To be fair, I had those as a kid, as well. And they are very entertaining to watch and easy to care for.

Fun fact on triops: They can reproduce asexually. Luckily the eggs only hatch once they've been completely dried out and sat for a while. I've honestly considered getting some since this trait means a triops colony can essentially be biologically immortal with a controllable dormancy period. The fact that they look like weird alien monsters is a plus too.
That actually sounds wicked
they are cool things
another fun fact: they are also called tadpole shrimp
Omg, when my sister was 7 she had adopted a pet STINKBUG! Yes you heard right. She loved her. Set her up in a little cubby in her room. Had a rectangle piece of cloth for a rug. Had decorations for her, she was living the life. Until one day she wanted the stinkbug to look “pretty”, and with nail polish painted her “shell”... didn’t end up well. R.I.P. my sister’s stinkbug.
This was adorable... Until the end 🥺

No the only reason you shouldn’t have 2 is if it has a disease or if it can’t be compatible with another one ( which is rare) I’m trying to give advice as my first ferret dies after a year from depression. They will stop eating. Also make sure to use a water bowl( not one of those Guinea pig straw bottle thing) and feed it raw meat diet
Triops are neat if you take the plastic tank you're given with them and put them in a terrarium around that.
Certainly they were cannibals, but the survivors get huge, and they like to chew on any grass that dips into their tank.
Treat them like the transitory predator shrimp things they are, and they'll give you something to watch.
Also dry out the tank for a while after they die off and any eggs they laid will be viable for a long time.

Harvey no.
I had triops and I loved them. A few survived and stayed pretty big pretty long, but there was definitely cannibalism. I weirdly wasn't upset by it, though I think knowing about cannibalism beforehand in general also helped.
Other than that, I dunno. I've primarily had just cats. I also had turtles, guinea pigs, and fish at varying points. There were also a few kits my mom had gotten for ladybugs, ants, butterflies, and seamonkeys, and triops as previously mentioned. I highly recommend the first three especially, and I never recommend seamonkeys. Triops are iffy -- again, re: cannibalism and looking terrifying. They're good if you like terrifying cannibalistic water bugs, though.
I’ve had many pets including a stick bug, His name was Goober :’)
I have to say... that's a fantastic name.

We have a chicken named Sharron, she has:
-eaten live mice
-eaten chicken
-been besties with our outside cats
-lived in perfect harmony with our dogs since we got her
-TERRORISED the new puppy
-stolen food from our cats
-lived to 7 thus far
-been very social and friendly
-eaten out of our hands
-walked into the house, made eye contact, proceeded to sh*t on the floor then leave (this has happened many times)
-chased the puppy away and then taken over his bed
-we’re also pretty sure she beheaded our rooster but we never found his body so we’ll never know, it’s just a theory, a chicken theory.
-we loved her so much that we wanted to get some chicks so we got a rooster, he did the whole dance thing and she looked at him, then proceeded to attack and rip his feathers out and terrorise him into submission.
-she also likes getting in the house then hiding until we find her.
Update: Sharron recently passed away at the ripe old age of 8, she died peacefully in her sleep, rest in peace my beloved therapy chicken.
She's returning to her dinosaur roots-

1:37 Amy talks about how she became terrified of stick insects because her mother was terrified.
Funny enough, I had a babysitter when I was around three and she feared snails. Being the kid I was, I started to fear them, too. To this day I still can't pick up snails (not even by the shell), I avoid bushes and anything that could contain snails. When it rains and I go outside, I walk on my toes and scan the ground constantly to make sure I don't step on any.
Goes to show what influence an adult can have on a young child.
Fear is learned unfortunately... Still working on undoing the damage.
its never happened to me before so
I'm comfortable seeing a snail crawl by
as seeing a bug fly
I'm afraid of pain.. cause I've been in the hospital many times. Pretty sure I have a trauma of IVs tho
My brother loved snails too much. He put slugs and snails on his pillow so that they had a soft place to sleep. My mother was weirded out.
@@user-iu6gc1bu9j I remember once my younger sister (we're five years apart so I would say she was around two or three and I maybe eight) caught on that I was afraid of snails she would chase me with them. I also have a distinct memory where she would squeeze her thumb into the shell and squish the poor little guy.
"A pet that can walk the walk, but can't talk the talk" Perfect logic, despite the result, especially when you have options such as dogs barking very loudly in the middle of the night... Kappa just chilling in the background tho 😂👌
I remember having the triops and being a little concerned that not only had science managed to somehow ressurect a dinosaur, but that it was selling them to children as pets.

"pets"... Strange way of spelling traumatic experiences.
my entire class thought I was weird in elementary because I wanted a chameleon, a toucan, and a Japanese giant salamander for pets.
But I laughed when I saw their faces as I explained to them what a sea monkey was.
I almost had triops, but then I had nightmares of them infesting my house so I hid the bag of their eggs in the attic. Then a week later I got scared that they took over the attic, but it turns out that my mum found the bag and was probably like:
Why does my kid hide rubbish in the attic?
And she threw them away

“But Ripley May still be out there,” *sits here knowing how waste water treatment plants work, “Likely not.”
There’s also their short lifespan. Given how they live in temporary pools, they live fast and die young.
Keyword: LIKELY NOT 100%
@@sarahjordan4845 So there’s 3 major stages, the first which is where Ripley would die, is for waste water directly from people. The pipes bring the waste water to the plant and into a large tank. The tank gets skimmed and settles large pieces of waste. The waste then gets pushed to an incinerator to burn and be part of the fuel for the plant. One of two things happens, the water is deemed fit to go into the nearest large wild source of water or goes through another stage where chemicals assist further in separating out waste and nasty from the water, and if the water is meant to be for humans at some point, further chemicals are added to kill any water based diseases such as cholera.

When I was a kid, I had pet butterflies, which, I let go; after they grew up. I also had some Pollywogs or Tadpoles, until they grew up; & they literally, jumped out of the tank, because; they had turned into frogs. Those were the Weird Pets, I had, as a kid.
My family would take in leaves with caterpillar eggs on them, raise them, then release the butterflies

The reason the triop was trying to jump out of the cage is because it needed more space to move in. Maybe it needed a bigger tank. And when rainfall comes you could release it into a puddle so it could lay its eggs. Then when the puddle dried up the eggs would remain dormant until the next eggs. But yes I know this triop was flushed into the sewers, never to be seen again. And these guys will not lay eggs in you at night. They’re more similar to horseshoe crabs.
