- But what design will I go for? Fitting a new roof to a 2CV could not be simpler, so enjoy watching me make a right meal of it. The roof was fully paid for and supplied by matts-soft-top... as the last one survived 16 years, despite my abuse and lack of care.

I’ve been wearing my Hub Nut beanie in this recent chilly weather too 🥶 Re the disclosure at the end, the price seems entirely reasonable considering it includes the glass rear window. Looks a quality job too.
Any fuel kno that Redroof is in Cornwall...not Waeils.......Nice roof ! My Dyane one was quite plasticky and maroon in colour. I used it in the first position regularly, but rolled right back was for very hot days only. I never had a grille muff on mine...maybe the heater might have worked a bit better. I didn't even know there was one in 1977😂

That roof is certainly festive and lively. Wonderful job. Save the old roof so that when you need a new one they can reinstall the rear glass with the stickers on it. Just a thought. Have a nice day riding around in your wonderful Ellie.
Given your self confessed laziness the "white" stripe will look very tatty very quickly.
New roof looks much better 😎 you could remove the glass from old roof and swap it over on to new roof it's not a hard job and you get to keep your stickers . Plus you could continue the white stripes down the boot lid would finish it of nicely .
Let's not distract him any further from the path of righteousness eh old chap? ;-)

It is easier to peel the stickers off with the aid of warm air (hairdryer) and reattach to new window.
Obviously it wasn't going to be a red roof...you'd have to be in Cornwall to fit one of those 😂😂😂

Looks excellent, but it does make you realise how much the paint has faded. Although, not anything like as much as the old roof!

I LOVE ELLE. Which of the roofs is correct ? The narrow striped roof or the wider striped roof. Both look great. Also can you keep the old back glass or do you have to get a new window ?
Neither is a stock roof design. She would have had plain red from the factory.
It looks great. I'd like to buy one some day. I want one bad. Do you have an idea of prices ? I'm sure it depends on condition. Nice driver, doesn't have to be restored. Just not rotted out. Love the NEC Coverage. I would have went nuts over those cars.

Marvellous, Ian. It does, however, show up the lack of vibrant red in the body colour ... and it'll only 'colour-accesorize' again, I fear, in about 15 years or so, when time and weather have done their thing with the roof. Alternatively, you COULD repaint Elly as vibrant as the two-tone roof cover ... just suggesting ;) Amazing how easy a 2CV is to work on: technology in human-friendly practice. Most cars now could do with just some of that!

You know sometimes getting an unusual car can prove ..."shall we say trying!" access, tool limitations etc... personally I would cut and run with the Fiat! i can only predict pain in the future, maybe go with Mrs Hubnut`s choice and try a Ford ...pre 1980`s of coarse! I would love to see her face if you turned up with an old Cortina estate! something very unloved that you could transform into a family runabout and for events, the Fiat is....umm...was very exciting but through your videos I could see enthusiasm dropping like a stone! I was the same in the 80`s when my much loved BMW 2.0 auto went Pete Tong and the whole rear suspension collapsed! we are with you all the way!
Couldn't you just use rubber tap washers for those screws?
Scotty has its winter kit on now; tyres and hardtop. Also got the Pektron alarm module back from Technozen. Been using Wiskey's one (and its EMU. They have to be paired), because of the rethink with the engine bay fan, it run all the time the engine is on. Ok for Summer, but not for Winter. Hope to get that done this weekend.
Elly just sulking / jealous due to other cars getting all the attention... responds to some TLC...

spray with the stuff you spray on canvas walking boots - should work a treat. Tap washers would work under those fixing screws. And by the way, I knew Wendy quite well. Great lady for 2cv bits

As you moved round and revealed the new roof from the front, the accordionist in my mind started to play (with, of course, a Gitanes hanging off his lip). Stereotype, much? Lovely to see a tinkering video again.
Nearly fell off my chair laughing when he removed the boot lid!! These cars are so basic and simple....no fancy stuff and electronic gizmo's to go wrong.

Very pretty. Just goes to show: you buy a lady a new top that fits nicely and she's so pleased, she just purrs. Oh, and Elly is quite unusual in wearing a nose covering when she comes OUT of a confined space...

Of what cosists the treatment in order to keep it in good shape? Is there something to do to prevent a bit more the rust on the roof bars?
Oh and that Citroen rear strip is very very nice. Never remarked it before. Very nice touch!
Oh and don’t bother about your so said errors. It is totally fine and also cool that you show how you tackle things. It is totally normal also, just as I do, to start assembling something with least of parts disassembled. The fact you disassembled the rear seat is nothing to be ashamed off. Glad you included that! So is life hey.

Excellent little tinkering video, roof looks great on Elly. And the Grille Muff adds a little bit of a face to Elly as well.
Injectors can be DIY cleaned in situ, quite easily. Numerous RUclips vids showing how, check it out.
Hood looks great, pity they don't make them acrylic like caravan awnings. They would be a lot easier to keep clean and wouldn't need waterproofing. The muff would look great if it was a mustache shape 😀 or had teeth 😬
Give a car some care & attention and it'll come back in spades. Please remove the hammer from the boot-Elly will think you're threatening her! Excellent video Sir
Great intro. Most of us are just as lazy, if not quite so honest with ourselves. It's a testament to the quality that it has lasted as long as it has. With some patience, IPA and a fresh scraper blade, you could probably save that period sticker and refit it with some clear double sided tape. Save the green canvas and make a pair of Elf ears for the mirrors.

If you missed the bit at the end that mentions Elly's Croatian Adventure, I can recommend you watch the series (I just finished yesterday). After an inauspicious start, this "little car" really comes through for Ian, to the tune of a 3,400 miles road-trip!
I’ve watched Ian’s Croatian adventures with Elly numerous times now. My Mrs and me loved them , and what shines through in them is just what a great down to earth bloke Ian is . We’ve met him twice now at Hubnut socials - he’s one of the nicest and most decent welcoming fellas you could ever hope to meet. His partner Carly (check out Miss Hubnut’s channel too) is just the same . Just lovely people working hard running a great channel which is going from strength to strength …

You should put a Tesla model 3 driveline in the 2 CV and get 0-60 in 3.5 sec! That would give a million views on YT.

I think the new roof looks positively jaunty! 2CVs always seem to have that carefree seaside feel to them, and I think it suits her. How can anyone not feel a bit happier after seeing the little car? I was a little concerned at seeing a partially naked lady's muff, but hey ho. I always did like a French girl that was a little bit dirty. Enough double entendres, that seems a very reasonable price for the difference it makes. I wasn't expecting it to have a new glass window too. Good start to the week.

Matiz injectors... when you've got them out they may well have little filters set into the top that you can remove and clean. Her indoors' Hyundai had silted up injector filters.
She is catwalk ready. Very fetching. Proudly wearing my triangle of doom T as we speak!
Ellie's looking very smart now - you can hardly blame her for being mildly recalcitrant with the old one.

Well done, Ian. That looks terrific. For those screws, it looks like the screws themselves are stainless and in great shape. If it is just the washers gone bad, appropriate O rings or washers should seal quite well.
Thank you for doing everything wrong at first. Now I am confident that I will be able to figure out how to attach a long roof to an early 2CV.

Alternative to the hammock style parcel shelf make something from steel, which you can mount speakers on. Rests on a 'tang' welded to the back of the rear seat.
Brilliant. My mother had a green 2CV as her first car in the 1970s. Pity the floorpan rusted out and it was swapped for something more conventional.... She still misses it even today!
Clown's nose and ditto roof - not sure I like it Ian. A matter of taste I guess. Anyway, a bit of TLC made her engine start!

I enjoy your ongoing relationship with Ellie. I never knew about 2cvs until your channel bit I have put driving one on my bucket list.
The gentle application of some heat from an hairdryer and those stickers should peal off the old rear window and can be reattached to the new one. Ask permission from Miss HubNut first if you do not wish to spend time in the doghouse. Ellie now has go faster stripes which I doubt will make any difference to her.
