These are a few scenes from the 1959 film Verboten! filmed on the backlot 40 Acres where The Andy Griffith Show exteriors were filmed. The movie stars James Best.
When I was a kid living in L.A. I would sneak over the fence and play in these back lots after school. One time a security guard saw me inside the studio lot and I ran and hid in one of the buildings. Sure wish they still had this place today. They should have made this place a historical site and not torn it down But big money always wins over saving historical buildings and old movie lots like these- cry.
The Desilu back lot. It used to be the RKO lot before Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz bought it in the late 50s. In 1967, Lucille (who had bought out Desi after their divorce) sold the lot to Paramount, which was right next door. All Paramount had to do was tear down a wall to join the two lots.
Sgt. James Best fighting Nazis. He runs to and stands in front of a courthouse in Germany circa 1945. The next year, (1960 already?!) he becomes Jim Lindsey, the guitar player in 2 episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, and will spend some time in the Mayberry, North Carolina jail, which is in that very same courthouse!A mixed up parallel dimension!
I believe the guy on the jeep was James Best. He was in a few episodes of TAGS. He was a musican and played the guitar.

Technically this town isn't Mayberry yet. Andy Griffith show didn't happen until 1960, one year later.
Don't worry Barney will take care of them!

The entire 40-Acres Back lot was demolished for a parking lot.
