn't supposed to be that deep, but how practically in any case could the Raptors develop 3 first-rounders plus the first 2nd rounder - Detroit's - simultaneously next year anyway? There would have been a log-jam for minutes, frustrations, etc.
    Love this trade for the Raptors as it increases the team's floor at centre where we have been too thin and doesn't cost us much in relevant value, and while also adding hometown character of Olynyk, the ability to play really big, as well as the potential "undeveloped talent upside" of Agabji.

      @mitch3DG 4 месяца назад +4

      Yeah I agree. I’m not sure why people are getting this worked up over a late 1st in a weak draft class. Ochai has potential and Olynyk is the perfect fit for this team.

    KO is a great pick up ... a cheap contract big who can stretch the floor ...exactly what we needed for our bench ...sign him to a 2 year 22 million dollar contract

  • @yaggin
    @yaggin 4 месяца назад +16

    terrible analysis. We already have 3-4 picks in this draft that's a weak draft. We were never going to add that many rookies onto our roster. To use a pick to get a better player than who we would've drafted that also cheap is just good business. Also getting KO, resigning him and flipping for more assets in the future, surprised these guys can't figure such basics out.

  • @pgauleygale
    @pgauleygale 4 месяца назад +29

    pretty critical analysis, Agbaji was supposed to be a 3 and D guy and still has two years left on a cheap contract, he's no more of a wild card than what could be coming in at 29th in a weak draft. Optimistically, Raptors are getting a guy who could be a role player, plays D (all of a sudden they need D), and has a history of being a solid threat from 3. Olynyk, well he's one of a few vets who will be pumped to play in Canada, shoots, passes, sort of a poor mans Gasol at this stage. He might be willing to resign at maybe $5-$6 million and provide bench leadership to a young team as none of the current vets will be back. Also strong chance Boucher and Brown get moved in the next couple of hours.....

    We got rid of Thad, siakam, Otto, OG. We need a leader and a shooting C to contrast with Jakub. Kelly is both of those things. Ochai has an extremely high floor as a 3 and D bench player. He’s going to have a long career in the league due to guarding all positions, shooting 3s and being athletic. I will go even further and say we offer Kelly a contract this summer. His game will age well like a Luis scola. Good passing big who can shoot and space the floor. Darko will love him

    Obviously you guys don't follow the Raptor's at all because if you did you would know that Poeltl is not a front line center who can get it done. Raptor's are getting beat night after night on the glass offensively and defensively, and as you know this league is turning into a league where it is essential that as a team you need to hit 10 to 15 3's a night or you will lose a lot of games. You need at least 3 guys on the floor at all times who can knock down a 3 if given the opportunity. Olynyk will be a huge upgrade and Poeltl will come off the bench a do an adequate job but nothing spectacular. He can't hit 3's and he can barely hit free throws, what he does is stand in front of the basket and hopes the ball comes his way. Now I don't know anything about Agbaji but from listening to guys he might have potential, so to sum it all up, this is a great trade for a Raptor team who is rebuilding and need competent players.

    Maybe Masai just wants to put a better quality product on the floor considering how much tickets cost to attend a game in Toronto. Look at how many tight games the raptors have been involved in during the first half of the season.
    Will not be surprised to see Coach Adrian Griffin returning as well, who knows.

    The Raptor and Jazz trade make a lot of sense for Raptors. Raptors receive two good player will be on rotation than one hardly seen on court and another never played. Also, Raptors may keep 2024 1st round pick, and it's okay to trade the worst 1st round pick.
