If you want to know a horror fans sexuality all you have to do is ask them which Nightmare on Elm Street movie is their favorite, because you might think this is a hot take but legitimately every single one of my gay pals thinks this movie is the absolute bomb
Sorry to disappoint you but I'm straight and I still think A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is one of the best,I thought the gay themes were pretty blatant even as a child watching the movies for the first time at about 8 or 9 years old.even the main character being a man instead of a woman I thought was "code" for this guy's gay as most gay characters or even fellow kids I knew in school were camp or quite feminine and you knew from a very early age.
That's real f****** funny as the original base for a Freddy Krueger was a pedophile that kill children but they had to change it because of the recent events in California at the time
"Does anyone want to go to a Gay BDSM club with me?" The last time I answered yes to that question I ended up at 'The Church' in Dallas. The night was great until a woman had a seizure on the dance floor (to Du Hast) landed on me and ripped my knee out of the socket. She was fine (thank the gods). I popped my lower leg back in place had couple drinks, stumbled home and didn't walk without crutches for 2 months. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
reminds me of a time I looked up the gay club my friend was gonna have a party at, and the top review said "I got stabbed here. The drinks were nice and the food was fresh but I got stabbed. Would consider going back."
NGL, there's this one scene in the first movie that REALLY got me as a kid. One of the boys got pulled INTO the bed and got blenderized. Naturally, I had trouble sleeping and trusting beds for a while. I mean, if you can't trust physical barriers to protect you, especially one you're supposed to rely upon EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, what CAN you trust? *_W H A T I F L I O N C L I M B T H E T R E E ? ! ?_*
Nah guy. You're not alone. That's still the best/worst death in the series, and that includes when Freddie turns into a snake and eats someone. Don't trust bed.
I almost ignored the video, because I saw the title and thought "I've already seen Renegade Cut's videos", but then I looked again and thought "oh, it's May's take", and clicked on it.
When you made that video where you called Sleepaway Camp "Fight Club for trans women", I kept excitedly shouting, "OMG, That's NoES 2 for gay men!" I had no idea you could hear me and frankly, I'm a little embarrassed.
The film's use of oppressive heat to slowly crank up tension is fantastic and that transformation scene is magnificent and probably one of the best sequences in the entire series. The Freddy makeup is probably the best looking of all of the movies. I think slasher fans in general and Nightmare fans in specific overlook Part 2 because it didn't have enough kills, which is a shame. I remember watching it for the first time as a (basically) straight high schooler and I thought it was pretty damn cool.
For the second time you have pointed out a key element in a movie I missed which makes the intention much more cohesive. It changes my opinion on the movie to the better. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
Drinking game for this episode. Easy Mode: Drink whenever the camera gets closer, or when a clip from a movie is shown. Suicide Mode: Take a shot whenever the word 'gay' is said aloud.
I love your intro, it's well shot and like..very recognizable as your intro, iconic, if I hear it the serotonin hits and I'm like yeaa it's spooky time
I have a gay friend who dislikes horror movies and didn't know about this movie and didn't believe me about how gay it was. Linked a compilation of gay scenes. Was told this is one of the gayest movies ever.
Yeah, the second one is the best. I would say that it hints at a much more interesting mythology than what they chose to follow up on in the other films (Except for "New Nightmare" which appears to actualize a lot of what this one hints at; that Freddy is not just some criminal that became a dream monster, but is a monster that took the form of a criminal).
I think May could probably convince me of anything. Her persuasion skills are off the chart. She makes a video about how "the gay" nightmare on elm street movie is the best one and then she talks about it and it's like yeah... this makes sense actually... Iconic.
I really gotta rewatch those first three movies. It's been a while since I've seen them. Especially the second one because I was in a much different place when I first saw it and I've discovered a lot about myself in that time frame.
Freddy Krueger, everyone's favorite child murderer. Even the goofy ones have some cool kills. I love how the most panned second one has gotten all this love for it now.
These movies were a huge part of my life but I've always skipped the second one. I watched them WAY too young and I was terrified of Freddy so the idea of being possessed by him was WAY too much. I'm finally going to watch it now! Thank you!
I've only seen the first one (I like it, but I'm a Halloween girl), I've seen a bit of the.. I think it's the third one (the one with the Dream Warriors), but the second one.. holy hell, I need to see that one!! I do remember reading about this film; how the director and many of the players involved didn't perceive it as being gay, that the lead actor wasn't out at the time (but I don't remember if he felt uncomfortable with the film), but like.. how can people who worked on this film who say the didn't know, not know that this is gay?
What are the main movies you watch around Halloween times? Love your videos, May. Been watching for years now. Hope you are keeping sane during this stinky quarantine. 💜
This movie is super gay and I knew it right away but I love it (1-3 are my faves). I’m straight as a ruler but being sexually confident I don’t have any problem with gay themes lol Also “Call me by your name” was made in my city
Hands down, BEST one. This movie has so much richness. It's the most creative & abstract one & personally I love that. Its so subconscious. I love Mark as Jessie, he's perfect 💖💖💖
This is my favorite Freddy movie, and even as a straight cis female, I never understood why it was considered "gay" (let alone bad). Thanks for explaining and putting it in a whole new perspective for me. 🤘
Honestly, you are the funniest horror content creator I’ve seen and I can’t get enough of your personality! I genuinely look forward to every upload you make, and I feel like you deserve way more subscribers for what you do. So just know that I have a lot of respect for you when I say that- your opinion is fucking wrong and part 6 is the gayest because it sucks the most dick at portraying Freddy. Prove me wrong. *Mic drop*
I love your work Mae! I'm going to go join your Patreon. I can't wait to see what you do next (as long as it doesn't leave you traumatized.) But I love what you do otherwise.
Wow! I started watching your content when I was in middle school and for some reason dropped off at some point. Im in college now and stumbled across your channel again! Super happy to see you have self actualized and hope you are doing well :)) Thank you for making dope content
i love the hive mind connection that all gays have lmaooo i don't even have the desire to watch any elm street films past the 2nd one bc it slaps so hard :')
I wasn't really paying attention when I clicked and the thumbnail for this video looked like one of AreTheyGay's and was very confused to hear your lovely voice instead
I can’t believe you don’t like the first one! But I do agree with you on the second and third one. You should watch New Nightmare. It’s really good too.
I saw this on VHS when it first came out and even back then the subtext deeply resonated with me, a little 10 year old gay boy. It didn't help that I had the biggest crush on Jessie at the time.
you have a talent for making me actively want to watch movies, and incidentally a talent for making me watch youtube videos longer than 10 minutes. absolute legend
Had the absolute pleasure of seeing this movie at a festival and hearing the director talk about it afterwards. Interestingly enough he said that he wasn't really aware of any gay themes while making the movie. He also discussed how having a sequel to a popular movie at the time was mostly just to squeeze the studios a few extra bucks and therefore while making it they weren't really too concerned with how the movie fit in with the original. I think that actually made it possible for the movie to be such a unique addition to the series (and yeah the freddy logic isn't exactly consistent but i dont care lol) and not having to think about the possible future francise opportunities actually gave this movie the freedom to do its own thing in such an interesting way.
Naw, I gotta agree here. I unironically adore the second Nightmare movie, and it's definitely in like my top 3 favorites. I found it in the bargain bin at a local store for under a fiver, and you know I had to snatch that shit up. It's super gay, and super fun, and I just adore it from start to finish.
I'm glad you also just kind of think the Nightmare franchise is okay I encounter few people who seem to be chill with me when I say I just find it okay
As a lifelong fan of the series, Elm Street 2 was a film that I took a bit of warming up to, but as I grew older- and realised that whilst I have no fucking idea what my sexuality is, it sure as shit ain’t straight- I’ve learned to enjoy it a lot more. I’d hesitate to say it’s my favourite- I’m split between the first film and New Nightmare on that one- but it’s a very interesting film. And I’m genuinely really glad it’s been getting this sorta reappraisal in recent years. (also, re: Freddy cutting his way out of Jesse and the Doll Headed dogs are iconic and I am very glad you correctly agree) I will say though I have a very special place in my heart for Freddy’s Dead: The Final Friday. Not because it’s good by any metric we as humans could possibly understand, but because it’s just... such a fucking fever dream from start to finish. In an entire series of films that’re Pretty Weird at times, it is by far and away the weirdest, most disjointed, arguably most high concept, and honestly though a lot of what it does falls a little flat I kinda sorta love it for being a fever migraine made manifest on celluloid and though it has nothing really to do with this video I just needed to voice that thought.
Could you please please make your live streams as a permanent video, I was moving into a new place and missed both of your live streams and am dying for more of you content. Lots of love and best wishes xoxoxoxoxoxo
I have fallen asleep watching the first Nightmare on Elm Street many many times. Because that's the movie that my brother and I would watch that as our nap movie when we were young kids 😂
The only "Gay Nightmare" is waking up, and not having a power-bottom demon in my bed 😔
Brush that's everyones nightmare sleeping alone sucks
mine is not having a power top. hmm

As for deaths the 3rd is my favorite. The fact I wanted to be in that bedroom with the 2 hunky guys made the 2nd one not very scary.

Easily the scariest Freddy design of any of the movies.
"I don't believe in irony; irony is cancelled" is my new 2020 mantra
It took me almost a decade and multiple watches to realise how gay indeed this movie was.Underrated and under-appreciated horror sequel honestly.
