Frankly being an old school dude, the first option is perfect, never knew it was that easy until now, Ive done it all the other ways with less than stellar results tnx for what you do
There's one more way, and it's quite convenient! MAke a time selection on the area you want to change of the envelope then turn the envelope knob on the left in the TCP. It just moves vertically the envelope within the time selection!
Very handy tip, thanks! It seems like that knob may adjust only in 25 db increments? I'm noticing that turning it full-left from a starting level of 0.00 db reduces the affected area to -25.00 db rather than "-inf", after which the knob springs back to the middle position. Repeating the process brings it down to -50, then to -75, etc., and if I start from, e.g., +5.00 db instead of 0.00, then it drops to -20, -45, -70, and so on. This might all just be my configuration, but I thought it was interesting enough to mention. Still a very useful tip though, thanks again!
My buddy and I do a lot of weird off-the-cuff synth stuff. In post, not only do I automate our relative volumes but I do the same with panning. I can emphasize certain parts by giving them motion within the stereo field. Conversely, I can de-emphasize parts by scattering them. I usually start by shift-clicking many points within an area of interest.
Love these tutorials and the added bonus of being able to put a face to the voice! I'm wondering if anyone has had luck using a physical board like a TASCAM Model 12 or similar as a DAW controller while having Reaper record the automation.
hello Kenny, great video. i have a question, recently i used real midi control for an envelope in east west opus on a midi track. I wanted to envelop it but I don't know what I did I ended up with the envelope on the midi item and no longer on the dedicated track. Please give me some explanations.
Kenny, I have a question. In your list of videos still to come, can you add, "How to make a single vocal sound like a crowd using stock plugins in Reaper"? Like making a crowd chant "Make it happen" from a single person saying it? Just a thought. Thanx again for all you do for us!
Not particularly sure abaut my advice but I think I once had a similar result with the "JS chorus". You can select the "number of voices" from its menu(up to 8) And you can also use overdub obviously :P hope that helps...
When I installed the newest Reaper version I noticed it offering me some Asio thing to install which sounded like it could do exactly that but I havent tried it out yet.
Is there any way to shoft automation points or segments in time while locking their value? Also, is it possible somehow to "scale" a segment between points in the time axis only?
I start to be addicted to your new style of intros. Why when I try to replicate the razor editing I create instead automation items, each one having the same shape of the last one I have made? Can you clarify also using pooled/unpooled duplicates. Thanks
@@ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP oh man I was using an old version of reaper without this feature. Now I upgraded and it works, thank you. But I am experiencing a strange problem: when on the same envelope I create a razor edit on the right of a previous automation item, by changing the razor's envelope volume causes the automation item volume to disappear !
Woooh, Kenny is doing a c-c-c-c-combo! If by any chance you happen to make a video about how I could apply a specific FX only on a certain portion of a track / mix (for example, a second EQ for the 4 first measures), that would be awesome! Thanks!

@@earowemusic Never noticed that actually, I will double check. I think it could be some option around though.
Dude, what a upload streak :)
Real talk : this is gonna be SUCH a game changer for me. Thank you so much !
Ooh that razor edit way is nice. Interestingly, the best sounding one was the one where you put it in touch mode and did it by feel. Old school like.
Great video.Never saw some of those techniques.Once again,Kenny rules!

I love using manual volume automation. For most of my purposes it is much faster and more accurate than recording in automation.
Cheers Kenny. Another cracking tutorial!

Nice Kenny, so easy and efficient
I've been doing the third method this whole time it takes forever clicking points if its a large part. Thanks!
I knew the other techniques, but I just have met the razor edit and what a nice tool! Thank u
Another winner, thanks, Kenny
The razor tool looks dope! Never knew about it. Thank you Kenny 🙏🏽
Kenny is on fire!!! Please keep it up!
Lets see more of that dope workspace
You can also draw an automation item below the automation curve by holding alt on PC (opt on mac) or right-click and Insert new automation item
Nice video kenny
please more of envelope in reaper
Ace, as always! Thanks KG.
You’re on fire today!!
Just trying to keep up with you. ;)
Great tips as always !!!
I use pretty much all of these except razor edit, which I didn't know about. That will come in handy for sure.
Kenny when would you choose volume automation above compressing? Or the other way around?
I would compress for a compressed sound and automation to ride the volume so usually it's both.
Love your new intro nice to put a face to the voice

on the envelope track if you right click on the controls, there are some options. maybe that would help.

Hey Kenny a very important question, how can we pan midi notes individually, like fl studio? can we do it?
MIDI Pan is #10 in the MIDI Controllers.
@@REAPERMania Thank you so much 😭❤️

@@hannibalbarkas1350 yes, there are options for windows but I can't figure it out for mac yet
Is there a way to automate the input level without cutting the item ?
Sometimes I want to control the volume before the compressor is applied.
I mean 'clip gain' stuff. in the other DAWs.
Automate the Volume Pre-FX parameter on the envelopes list

make sure you right click the mouse, automation items are created with left click
pulled item is created when another one is selected at that moment
