I used to work in a London rehearsal studio back in the late 80's early 90's . Big Audio Dynamite original line up used to practice there . As a massive fan of the Clash this was amazing for me as a 17 year old . Once while setting up their room Mick was there to. He unusually arrived early that day . We had a cup of tea and he was noodling on his Bond guitar playing a reggae version of London's Burning . I stood cup of tea in hand in awe. Mick is the real deal and a lovely bloke . No airs or graces . The Clash remain the ONLY band that matters.

@@kiezersosay49 Thanks . 100% True . I met many bands and so called rockstars while working at that studio . None of them could hold a candle to Mick . They never meet your heroes , which I agree with on experiences . Mick is one of 3 or 4 exceptions .

Can’t say I remember hearing many ‘trained and polished’ singing voices in the U.K. in the late 1970’s. We must have been hanging out at different venues…
The Clash played a gig I organised in Amsterdam (Joe had been a big fan of my uncles band, so I used that connection to persuade them…). Mick was the sweetest guy. So down to Earth, friendly and helpful. Listening to him talking about growing up in his grandmothers flat was very poignant. He also had a great musical ear, eg giving someone advice on changing the time-series to completely change the feel of a song without changing anything else. I loved the guy.

Mick Jones is one of my top heroes of rock and roll- he had it all in spades - the look; the sound; the rhythms and arrangements; his own killer showcase tunes; and he was way ahead of his time in bringing able to blend so many influences into the Clash’s music- huge influence in my heart - when I was 12 way back in 1983, I had a really cool black Clash t- shirt; which said the Clash

Totally agree! He's one of my favorites, too. Such a cool guy, and dare I say... a little underrated?
@@ReliableRocker I think the whole band is a little underrated; many people think of them as the ‘punk’ band that played Casbah and Should I Stay/ - they don’t know the massive collection of unique and incredible songs this band had in their catalogue.
However; there are many - like the people commenting here - who know them ‘ as the only band that mattered “ ( at least from say around 78-82 ) :) - the Clash were just so cool 😎- right ? They were an incredible rhythm band; all the way from Janie Jones to Atom Tan- they knew how to swing and play with passion.
Could not have said it better myself! I wasn’t around during their peak, but they became one of my favorite bands of all time after I started getting into punk. One of the most interesting and diverse bands, especially compared to other punk bands.

Joe Strummer and Mick Jones were equally great. Even though those Clash albums were so political and typical for that time, the music has really stood the test of time. Anyone who listens to those albums for the first time now, will go back for more.
Train in Vain played a lot on rock stations in 1980. Fast forward to 1986…Should I Stay or Should I Go made it onto the first party tape I ever made. Death or Glory was also on that tape. It was the last complete song I heard before getting hit by a car while jogging on 7/27/86. Then, my next roommate in college had London Calling on vinyl. Got married, partied with a friend on Friday nights…listening to The Clash. Saw Joe Strummer a month after 9/11 at the 930 Club in Washington DC. They became my favorite band of ALL Time. R.I.P. Joe. 🍻☮️
I love his solos. Simple, but perfect. Even the short ones. And not just with the Clash.
Growing up in a small country town in Australia, The Clash were not only a fantastic new sound for me, they became my moral compass. The helped me overcome taught racism, sexism and the rest. Ask anyone that knows me, I am a kind, generous caring person, thanks to bands like The Clash.

Nah, great band with a versatile catalogue. You just have to view them as a rock 'n' roll band and not a punk band.
I don’t know what a larper is, but The Clash helped me through some tough times and sparked some of my fondest memories. To me this is what life is all about. 🍻☮️
