Incredible video thank you. I had a 2003 CRF230F and I loved it. I did the Hagon rear shock upgrade actually, and had the front forks damping rod system redrilled and customized for my weight and riding style (By Bruce's Suspension in North Carolina, about $300) . My God did that make an awesome difference to this bike. Everything got way better. Everything about the bike got better to ride. The next step after what I did to the forks would be exactly what you're doing here in this video. Those RaceTech cartridge emulators are an incredible value and they are just as good as true, modern cartridge forks, for all intents and purposes. They work so well I'd say this emulator upgrade is absolutely mandatory for the CRF230F, and then the Hagon rear shock, and then if you're still using regular motocross style tires, then toss those pieces of shit and put on a set of Tusk Gummy Hybrid tires ($100 for front and rear together) and run them at a really low tire pressure (like 9 psi front, 7psi rear, so use heavy duty inner tubes). That will DOUBLE the amount of traction you have, switching to those fat, wide, gummy, low-pressure tires. You won't even believe how awesome the CRF230F is then.
Thanks. The stiffer fork springs with RaceTech emulators and XR250 shock with reservoir was a great combo, it worked well for me, but now with the CR150R forks along with Race Brothers shock, it is now taken to the next level, it’s soooo good. With the new motor mods, (bigger bore, cam, carb, valves) I almost broke into the top ten at the World Vet championships at Glen Helen last week (11th) racing against several brand new 450s in the novice class. Complete install and race videos to come.
@@lowbuckgarage1 That's awesome! I look forward to watching your other videos on the CRF230F, starting with the XR250 shock swap. That's really interesting. It also makes me happy that you swapped in the CRF150R forks. Those must be incredible. Isn't it just magic when you get a bike's suspension dialed in and tuned for your own weight? It's a whole 'nuther ball game. And congratulations on finishing 11th at Glen Helen, running against 450s!!! My God 450 dirt bikes are fucking insane and shouldn't even be sold to people. They're so dangerous; most people have no idea. They're so powerful you basically never really have control of your motorcycle, and so people end up getting hurt all the time, and racing slower on them than pipsqueak "girls bikes" or "play bikes" like the DR200 and the CRF230F.
@@lowbuckgarage1 Huh that's really interesting they tire so quickly. Makes sense though. A person can only stay 100% focused (like when you're about to crash any moment, on a 450 death machine) for short bursts at a time. It makes sense that in an endurance race, peace of mind and being able to be centered become super valuable.
@@r0ckworthy Exactly. Gabe (see Torture Test magazine- RUclips) Just placed 3rd this weekend at the Glen Helen Ironman 24hr race on a modified crf230f. He just uploaded the sneakpeak video yesterday.
I’ll be doing another on the CRF230, some inexpensive HP and suspension hop ups and replacing a bunch of heavy steel parts with aluminum. Then on to the Shadow VLX project and then the Mustang.
Most everything I get is from EBay, used, or Amazon. That would be a long list! I’m thinking of new video with that list, and everything I’ve done. On 3/26/23 I’m uploading one about pegs, bar relocation, wheelbase, and rider cockpit.
Thanks for the video! Can the RACE TECH emulator & stiffer spring allow a heavier rider on a CRF230 to do jumps and practice on a non-racing motocross track?
I weigh about 190, an intermediate - Vet racer and yes the forks are MUCH improved. However the rear shock.....I'm almost done with a another video installing an XR250R shock on the 230... MUCH MUCH improved now!
@@lowbuckgarage1 Thanks for the reply! Maybe a stiffer rear spring and RACE TECH (with the upgraded stiffer RACE TECH Forks) can improve the shock well enough for vet MX. Please post how the XR250R shock does on the 230! I'm personally (about your size) interested in this because I want to get started MX and single-track, but I only have street experience. I also like the low-maintenance CRF250F engine and I don't care about winning races. But I also don't want to bottom and break the bike
@@dr.x4050 I just got a 250f and order race tech springs the emulators and the custom g3 shock all set up for motocross so I do plan on sending this thing and using it as a training bike so I dont slam hours on my 10k bikes theyre just too expensive to be using for training drills
Far as the CDI box is concerned, does your aftermarket one remove the Rev limiter? I'd be fine with a hotter advance, but I'm always pinging off the limiter, I'd like to keep that if possible.
They allow infinite fork dampening adjustability, something the CRF230 had none of. POSSIBLY allowing the use of stock springs for a lighter rider, and YES!
If I had to choose between the emulators or just springs, I think I’d choose the emulators. They can really help with the bottoming and almost infinitely adjustable. But then there’s the rear shock… I’ll be putting out a video soon, putting a ‘95 250R shock on the rear.
An instructional video with a flaw in the instructions. The word is "damping", not " dampening". They are damper rods, not dampener rods. To damp is to induce friction. To dampen is to add moisture. Your shock absorber is a damper. Your garden hose is a dampener. Want to adjust the dampening on your bike? Wash it.
Thanks, and you are correct SiR! All these years and I never payed much attention to the word damper. You have an ear for detail. I checked in the dictionary, just to be sure, and you are indeed correct. My next video for lightened flywheel, advanced flywheel key, adjustable bar risers, and larger XR carb for the 230 posting soon. Thanks for watching.

What size PVC did you use and how long are they?
PVC was the same diameter as the spring, I didn’t think to measure. Length 2”

Mine does not have a limiter, not good. I’ll be replacing it with one from Big Gun or BBR.
what kind of fork springs did you upgrade to? please reply!!!!
BBR springs. I’ve since then installed CRF150R forks, haven’t had a chance to test yet. Video coming on that soon.
What front fork springs did you get?
BBR they have the best deal, there are more expensive ones like Progressive and Race Tech but BBRs were good for my weight of 180.
What do those emulator things do and where they worth it.
