Thanks, Blackie. Great idea, beats the heck out of typing knots in lines all the time.
Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia, thank you for time to make these videos.
Blacky! You're an excellent teacher💙
Thank you! 😃
Innovative; creative; economical; practical; & good stewardship of the environment. Excellent & clear explanation. Thanks, Blackie!
Good stuff, as ever! To add a failsafe to an existing setup, insert a loop of #9 bank line, or even mason's line, between each grommet and its guy line.
Using plastic coat hangars is 👍👍👍! Good stuff! Thankee!
yep i was looking for plastic rods or somethin then i saw it in laundry room and my light went on
What a great, simple, and inexpensive solution!
I love your toggle tip. I put a toggle in the middle of your twisted soft shackle and tied the ends. It works great
Thanks Blackie, love the use of the hangers.
Always a pleasure to learn something new. Thanks Blackie.
Simple enough and should last a lifetime.
thanks for watching
H Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos, muchly appreciated thank you.
You are very welcome
Awesome once again! Now I need an excuse to tell my wife where her hanger went ! 🤔 Thanks Brother!
Right on
These are some greatly appreciated sensible ideas, Mr. Thomas.
thanks and please just call me Blackie
I appreciate your detail in presenting this DYI project. I have everything needed for this project at the house. I’m going to build out five of these tarp steaks, with the bank line and toggles attached this weekend. This tip is going to make a quick tarp or poncho setup to beat a rain shower much better. Nothing worse than fighting with steaks, cordage and knits when trying to hurry with a tarp setup in the rain. Be safe and have a great weekend.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, Blackie! Thank you!
Love that idea!!
Thank you! 😊
I actually prefer the stakes made with a big nail and plastic widget on top.
Just like carving toggles from artificial Christmas trees…have fun stay safe.
I seen a guy use those little bungee cords that come in those sets from walmart and other stores, they use the red ones with the ball on the ends to make a bungee guy line, they stretch and save the corners of those tarps.
Blackie this is simply Great, ty
simple and easy thats the way i like it
I put bungie cords at the tarp, then line to bungi, it gives to absorb the shock of the wind
true
I like that idea! (She missed the hanger, we know how many we have LOL)
lol
I used some 3/8" dia delrin back when you first shared this idea. It has worked great! Thankyou. No more messin around tieing knots!
thanks for watching
I've been using a method similar to this for a while. Definitely. Have to add toggles to mine. Will, bring it to the next level.
Please do!
Brilliant! I’m going to make up a bunch of these.
Thank you Blackie, good idea with the toggle.
No problem 👍
Brilliant, Black. Bankline is much cheaper and replaceable than a tarp or poncho, so a sacrificial breakaway "joint" is a great idea. Love the toggle idea and crafting them from a lightweight, plastic, coat hanger would never have occurred to me. The bottle cap idea might be great in some parts of the country, but I live and usually camp in rocky areas that necessitate some sort of hammer and very sturdy stakes (that doesn't negate the concept though!).
yep in rocks some hammer or hatchet is the way to go
I’ve done something similar using wood dowels. I first saw wooden “dog legs” by an old timer almost 65 years ago 😳 I was too young to understand their usage but over time I was around enough guys who were using them and taught me about them. I would bet that they’ve been used a thousand years or more. I have actually noticed them on chuck wagon tarps in some Charlie Russel paintings.
yep dog legs did work well back in the day
Blackie, here you gave us another genius idea for bushcraft! Thank you.😊
Great idea of putting the line on the peg instead of the tarp. I use light bank line too but instead of cutting a coat hanger, I use those plastic kitchen blocks out of DIY stores 🏴
good idea
GOOD ONE BLACKIE, THANX
my pleasure
Good video Blackie, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
same to you
Good instructions.
Great idea using a toggle made from a plastic coat hanger. When I camp for a week or more in one spot and want to be comfortable. I use a heavy duty tarp (20’ x 30’) that have metal D-rings every yard. I place a pole in every D-ring and secure it with a guy rope that I made featuring a slide toggle for tensioning, a spring tensioner that is attached to the rope and a crimped loop of rope attached to the other end of the tensioner and to a large sand peg. No pegs come out and the tarp never has ripped.
Love this, I'm doing it, thanks.
hell blackey thats awesome
thanks
Great idea with the toggle. I have tried using bank line with the same stakes. However, my eyes are older and I kept tripping over the line. Had to go back to orange paracord so I could see my guy lines. Still think the toggle idea could work for me. Might need a thicker diameter piece for the toggle. Thanks
Small diameter pvc pipe can be used as well . I often scrounge or upcycle needed or wanted items
correct !
That's a good idea, thanks
thanks for watching
Great idea! You’re right about the tensile strength overkill of 550 cord too! I’m done with it for tarp setup, thanks to you! You saved me a bunch of bulk and weight in my kits! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome set up. I’m putting these on my tarp and poncho stakes tonight.
great!
Very good. Thanks
your welcome
I wanna see those toggles on the ridgeline pruisics please sir.
will do in up coming video
I like it.
thanks
Like the idea very much. One question. Is there a way you would recommend adjusting the line other than pulling the stake and winding line on or off before restaking? Thanks for sharing.
Excellent! Just sent you an email on a slight variation to consider. -caboyer
i have put line on my stakes, but just left bowline on the end, didnt put toggles. I also used 36 bank line cause its what i had. May get some smaller line and switch it out
36 will work if ya got nothing else
😊
thanks
👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Excellent!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Blackie, great tip! I'll have to make some of those. Thank you. I was wondering what # Bankline are you using ?. I'm guessing it's smaller than the #36 ? I'm not too familiar with all the sizes. I just have #36.👍🏻👍🏻
Late reply, but I believe Blackie is using #18 twisted and tarred bankline for this.
