Putting aside any and all factions, Birnham hill soldiers and secret agents that can somehow widdle significant fire in the vacuum of space recurs a lot
By telling their story, the Martian agents were revealed to others of the crew. The ship would be too low on fuel to make a return trip to Mars. The item in the case was a decoy.
Michael Ledford yeah but people still weren't total idiots- you don't tell a random overly curious stranger the most important covert op of your time, directly after doing, it when you aren't even out of enemy territory. In no time in human history would that be considered not stupid.
@@colemarie9262 U say most people were not idiots...but that's untrue. The further back in time we go, the more ignorance and superstition (and evil Right wing ruling elites) control society through scaring and manipulating DUMB people. Left leaning people are educated and think for themselves. Right wingers all hate thinking for themselves and enjoy hating who they are told to hate from evil oligarchs and war profiteers. (I have 3 degrees and am doing a 3rd, more u know, the more left leaning u become).
Why in hell would they tell a "random civilian" details like that? People that stupid don´t get picked to do black ops. And don´t give me "it was written in a different time", because it was written when "loose lips sinks ships" was still in firm memory and the red scare was a real thing.
Fuckyou Liberalscum ummm no.... we're allowed to discuss a work of fiction, it's part of living in a relatively free society and a normal thing for people with brains. Judging by your username you may not have any concept of critical thinking so I'll try to explain- The comment isn't criticism of the channel providing the free fiction, it's a criticism about a sci fi story, which as a genre has always been intended to to challenge norms and cause the reader to think and discuss. This one has a major flaw in plot, maybe deliberately and maybe not. That's a matter of this thing called "discussion", which usually in adulthood doesn't involve swearing or temper tantrums, lest the other person consider you an ignorant, anal, uneducated or badly mannered man-child. OK? Ok. Now you can calm yourself down.

I'm sorry to say I gave the story thumb down. I think the story was well written and I enjoyed it very much, until the end. The end was poorly thought out and lacked any creativity. I just hated the ending.
These science fiction short stories were published in bulk magazines. The authors sold their work under the condition that they would be limited or edited to a length that would fit in that current issue. Oftentimes, the stories were chopped by editors so badly that readers thought that the next issue would contain the continued story. This is one of those fated stories.
I have just discoverd Philip K Dick. I am a lucky man. Great stories.
Do you have a favorite so far?
Mars has really gone down hill, since 1954 :-) Good story, well read :-)
This is more like history than fiction in some ways

I love this reader
I agree his voice fits well with these sci fi stories.

I hope people realized most of these short story's were written in the 1940's - 50's when science wasn't as advanced as now .
