TheGirlonfire25 “Generality” is the word he used. He was talking about what he didn’t like about La la land and Greatest Showman. They were talking about Dear Evan Hansen initially.
True. I actually got to know dear Evan Hansen through “Only Us” and was rlly excited about the play and getting to know the characters who sang the song cuz I thought it was the sweetest love song I’ve heard in a very long time only to find out that it was all a big lie. Nothing in the song even hinted at what’s actually going on. But I guess it works for DEH since the whole story is built up on him telling big lies, so that fact that it sounds so real and genuine is more unsettling i guess? (I can’t say the same for La La Land and The Greatest Showman though). I still think the songs would’ve been extra great if it just showed more of Evan’s internal conflicts.

This is clever. In fucking up and displaying vulnerability and sharing her anxiety, she captured an element of the actual show.
I've only recently become aware of Lauren but I'm so impressed by her here. The way she starts out slightly nervous to imply she's out of her depth. The faked sloppiness as she starts doubting herself. The expert timing as she starts interrupting the song. The emotional outburst and then the slow revelation over the last verse as she decides it's about ghosts. And then tagging it with a midwestern accent as if she couldn't do whichever one she wants. Really a superb performance.
Plus I really like the song.

I think one of the funniest, most meta things about this is that she literally went to school with Pasek and Paul. There's next to zero chance she hasn't seen it. I guess the more surprising thing is that she, nor anyone in Starkid so far as I know, so much as had a chance to guest in the show (then again, Darren apparently was never able to get any of them on Glee, either, so....). It's a damn shame, because they all deserve to be stars.
I mean there’s like one scene in glee with Joey and tessa in it but they are extras😭
