All people make fun of this blocking stuff. But it is actually a big thing. To have a TE who can catch as good as gronk and can block like a OL is very valueable. Most teams have multiple TE beacuse it is hard to find a guy who can both as good as gronk. Blocking as a thing is so underrated in this league. Blocks by Lineman or TE etc are probably the reason for 80% or all explosive plays you have seen this season.

I mean that's part of the Tight End's job. This video should really be renamed a Tight End's underrated skill because being good at being another lineman is just as big a skill a tight end needs as being a good eligable reciever.

    • @ppumpkin3282
      @ppumpkin3282 3 года назад +5

It's a very tough match up, if Gronk blocks he can handle a big DE, but then if he fakes a block or chips and goes out, line backers can't cover him, and he's still a tough matchup for a CB. Thats what makes Gronk so valuable. It also explains why backs like Dion Lewis, Sony Micheal, can look so good with the Patriots. Most teams would be better off having a running back by committee, since great backs are expensive, and injury prone.

He might be the most complete Tight-End of all time ...
He was always the best blocking tight end during his career (every year) and usually finished in the top 5 in catches and top 5 in yards.
Example: The receiver-only tight ends frequently had to come out of the game on short yardage downs
Gonk never had to come out because he could perform every task necessary in any down or distance
This made him super valuable as every other team had to telegraph a run because they had to bring in their blocking tight end or have no tight end
The defense never knew if Gronk was blocking or going out for a pass and THAT isn't easy to match up against

  • @bryantharris5914

Essentially with Gronk in the game you had a power run personal package as Gronk could block like a true lineman, almost like an additional tackle on the field (probably a little undersized as a true tackle but the skill was there). So you have the power run game.
But Gronk was also an elite route runner with a ridiculous catch radius who could get separation on line backers and could box out defensive backs.
Then you have a third option, which is Gronk initially blocks to release his one on one coverage man, then he sneaks out delayed.
He's one guy, but he added so much dimension to any offensive personal group allowing run, pass or delayed pass options.

This is why guys like Jimmy Graham and Kelce (Kelce isn’t a bad blocker but he’s not great) were never on Gronks level. A healthy Gronk was the most dominant non-QB offensive player in the league. The best evidence to this was when Gronk would play the Broncos and he would block Miller and also draw all of Talibs attention. Think about that...he eliminated BOTH the best defensive end and best cornerback in the league on plays in which he was just blocking...

I don't get why so many of the comments act like caring about blocking is this weird thing. Why do you guys even watch football if you don't care about blocking? It's literally most what goes on during a given play. Only one guy has the ball at a time. Everyone else is either blocking or running a route (or the QB standing around after a handoff). Would you rather watch wide receivers get all of the glory despite playing the EASIEST position on the field (not counting special teams)? Blocking and tackling. That's football. If you can't do those two things you will lose.

    • @xaviervega468

I recall a mic’d up episode years ago of a Pats-Ravens game and Gronk tortured Terrell Suggs all game. At one point he blind side pancaked him, and Suggs gets up and asks a teammate who that was. “Gronk” Suggs just groaned. Classic

Gronk also once stoned Haloti ngata on the goal line for a touchdown.

I'm a Giant's guy, so MARK BAVARO is the greatest. But Gronk is a better receiver and about as good a blocker as RAMBO, so I have to give him the respect he earned...Kittles is in the same category.

This is what separates him further from Kelce.

Kelce is a better route runner, kelce and gronk have similar catching ability, but gronk is 10 times the blocker kelce is, that's what seperates him aa the goat.

Why does GRONK never get called for holding ? Watch his hands . he almost always keeps them inside , thus preventing him from grabbing on the OUTSIDE , which can lead to a holding call .

Who knew that the rule against holding does not apply to Gronk? Hands on the outside of the shoulder pads would be called against other teams. Grab the DE's arm in a half-nelson? No call if it's Gronk.

Lowkey, for his number 1 pick, Dwayne Allen had a WAY better pancake block. 2:22

The running back at 0:39 could of at least helped Gronk up. Straight Disrespectful.

In half of these clips, Stephon Tuit is slanting away from the side that the run is to. Tuit was just doing what he was told to do. In the last clip, Gronkowski is just making a normal block on a defensive end that is slanting the opposite way, and Dwayne Bowe makes a much more notable block next to him. This guy thinks hes smart just because hes pointing out things that most people don't, but hes wrong most of the time.
