I got to see him in Madison WI in 92 and he was great. Still listen to him a lot. My only disappointment was that he stuck note for note to the album and didn't rock out or jam at all. That spontaneity is why I love seeing artists play live music.
Wonderful find, I realize now the college mate that gave a tape of this album back in 88 was gifting access to something new, and my kind of music. I really enjoyed it and have been a fan over the decades. Took me a moment to realize the added spaciousness here is because the Memphis horns are missing and missed.
Did you catch that from johnny? "Thanks a lot, Bob." In reference to Robert Cray being a white label of the name. Ha!! Old school rules came from old guys like Johnny Carson. And there's nothing wrong with that!!
The man is such a Legend. If there was any justice in the world, he’d be talked about with the rest of the greats in the Blues.
Some of you may disagree with me but I believe that Cray is in a class by himself and better than Clapton
nobody sounds like this guy

This was April 15, 1987. I was in the audience that night. Became an instant fan!
Bob Ueker was first guest.
Wha?! That's wild! - can't say I'm not completely envious. That guy is just the best.
That's what made me buy his album
what a voice.. remember first hearing him on mtv in 87... he was the real thing to all us guitarists back then
Robert Cray was my go to in mourning the loss of SRV.
What a guitarist
Best blues man out there.
A mio parere uno dei più bravi bluesman moderni
Smooth as. Bass, drums, keyboards and of course robert cray laying down a grooooooove. No backing tracks to be found anywhere. Pure live.
Robert Cray knows the blues what a voice ........!!!1
Visto 2 volte a Milano,veramente magico!!!
That’s the best performance Johnny ever had on the Tonight Show and Believe me I saw them All!
Love Robert Cray
Good good stuff here. I love Robert Cray!
He is the real deal heart and soul
Karma ❤
He came to the Auditorium Theater in Rochester NY in '87 for this tour and the show was totally insane. Every song on this album was fantastic.
His best álbum, so fresh....
I saw this line up in Australia in '87. I was blown away by the whole band.
Saw him live in KC a few years ago, awesome show. Thanx Mr.C.
Now she can have the house and she can keep the car! I’ll be satisfied sitting in this funky little motel… I’m so mad I can’t stand it!!!
Even better than the recorded version, as brilliant as that is
The moral of the story is we reap what we sow.
Pure classic from a great artist and musician
Strong persuader is the album name, that include the song.
always liked Phone Booth
The song is Right next door (because of me)
clear, kool. live..Robert Cray back in that magical decade
When I first heard of Robert Cray it was on live recording on Pbs he has smootg rnb vocals with killer blues chops.

I'm surprised Johnny let it happen
oct 29 2020 you just made my day.
Someone forgot to raise his mic stand
If you watch all of his videos, He leans into the mic in all of them!
@@83roadstarYeah, he’s always been super specific with his set up. It’s no accident.
Isn't that Ritchie Hayward (LF) on drums?
The might Thor, David Olson, may he rest in peace.
It's fucking phenomenal but the keyboards are too loud
Did you catch that from johnny? "Thanks a lot, Bob." In reference to Robert Cray being a white label of the name. Ha!! Old school rules came from old guys like Johnny Carson. And there's nothing wrong with that!!
Huh? Robert’s nickname is “Young Bob.”
Fantastic that he came out as trans recently.
Not true! Troll!
