Although I can't agree when you say it was sometimes a rewarding experience and sometimes a soul sucking one. It was ALWAYS a soul sucking one :(

The reason that characters from Gateways and Diehard Dungeon are wandering past on the title screen is because all of those games were part of the Xbox Indie Uprising 3 last year.
I feel games like this need something much more. Have the city in the background get invaded by aliens causing you to lose business, and to aid this situation you need to build a training facility to train mercenaries and soldiers which you can hire based on certain credentials to defend the city as well your own buildings. There can be an online multiplayer mode where players can actually play the mercenaries via an RPG-type system. Maybe even incorporate a Dark Souls system of invasions.
You should totally do a Let's Play of Railroad Tycoon 3. Such a great game!
As somebody who's worked at a few call centers, I'm only a few minutes into this video and already want to tear off my own face and mail it to NL.

Worked at a call center for a year, dealing exclusively with telemarketing. Drained my soul, and I was so lousy at it, they had to cut my salary and only give me money based on provision.

The police was unable to identify the man,as all of his belongings were destroyed or stolen by his co-workers

Damn, I got 'Mad World' stuck in my head now.
The game strongly reminds me of Shop Empire 2, a fun but free flash game. The idea in that one is to build malls, but the design and style is very similar imho.

I much preferred Corp. inc. It had a lot more charm and seems to be a lot clearer with the UI.

I remember working in a call center back in the day. Worst job ever, I prayed someone would come in and shoot up the place sometimes. Thank god the place got shut down with worldcom after they got nailed for fraud.
By looks like do you mean is a near exact copy? I remember playing that game on Armorgames before but couldn't remember its name but yes, this game is VERY similar
