"Pitching to Contact" and "Pitching for Swings & Misses" EXPLAINED

This week we cover the two big pitching philosophies "Pitching to Contact" and "Pitching for Swings & Misses." I don't really like using these terms much and I explain how they can sometimes be used to categorize pitchers unnecessarily.

Remember the twins won it all in 87. Bert Blyleven was a crafty veteran with a good curve ball. He had an excellent defense behind him. Kirby Puckett could climb the fence and rob homers. Gary Gaetti solidified the infield, and even called a pickoff play to get Daryl Evans at third base in the playoffs against Detroit. Pitchers like him could scatter 7 hits with only a couple runs allowed, because they knew they could get double play grounders.
