I've always liked this song, but recently my friend from the Navy came home and while we were hanging out, this song came on. I expected he wouldn't like it, so I skipped it. He instantly told me to go back and play it, and I did. As it played I glanced over at him while he sang and the glimmer in his eyes was the cutest thing I've ever seen. I'm not in love with him, but I definitely have strong feelings for him. Something about him I've never noticed came to light the couple days we were with each other. However, I also agree that the melody helps in creating that atmosphere ! ^^ Compared to the verses, the vocal range used in the chorus is very wide ^^ However, when singing the higher notes, on " golden hour ", he's using head voice, which has a lighter sound quality than the register he uses for " shine " at the beginning of the chorus (which would be more of a chest/mix kind of register) ! ^^ This helps creating contrast, which make the thing very pleasing to listen to ! ^^ We can also look at the chord progression to see what makes it special ! ^^ The first thing I noticed is that the recording is not in A 440, which means that it will sound slightly lower that the notes we're used to (assuming 12-TET is our reference) ^^ But let's put that aside and let's look at the chords ! ^^ The chords in the chorus are : Amaj7 | Amaj7 - Am(maj9) | Emaj7 | Emaj7 - Em7(b5) or Em(maj7) - G#7(b13) ^^ So in terms of degree we have IV | IV - iv | I | I - ii°/bVII or bvi/bIII - III (or V/bvi) ^^ Aside from the end (where I'm not to sure of the chords, I tried to find them based on their sounds), it's very " simple " in terms of scale degrees. However, the strong asset of this chord progression is the Am(maj9), because it uses a C natural, which is the b6 in the key of E major (the key of the chorus) ! ^^ This note in particular is very often used to evoke feelings of melancholy/nostalgia ! ^^ Aside from that, I think that the chord progression is really logical if we look at when each chord is played compared to the lyrics of the chorus ! For example : the first Amaj7 comes with the word " shine " ^^ maj7 chords often have a very soothing and soft sound ! They have a very " dreamlike " quality to them which perfectly suits the word sung over it ! ^^ Later in the chorus, under the " golden hour " part, we have the chord change from Am(maj9) to Emaj7 ^^ This uses the b6 discussed earlier to make the E chord sounds more powerful (because C is a semitone apart from B, one of the notes of said E chord) ^^ The fact that it's a maj7 chord gives an almost ethereal quality to this " golden hour ", making it seem that it is a very special moment ! ^^ Without going into too much details (or at least, without going into more details than I already have, because my comment is starting to get pretty long), it's a very beautiful chorus ! ^^ The whole song is very great ! ^^

This was one of her favorite songs. She always said that this song maked her think of me, so she dedicated and sang it to me many times, but for some reason, i never really liked it. Yall this song is MAGICAL. Just yesterday I helped out with a really good friend's wedding and they chose this song for her aisle walk. The ushers were in front of her and they separated at "S H I N E" and just- even when they played the song at the rehearsal I had to stop myself from tearing up. It was like living in a fairy tale. i just want to convey how much i adore jvke as an artist. to be quite honest, the only few songs that i’ve listened so far made by him was this and ‘this is what falling in love feels like’. these two songs are very short, but the amount of emotions I felt during these few minutes is a lot. i could feel like i was falling in love in a childish, giddy way, with ‘this is what falling in love feels like’ and i felt so enamored, i could feel as if i was falling in love deeply-no way out, with someone, with this song. ngl, one of my top love language is words of affirmation, and this song just fuckin gets it. i’m a romantic and i can say, i’m falling in love with the image of my future love of my life (i’m still yet to find them) with this song, and for sure, this song will be the background song to a future core-memory that’s yet to be unlocked. this is one of the few songs i could get lost in in such a beautiful way.

So many people make fun of him for his infamous incident that resulted in him cutting off his ear, but if you read his letters to his brother, he's so much more than that. He's a brilliant soul that was horribly misunderstood. You know, he *shined* so brightly in his brief time on this earth. His art became famous because of his brother's wife, Jo van Gogh, and she's the reason we have these treasures in collections and museums. She helped preserved her husband's and his brother's wish. Idk, just some thoughts I have about this coupled with this beautiful song.

This is a very good song which could be improved if they re-recorded it and took out the distortion snd made the rap section more full. I don’t love some of the chord choices but it is creative.

My personal favourite part was when the beats drops and it has distortion that shakes my whole table along with the "shine" that also have choppiness(reverb?), it just adds something to the whole vibe.

However, I also agree that the melody helps in creating that atmosphere ! ^^ Compared to the verses, the vocal range used in the chorus is very wide ^^ However, when singing the higher notes, on " golden hour ", he's using head voice, which has a lighter sound quality than the register he uses for " shine " at the beginning of the chorus (which would be more of a chest/mix kind of register) ! ^^ This helps creating contrast, which make the thing very pleasing to listen to ! ^^
We can also look at the chord progression to see what makes it special ! ^^ The first thing I noticed is that the recording is not in A 440, which means that it will sound slightly lower that the notes we're used to (assuming 12-TET is our reference) ^^ But let's put that aside and let's look at the chords ! ^^
The chords in the chorus are : Amaj7 | Amaj7 - Am(maj9) | Emaj7 | Emaj7 - Em7(b5) or Em(maj7) - G#7(b13) ^^
So in terms of degree we have IV | IV - iv | I | I - ii°/bVII or bvi/bIII - III (or V/bvi) ^^ Aside from the end (where I'm not to sure of the chords, I tried to find them based on their sounds), it's very " simple " in terms of scale degrees. However, the strong asset of this chord progression is the Am(maj9), because it uses a C natural, which is the b6 in the key of E major (the key of the chorus) ! ^^ This note in particular is very often used to evoke feelings of melancholy/nostalgia ! ^^
Aside from that, I think that the chord progression is really logical if we look at when each chord is played compared to the lyrics of the chorus ! For example : the first Amaj7 comes with the word " shine " ^^ maj7 chords often have a very soothing and soft sound ! They have a very " dreamlike " quality to them which perfectly suits the word sung over it ! ^^ Later in the chorus, under the " golden hour " part, we have the chord change from Am(maj9) to Emaj7 ^^ This uses the b6 discussed earlier to make the E chord sounds more powerful (because C is a semitone apart from B, one of the notes of said E chord) ^^ The fact that it's a maj7 chord gives an almost ethereal quality to this " golden hour ", making it seem that it is a very special moment ! ^^
Without going into too much details (or at least, without going into more details than I already have, because my comment is starting to get pretty long), it's a very beautiful chorus ! ^^ The whole song is very great ! ^^

i just want to convey how much i adore jvke as an artist. to be quite honest, the only few songs that i’ve listened so far made by him was this and ‘this is what falling in love feels like’. these two songs are very short, but the amount of emotions I felt during these few minutes is a lot. i could feel like i was falling in love in a childish, giddy way, with ‘this is what falling in love feels like’ and i felt so enamored, i could feel as if i was falling in love deeply-no way out, with someone, with this song. ngl, one of my top love language is words of affirmation, and this song just fuckin gets it. i’m a romantic and i can say, i’m falling in love with the image of my future love of my life (i’m still yet to find them) with this song, and for sure, this song will be the background song to a future core-memory that’s yet to be unlocked. this is one of the few songs i could get lost in in such a beautiful way.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that a Van Gogh piece is the art for the album? And if you know anything about the artist, you'd know he had a very troubled life, struggled with mental illness, his brother, Theo, was the only one that supported his career. So many people make fun of him for his infamous incident that resulted in him cutting off his ear, but if you read his letters to his brother, he's so much more than that. He's a brilliant soul that was horribly misunderstood. You know, he *shined* so brightly in his brief time on this earth. His art became famous because of his brother's wife, Jo van Gogh, and she's the reason we have these treasures in collections and museums. She helped preserved her husband's and his brother's wish. Idk, just some thoughts I have about this coupled with this beautiful song.

This is a very good song which could be improved if they re-recorded it and took out the distortion snd made the rap section more full. I don’t love some of the chord choices but it is creative.
@@davidrockefeller2007 I love the distortion and reverb in it maybe because the whole vibe i got from this song was so grand so if it was too clean it will sounds fake and too polish to me.
My personal favourite part was when the beats drops and it has distortion that shakes my whole table along with the "shine" that also have choppiness(reverb?), it just adds something to the whole vibe.

@@legzzzzz it's the opposite for me the distorted bass and reverbs felt like i was in the same room where the concert is actually happening with classical instruments mixed with modern instruments.
This artist produce something new and unique, i would never thought everything in this song will work together (atleast for me), This song felt like an experiencing a song rather than just listening to a song.
