i don't think he's dead. it seems that the virus's mutation is based on how resilient the host is on dealing with the inflicted extreme fear. if it's seething hatred and revenge like gwinam, they become almost unkillable. if it's desperation out of love like namra, they're more human-like and controlled. since cheongsan wants to live for onjo, he could probably pull off namra's process.
Yes. I also think like that too. Not anyone can survive the virus to remain human.
The zombies weakness was literally fire and Chang sun was literally killed by fire 🔥 so it’s sad he’s dead but we gotta move on, and I hope he’s still alive cus he was a very good character but we can’t hope so much cus I’m 80% sure he’s dead

Fr, this is why I really don't see Cheong-san being dead if there's going to be a season 2, On-jo will have no one if Cheong-san is indeed dead. (Of course, there are friends but she'll have no one who's like family.) About the fire stuff, the thing about that is that yes, Cheong-san was in the fire but if you watched closely, Gwi-nam was literally blazing but Cheong-san was just like faded because he got covered. Now, Idk if this is just a mistake on the part of the CGI team but I'm going to hold onto this one, I already saw someone who noticed it too. And there's just too many vague stuffs, Cheong-san didn't show any symptoms of turning and his death is by fire, fire is one of the most used faked death stuff in movies/series, we also know how the director of the series always make it look like Cheong-san got hurt but he really didn't after getting on the next episode. The mutation of the virus also does all kinds of stuffs so I'm not going to be surprised if Cheong-san indeed became a half-bie and he gained the ability of regeneration which can possibly explain how he is alive, if he indeed got burned.

1-he didn’t turn into a zombie so maybe he’s a hambie like namra
2-namra told them there are still some like her so not all the zombies died from the fire
3-he used the bully as a shield
4-before blowing everything they told them to hide in the bathroom or something like that i don’t remember so if he fell into that thing he can survive ?
5-the name tag onjo gave him was still intact and not burned
6- he didn’t let any zombie bite him he was still fighting and willing to survive unlike the others when they are bited they just let all the zombies bite them

Remember the part when Cheong-San said, "I don't fear anything... I don't even fear you". This line here is a good explanation of Cheong-san's survival from the virus and possibly the fire. According to the Scientist, fear is what makes the virus stronger and therefore further destroys the healthy cells of the healthy host. But in the case of Cheong-San, he did not have any fear and thus, resisted the fatality of the Jonas Virus. The virus mutates really quickly and the source of the virus was from Gwi-Nam. Then, the Jonas virus from Gwi-nam could have mutated and found a better consciousness to Cheong-San. Therefore, the Jonas virus could have a better impact to Cheong-San since he resisted and the virus has mutated well from Gwi-Nam. Well, that's it folks for my fan-theory, let;s all wait until 2024 for the next Season.

well may i add on to your theory...with anther theory abt On-jo! That kissed they made might might have been the key in 'keeping' Cheong -san being a Hambi! Just a thought :)
Not to mention Gwi Nam also start to hurt his eyes when he already bites him and Cheong San is in the process of turning to zombie so it’s possible his eyes was still intact since the zombie can regenerate everything
Don't forget that the scientist who created the virus also said how extreme heat speeds up the transformation as he thought it would help the white blood cells to fight the virus but it helped the virus to mutate the white blood cells quicker. He had all of those space heaters set up around his wife and son in the apartment to try and fix it but it made it mutate further, Remember?
I am also unhappy about 2024 😢😢😢 Sooner is better.

I think Cheong-San is still alive and here´s why: Hambies have the ability to regenerate as we saw with Gwi Nam, he constantly was puting bones in it place after falling numerous times also his eye was almost with no scars at all at the end, so maybe if the fire of the explosion did not burn his brain he can still regenerates from the burns in his skin and other organs.
yeah i think so, Hambies regenerate more like Deadpool it’s slow but still regenerate.. so that’s why Gwi Nam eye still not yet healed at the end. And maybe each Hambies got a unique ability like Nam Ra easily jump from the rooftop without having a fear to break her leg or something.. did she get the ability to regenerate faster than Gwi-nam?
Chanyoung is such a good actor! I remember seeing him in "Nobody Knows" for the first time and was blown away. I highly suggest you watch nobody knows if you want to see more of him, dude has a lot of talent.
We all miss Cheong-san and want him back. But if the writers want to bring him back, then they need to have a rational and proper story on how he is still alive. If not, we'll just tell them "Why is Cheong-san this", "Why is Cheong-san that", and other common saying from people who have high expectations on his return.
We all want the sequel to be good just as the first, or even better. But for me, either Cheong-san dies for good to have a good chance on season 2 being good, or... Cheong-san comes back but the virus' lore, explanation of his survival, and other factors are properly explained and swallowable to the viewer's mind.
Ya, I want him to return as much as everyone else but just bringing him back for fan service may not be a good idea. Imo he went out in a good satisfying way and maybe it should stay like that unless they know what their doing
I want him to return but agree it needs to be a good explanation... since the hambies have healing abilities, he could have been there on the pile of zombies killed in the blast and Nam-ra doesn't smell him bc he either left in time or more likely he hadn't healed yet. Gwi-nam looked to be dead multiple times and then kept coming back. I think that could be a good explanation... maybe he kept his distance from the group afterwards for fear of further infecting them much like the struggle Nam-ra went through.
I still go back to when the professor believed the heat would increase the ability of the white blood cells to combat the virus like an induced fever since zombies were cold to the touch. Instead it mutated the virus more and all white blood cells were lost and he was bitten by Gwi-Nam so he was likely to be a half zombie who was then exposed to extreme heat but used Gwin-Nams body to shield him from the main part of the blast. I feel like we were already given much of the answers to why he may still be alive in S1 with the scientists tests that we were watching on his laptop and the outcomes. We have also seen the healing ability both with Nam-ra and with Gwi-Nam so there is nothing to explain there. I think he may be like the professor and be a full zombie but able to control his consciousness, which is what the professor was scared of creating. He may not expose himself due to appearance like the professor who was walking and not in any kind of frantic mode. Nam-ra and Gwi-Nam still struggle with "urges" but what if he was in complete control as he stated he had no fear at the end and was not in an emotional state of mind?
@@Lizzard2060 It's possible that the creators can use this info to bring Cheong back into the fold. But the execution on how they do it is important like did the bomb burned some of his body parts? they need to show it, did Gwi-nam burned alive in front of him? they need to show it, and last, did the scientist's theory is on point? they need to show it and play it in a proper manner.
What I am saying is that there are many ways the writers can eff'd the story with one plot hole mistake. If Cheong didn't reveal in some way that he was burned, or if the writers didn't show him how burned he is during the blast or after the blast, then many people will wonder if they bring Cheong back only to appease them. That is why execution is important.
Cheong San is my personal favorite character in all of us are dead .... I hope cheong san return in season 2...
Yeah, I feel his character developed the most and had a great arc. I think he will return.

I think the science teacher did mention that the one thing that can weaken the virus is heat. 🤔 So I think cheong-san could be alive. Or…Maybe cheong-san is immune to the virus. 😎

or because a literally bomb went off and the air was filled with ash and dust that she couldn’t smell anything

Another example is that Namra said that her mother gave them a bunch of money in order to make her class prez so other mates' parents weren't that much rich so that might be the assembly woman who is the mother of Namra
i only just recently thought of this but, what if cheongsan is a special case where he is immune to the virus. the scene where he’s
like “i don’t fear anything, i don’t fear you either” really made me think about how he could react to the virus, if at all. I know it’s a very far reach but i think it could be possible since he was one of the main characters (and they aren’t that easy to kill). I really hope there is a season two and that he could come back!! he was my favorite character!!
Remember the firefighter from episode 3 when he got bitten by his co worker but didnt turn to zombie? He still survive with On Jo’s father.
I want him to return in season 2 ..without him there is no mean of all of us dead another seasons ...he is the most important character of this series. Producers of this series should make him return...👍otherwise the rating of this show in season 2 will be decrease..

Nam on-jo’s badge unscathed is my reasoning that cheong-san is still alive. Sure, that scene slammed us with emotions, but I believe there’s more to it than just that. Phenomenal show. So happy I stumbled upon it.
I want cheong san to come back with bandages all over him like joshua graham because of the burns imagine cheong not being able to talk because of the bomb he walks over to on jo and just holds her name badge out before they embrace both crying their eyes out
There has to be an impactful plot for season 2 to come as season 1 was really packed with adventure, horror& thrillers

It really felt to me like he was the main character. I think diving into the elevator shaft was a final gambit to survive, but they left it open ended enough. He could be hiding and waiting to heal from his injuries as a half-zombie. I think if the showrunners really wanted him dead they wouldnt have had them dive into the elevator
they have told that normally it take 5 mins. to turn into a zombie after getting bitten... I dont think that all that emotional moment with On jo and luring zombies and fighting gwi nam was under 5 mins.. I think he is like nam ra who also didnt become the zombie in 5 mins... and also we get to see that on jo name tag didnt get burned, so it is possible that cheong san also didnt get burned to death...
my theory is that when nam-ra ran away , she was getting the smell of cheong-san again and to save him without telling others and the last scene when su-hyeok was smiling and everyone was shocked they were looking at cheong-san
i like so much cheong-san but i think this will be very difficult and incoherent to revive him but if the director gets there i think i would be happy
Honestly when you look closely the body looks like him because of the clothes. You can see the outfit he was wearing.

I hope that he will return. I think almost everyone that Gwi Nam has bit had turned completely or become a hybrid. What I am hoping is that he became a hybrid and got the abilities that the rest of them did to make him survive that fire. Also when the bombing happens and Gwi nam and Cheong san go down together it looks like the only one who is really engulfed by the flames is Gwi nam you can even see him turn orange and Cheong san does not. There are many hints to him being alive.

If they create a second season, I don't think Cheong-San will come back. I think he's 100% dead. But there is a small part of me that wishes he is able to. Although, I think it's very unlikely. I think we'll have to accept his death.
I actually thought we were going to see Cheong-san and Gwi-nam alive together. Having put aside their differences. Would be cool to see.
Cheongsan is the reason I watch it (also because it’s good) but I am begging he comes back in season to like namra and then him and on-jo finish what they started. I reckon they started to love each other more and I wanna see them in a relationship, that’s also what pissed me off when I sacfrised himself because they just left on-jo and his chemistry on the now exploded house
I have strong belief Cheong-san is the main character like Gwi-nam full on hunts him down like forever, it just wouldn't make sense him not coming back as a half infected like all the people who were bitten from Gwi-nam.
When cheong san fall with nam ki after the explosion i saw that nam ki is on the top covering cheong san on the explosion while falling, but i saw also cheong san bleeding nose it means he will turn to zombie but they didnt show that cheong san turn into zombie so he must be alive for sure

Maybe Cheong san didn't become o hambie maybe he was able to fought against the virus, yes maybe he had immunity but at the same time maybe he's a bit stronger than the hambie because as you all know when cheong san being a bait he was still being chased by zombies and still didn't turn to zombie when hw fought the bully. Ànd Namra said she can't smell him, its either he changed smell since it's been confirmed that hambie, zombie and human smell differntly according to nam ra and bully. So thats my theory lol either he's become stronger than hambie and resist the fire and explosions or just a normal hambie

Here's my theory (& forgive me with the names) obviously, we know about Nam-ra & the few people she met like her. Characters we already know or entirely new characters? Could Cheung-San be a part of her group?
The guy without the eye, he's probably still alive too & I believe he'll become right hand man to the father of the son/the creator of the virus. This man too will be fully aware & i believe that his plan will be to eliminate the entire human race & turn everybody into this new species. Nam-ra & her team will join forces with her friends & the army/government & it will be a fight between the two opposing forces.
Lastly, has anyone of you played lost: judgement? If you have then you know what I'm getting at right?
If you guy notice everyone got bite by zombie the eye will change and nose will bleed for a few min but look chong san he still can lure zombie jump down and fight nearly same as gwi nam

All of us are dead season 2 will be released by end of 2024 because in latest review of teen Vogue with Park ji hoo (on jo) she said they didn't started shooting season 2 yet
So season 2 shooting will start in August - September 2023 and casting will atleast take 1 year and CGI and VFX will take atleast 2-3 months so easily it will realease at the end of 2024 (November - December) 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I was predicting a spring 2024 release like somewhere between March-April-May 2024 but damn winter, that sucks but as long as it is as good if not better than season 1 I can wait as I believe in giving as much time needed to create good entertainment rather than being sloppy and rushing it.

I really love how the writers made Cheongsan’s character differ from the webtoon! He is such an iconic character here.. I think the writers created that open “ending” for him in hopes to comeback for a 2nd season in case it did very well ! I still have hope TT

I'm still hoping to see Cheong-sana on season 2
The show has already made his character different from the one in the comic. And you know what I love this version of him. He is way more cool and entertaining. I don't care if the zombies die by fire blah...blah...blah and to the people saying it's realistic for people to die. Man, it's a show about zombies let me dream that my favorite character comes back.

I’m sure hes alive in season 2, i mean cheongsan has nearly died in almost all of the episodes but the next episode it shows that he didnt get harmed at all. He did deserve to live and im sure he did survive the bombing, they’ve just shown many signs of it but if he isnt then the series wont be as good anymore, he was the main lead and if he isnt there in season 2, how could it possibly be good without him?
but the question is, will they still continue the story? their source material from the comic ended years ago, and the it has ended with their reunion with nam-ra, im really hoping for an s2 but it's highly unlikely

I don’t care if he need to use the so called “MC’s Plot Armor”, I JUST WANT HIM BACK SO BADLYYYY!!!! Dangggg!!! He was the main reason I stayed all night binge watch this series so imagine how heartbroken I am watching eps 11?! 😭😭😭 I mean, he is basically their head, the tactician. He was the one who always moved the entire crowd. He was not that strong unlike Su Hyeok since the beginning, but he was brave, and not the kind of stupid bravery but the one with the plans. Cheongsan took a while to be a zombie he was chased, and fought with gwi nam. I thought it will only took a couple of minutes so maybe he was a hambie already.

He got bit but the zombies were still desperate. The only reason why the zombies were chasing cheongsan was because he didnt show any signs of turning
Cheong-San is alive, here's why
If you'll look on EP 7 where the science teacher said "If the body temperature rises, the white blood cells activate". Basically the white blood cells are what keeping the "hambies" in control and not turning to a zombie. And if you'll also look at the supposedly death of Cheong San, he got infected by Gwi Nam right? And right after that, the bombing happened (are you still with me?). Then that means Cheong-San became a hybrid because he used the body of Gwinam to survive and at the same time, increased his body temperature therefore connecting this to the science teacher's theory.

I noticed that when they were bitten they have an extreme emotion of anger, desperation, and bravery.. this was highlighted in every event they were bitten.. others who are bitten have high emotions of fear.. so I think cheong san will really come because if this is his end.. season 2 will not be complete.. so many clues and speculations.. gggrrr... why you have to do this to me! 🤣

If the one who is infected is in deep fear, the virus dominates. But in extreme emotion the virus mutates.

I think cheong-san survived. Using that other dude as a shield since he fell down the elevator shaft there could of been a basement level or he could of potentially of maybe hidden under the zombies at the bottom and since he was bitten he could be in the process of turning but not fully like some of the others and now has to regenerate after the trauma he sustained

I definitely think cheongsan is alive. The thing I noticed was that On-Jo’s name tag that he had was not burnt, plus they didn’t show his body. He’s also didn’t turn even after getting bitten, I think he’ll come back as. Half-zombie like Nam-ra. He’s my fav character I really hope they bring him back
I also remember that when the science teacher turned he wasn't showing any zombie like traits so i think he is also one of the hybrids

It has been speculated that he was happy to see the chaos in the police department and people getting what they deserved in his opinion. It has been speculated that he will be a villain in the next season as a half zombie but it seems each of them take it to an internal emotional place. The bully took it to hate. Nam-ra wanted to be liked and protect her peers. The phone smashing chic wanted revenge and lost emotional control frequently. The virus is based on fear response but maybe goes to your base emotions and if you are a good person deep down or not. What your actual intentions are. I think there will be some "good" half zombies and some bad half zombies based on who they were in life. The military is going to need to cope with the good half zombies fighting to protect them and the innocent or they will all die.
That dude HAD THE WEIRDEST TRANSFORMATION. He got bit and was just like “just a flesh wound” and instantly transformed.

Ok since many of us have a strong feeling that there’ll be a season 2 with Cheongsan alive can we talk about how Onjo got bitten? I swear there was this part in the earlier eps where she was bitten or is it just me? The director also said that the show has to be watched several times to see the tiniest details. Also, the part when she and the smart guy went to get the drones, a rat was seen climbing up to her sock. Could she have been bitten just that she didn’t feel it? Could she be the most resilient to the Jonas virus after all? This, among the many mysteries, have been bothering me since finishing the show.
I think she is the cure
I will rewatch. I know the rat was the original carrier and how that student got the virus at school and needed to be tied up. The closest you can get to the original virus is the best chance of understanding it and treating it or curing it. I think if zombies were chasing me or I was in a high stress situation a mouse bite would be the least of my concerns and I would brush it off.
Fine, a reason to rewatch. OK!!! I really enjoy when directors put that much pride in their work that small details can be missed and you gain more understanding or notice more watching a second or third time.
She could be completely immune to the virus entirely.
She didn’t get bitten, she got scratched. Scratches don’t turn people into zombies in this show
namra tried to eat on jo so she's not a zombie.
So after a rewatch in the very first episode when the zombie girl who was bitten by the hamster is taken to the infirmary it appears as thought Onjo is bitten by the girl and retracts her hand quickly then holds it in pain. Her father then wraps her wrist and we are never allowed to see the wound at all nor it is clearly explained what the wound is. Su Hyeok says that the girl was trying to bite everyone and Onjo was injured when this occurred. When Onjo is asked about her wound that is now fully covered and treated by her father, whom she told she would tell the whole story to later that night, she gets angry about her neighbor boy asking questions and makes a snide remark "it's just a scratch" playing it down but we don't really know for certain. Also the directors framing of Onjo in the beginning and especially in the final scene show her as the last real main character in front and center implying she has a major role to play in season 2.
I believe she could be fully immune or a cure.

I think cheong san and gwinam both are alive. Do you remember when there was bombing cheong san pulled gwinam towards him and they fell into the hole where bodies of zombies were pilled up. I think cheong san saved the life of gwinam. And they would become friends. These hybrid would take revenge from the other side of authorities to leave them for dying and then bombing.. Remember the last episode. The focus was on why authorities left them for dying.. If there is season 2 .. I hope cheong san is alive. My fav character!!

During the explosion scene we can see that Cheong San also pulled Gwi Nam, so it is safe to assume that they both are still alive

There's a possibility that Cheong-San is still alive. The virus might have mutated, as we have seen most people who have been infected, it only took less than 3-4 minutes to completely become a zombie.

There's no clear explanation about the half zombie actually. You see Namra become a half zombie because she was bitten by Gwinam and I thought Nayeon and the archer boy will also be half zombies. And the possibility of Cheongsan and Gwinam death are still questionable because it's kinda weird when Gwinam could die only by fire while he fell from high building, being stabbed at his neck and heart but still not died.

* Season 2 has yet to be written.. and there's a clamouring for his Character to return.. the Writers/directors will notice this and generally will look to give the people what they want, that's common sense.
If I had to bet on it, he'll be back.. and not straight away, but when the surviving group and/or On-Jo has they're/her backs against the wall, he and likely Nam-Ra will make the last minute rescue.. I would bet good money this is how it plays out ;)
The disbelief + smirk by su-hyeok at the end looks like he just saw an old friend he couldn't belief is still alive.
Namra told the crew that announcement suggesting to hide under ground somewhere to save your self and I remembered On Jo said to Cheong San that you won't give up no matter what happens so conclusion is he executed very well as he didn't gave up against Gwinam and use him as a shield to reach to the ground. On Jo name tag didn't turned in to the ashes means Cheong San was abled to save himself.
I think he is still alive. Nam-ra probably lied to on-jo when they came back to the building after the explosion because she thinks cheong-san turned into a hambie and she doesn't want to put others in danger. That's why she comes back to school after the others leave. And when she said there were others like her I was sure cheong-san will be alive. Hoping for the bestttt 🤞🤞💓

I think due to the virus interaction with the heat it would have been possible for cheong san to develop enough antibodies when he had contact with the flames therefore instead of him turning fully he instead turned to a hambie

Cheong San is a halfbie who develops a unique attribute that is flame resistant. Just my theory.
If Gwi-Nam is still about then that doesn't bode well for the rest of the group. Although I think with Nam-Ra and Cheong-San on the other side of the wall they'd be able to be great leaders.
And why would Cheong san grab gwi nam and jump if he really wants to kill gwi nam he could have stayed on the floor and wait for the fire to kill them I think Cheong saved gwi nam

I hope the writer of 'The Penthouse' will get involved in season 2. The master of redemption haha. There's one hint that Cheongsan could be alive. There's a scene of what NamRa's heard from the announcement came from the helicopter that if you stay underground there's a possibility that you could survive from the fire. Cheong san fell using GuiNam as a shield I hope they fell on the zombie's bodies below so it could absorb the shock on Cheong san's fall. and there's no way that the on jo's name tag (inside the pocket of Cheong san) didn't burn into ashes?
