In my opinion, when MLB turned a blind eye during the McGwire/Sosa homerun chase, it lost its position on Pete Rose with me. Baseball needed a shot in the arm at that time and absolutely took advantage of the situation just like the all-time hits chase with Pete.
Betting as a manager is worse than betting as a player. As a manager, there are things you can do to hurt the team long term, like leaving in a pitcher too long, etc. As a player, if the player only bet on himself to win, there is no way to sabotage the future for the current game win.
I think he should be in and I think he’ll get in eventually. Betting in sports has opened up much more recently and unlike 1919, baseball and sports no longer have a bad reputation when it comes to betting. I think the league will eventually realize this and lift the ban, but I think that’s only if betting on sports is allowed federally because then the morality of betting no longer is bad.
The instant MLB signed contracts with FanDuel and DraftKings, they lost all moral authority to keep Pete Rose out of the game. And Pete Rose bet on his team to win. He wasn't putting up all these prop bets that you see when you turn on MLB Network to watch a game.

However, once MLB signed a deal w/the MGM Grand Sportsbook and allowed teams to sign local deals, their opposition to Rose's candidacy was rank hypocrisy. Put him in. Plus, Bonds and Clemens.
The problem with this point is Rose broke a rule where he knew what the punishment was. It's not like he made a mistake one night and placed a bet on his team. He placed hundreds of bets on baseball for years. Pete Rose kept doing that knowing if he ever got caught he would be banned for life. The poster boy was Joe Jackson who had a Hall of Fame career too. What more did Pete need to see to know what would happen to him? Just because baseball signs a deal with the MGM, that doesn't mean they are saying "ok players go out and bet on our games now." First of all - people need to realize we are only talking about an official declaration and bust of Pete Rose in the HOF. Pete is in the HOF in many ways: His bat, uniform, pictures during record-setting moments are all in the Hall. I say NO - he cannot be officially let in because he broke a sacred cardinal rule - in which all players know full well the punishment if they break the said rule. With that said - none of the steroid fools should ever get in - for the same reasons.
@@TheSacred55 It was clear. It was The Cream and The Clear. The problem though is there was no rule permanently banning anyone from baseball for doing them. I'm not saying they should get in, but Pete's rule definitely says he can't get in.

He didn't make that claim. He said he believes he bet as a player but there's no proof. So he made no claim. He only knew that he was making bets through the same bookie. The funny thing is though, there is proof that he bet when he was a player. Other peoples' issues are not the items that should be the basis of what gets Pete Rose in, but they are good points on what should keep people out. David Ortiz never broke any rule that states you will be permanently ineligible and either did Babe Ruth. Pete Rose did break a rule that states that and the way he handled the entire mess (that he created) has gotten him to where he is today...outside of the Hall of Fame. Now go and do your research on Simpson, Ruth, and Ortiz and get your campaigns going to get them out.
MLB didn't celebrate him throughout the whole thing. He couldn't even get a job even though he could still hit better than 85% of the league. At worst case, he'd have been a great DH for the last few years of his career in the AL and would have gotten to 800 hrs. No one seemed to make as much noise for Bonds during that time but somehow Pete Rose is still a story 30+ years later for doing something that clearly states you will be out of baseball forever.

@@danielcorreard3746 It doesn't matter if you bet for your team to lose or win. It compromises the very credibility of the game. He's not getting in, so this argument is pointless.
He is the Hall of Fame. Stats don't lie.
i think the unspoken reason pete is not in is that they had evidence he bet against reds and part of the deal was mlb would never make it public
I like the way he says "looosee" forgettabout it!
I remember my grandpa saying "let's go down to Riverfront and watch the Reds not bet on baseball."
PETE ROSE H.O.F
We're not talking about Joe Jackson. He was a player.
Absolutely
Shoeless Joe Jackson needs to be in the Hall of Fame before Pete Rose.
As soon as Baseball partnered with Sportsbooks...they BOTH should have gotten in ! Along with deserving members of the "Black Sox" like Eddie Ciccotte ! Talk about hypocrites !
Put Pete in the Halls Of Medicine. Remember those commercials?
Now that they having betting machines in MLB stadiums, he should be in!
The rule is posted in every locker room and Rose knew it. Gambling nearly killed baseball. Disagree about Rose wanting more money by not getting in . . . He wants in, his playing more than deserves it . . . but I agree, he doesn't get in until Joe Jackson does
Pete Rose would have made alot of money as a Hall of Famer. The Hall is going to put in Garvey and Rose after they die, perhaps Luis Tiant.Remember clean boy image with Garvey, the Hall voters will never let him live it down!!!
Pete should, with an asterisk. Same as Roger & Barry.
First of all - people need to realize we are only talking about an official declaration and bust of Pete Rose in the HOF.
Only difference is Bonds and Clemens never failed a test and were never suspended so people are just guessing without proof
@@TL2354 oh it is a lot more than just guessing my friend... The evidence is clear
@@TheSacred55 It was clear. It was The Cream and The Clear. The problem though is there was no rule permanently banning anyone from baseball for doing them. I'm not saying they should get in, but Pete's rule definitely says he can't get in.
Wow, thanks for this inside info
Then there's should be very few player in the hof. Everyone is on steroids for the last thirty or so years, and still a great many guys before that.
basically pete already is in the hall of fame his glove bat and cleats are already in so he is basically in the hall.
Yes for hall.U can ban him but hof is a difft thing. He was a hot player put him in
All three will eventually get into the hof, but posthumously,
Yes.
Pete Rose should have been immediately reinstated the first time MLB was televised on a Bally Sports network. To pretend they still care about gambl...We interrupt this post for a word from Caesers....gambling is just a frigging joke.
Patrick just stated that Rose bet when he was a player, but there isn't any proof. So, how can he make that claim?
He didn't make that claim. He said he believes he bet as a player but there's no proof. So he made no claim. The only claim he did make during that part of the clip was that he knew Pete was making bets through the same bookie as his. He didn't say he knew Pete was making baseball bets though. He only knew that he was making bets through the same bookie. The funny thing is though, there is proof that he bet when he was a player. The proof came out in 2015 when they disclosed a notebook with bets of Pete's from games from the 1986 season.
Yes
If Pete Rose, isn't in the hall nobody should be in. Period
Rose broke Baseball's unbreakable rule! He should never get in the Hall of Fame, PERIOD!!!
So Pete Rose f'd up and thus you want to punish everyone? This is why our leagues need commissioners so they can do the right (sane) thing.
Oj Simpson, murdered two people he's still in the NFL hall. Babe Ruth, was a very known RACIST he's still in the hall. David Ortiz, tested positive for PED'S and he still got in. So baseball has it's dirt for sure so we can go on and on guys do ur research!
@@terenceturner8201 This is a case totally about Pete Rose and no one else. If you want to start a campaign to get OJ Simpson out of the NFL Hall of Fame I'd be all for that too. If you want to get Babe Ruth out of the Hall of Fame for his racism, then start that campaign too. If you want David Ortiz out for his steroid use, then go ahead and start that campaign.
They always have a "but" for, Pete Rose. The only guy who defends him is, "Mad Dog"
Mlb celebrated bonds throughout the whole thing.
Let them all in. Who cares at this point.
I like Russo, but he looks like he’s coming off a bender here. But the man knows his baseball.
Awww poor Pete he had to buy a ticket to go to the game like the rest of the fans. Poor guy.
Yes Yes Yes
Leo Dorcher beted on games as a manager
Pete Rose will be in the high baseball Hall of Fame when he dies he’s been penalized from baseball for life the penalty will be over with when he dies then he’ll go into the Hall of Fame
Go home. Tell your kids there are no more rules. Do what ever you want. No more rules.
@J I was quoting Johnny Bench. one of Roses ole teamates
I thought Joe Jackson was a lifetime ban ..? 🧐
PETE ROSE NEVER TOOK ANYTHING TO INHANCE.... HIS GAME.... HE BELONGS IN THE HALL... HANDS DOWN
He broke the NUMBER 1 rule in All sports, no gambling. Do you realize the damage that can do to any sport at any level!!!
Inhance? What is that?
Mad Dog with the boomer angle
Put Pete in!
No, he doesn’t deserve to be in the Hall. We probably only saw a small portion of what he bet on.
Listen, Houston Astros kept their 2017 rings. Baseball is TAINTED (to put it in perspective, baseball is BROKEN). Pete Rose is a HoF. The stereoid era players should go into HoF then. Reinstated the status of Shoeless Joe. When I see justice served when Astros removed from the 2017 championship, then we talk about JUSTICE (Note: for the record, I am NOT a Dodgers fan).
They've got 100 things in baseballs hof so they should take everything down if the committee feels like that Next to ty cobb to get a single I ll take pete and manny Mota to bat lol
Gwynn is first for me. Raked every year.
Russo is to political , not honest. Pete Rose is top 5 in Baseball History. Hell never go in because of the pro sports hypocrisies.
I don't think Reggie bush(bush didn't cheat he took what was offered to him and now college athletes get paid....so Should he get it back now that times have changed...yes...same with pete....both school and hall of Fame profited from both players. give them their day)should have the Heisman taken anymore than Pete should be in the Hall of Fame. Now everyone keeps moving the goal posts to convince themselves Pete doesn't belong in the Hall. Assuming he bet as a player because he did as a coach is irresponsible. You don't know. Can I assume coaches made less than players because they do now. When in the past most coaches made more than players in the past.
People Pretend That Pete Rose Committed Some Brutal Crime by Betting on His Team as a Manager and Should be Banned for LIFE from Hall of Fame...Why?...Because of What Some SIGN says in a Locker Room?...Grow up and Get off Your High Horse
Nope..
Knew the rules and he knew if he broke them he would be out..
He bet as a player
Dan is so soft
Like Charmin.
Shoeless Joe, Rose, Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod - in. Baines, McGriff, Rolen? C’mon.
Oh but rock raines was just as good as Tony gwynn, of not better, war tells you that. Just like abreau is just as good as Vlad. You don't believe it, look up their war. This is why these types of players are making the hall. Because of a flawed stat like war.
Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes , Yes , yes, yes .yes, yes!!! Baseball is the toughest sport to excel at the major league level there is so much competition. The difference between the best player in the majors and the best player in the minors is so small. We need heroes that played their hearts out. Gambling never affected Rose's play not even 1% negatively. Chewing tobacco is a lot worse.
You can't put theses guys in steroids guys and gambling guys not goid for the game
No! He cheated and lied.
Nope.
@Mr.Brenman21 if your religious, doesn't the Bible say you should for give??????

Baseball is the only sport not to have their greatest players in the HOF…also Patrick just another crooked guy in a suit who knows nothing about being a professional athlete
come down off your high horse
Rose will get in the Hall of Fame but he'll never have his day in the Sun 🌞
Doesn’t matter if Rose didn’t bet his team to win or lose he gambled while active. He knew the rules and was an AVID gambler. He himself took this lifetime ban
If Pete bet didn’t bet on the Reds when certain guys started or faced certain pitchers then it’s giving a bookie the hint that he doesn’t expect to win
Bingo
Yup. N if he owed, the bookie might wipe some of that clean for the added info of having him on the books as a better.
