Funny thing I've noticed most interviews especially towards the late 80s it's like Micheal's Aussie accent began to change especially when you see him in that world famous interview with Paula Yates. Here I noticed is when his accent began to change.

I think his accent started out as proper English from school in Hong Kong for 6 years, then added a little Aussie (spent years aged 13 & 14 in Australia), then added some American English at age 15-16. Then back to Australia for last year in high school. He really didn't spend much school time in Australia. Hence his not very Aussie accent.
