Do Your Own Mosquito Control

- Don't pay those company's to do your mosquito control when you can do it yourself. The cost of the machine is basically equal to one year of mosquito service. I live in NE Arkansas and I can tell you that we have some of the worst mosquitoes anywhere in the world due to the massive amount or rice fields in the area. With these sprayers you can almost eliminate the mosquitoes completely.

Thanks for posting. Don't worry about all the haters, they will always exist.
MIght want to check your label and PPE again. Under the PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS section in the label for Talstar P. IT states.....All pesticide handlers (mixers, loaders and applicators) must wear long- sleeved shirt and long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves. After the product is diluted in accordance with label directions for use, and/or when mixing and loading using a closed spray tank transfer system
(such as an in-line injector system), shirt, pants, socks, shoes and water- proof gloves are sufficient. In addition, all pesticide handlers must wear a respiratory protection device1 when working in a non-ventilated space. All
pesticide handlers must wear protective eyewear when working in non-ventilated space.
That's verbatim from the label and the LABEL IS THE LAW.
Excellent DIY video. We pay $70/mo for about 8-10 months a year here. About a one year break-even. Bought a Stihl SR450 for $650 from the local dealer, and that thing is a rocket. Thanks again!
Willie - What metering setting do you use for the spray ? I just got my SR430 yesterday, can’t wait to take it for a spin this weekend. I’m going to use a Demand CS/Archer combination.
$350 for these all day long now. I got a stihl for that
Hope the neighbors appreciate this
I paid about $700 a year for mosquito and tick control; then did the same as you, bought a Makita mist blower. Now I have full control, even do my parents property.
Don't pay attention to those Safety Sally comments. Great video and info. $90 per application in my area for professional application.
I use the chemicals he has and put in my pull behind sprayer with a wand too. They work. But I'm not sure if its 3 weeks if it rains a lot.
I charge $99 for general pest control and a monthly mosquito treatment here in College Station TX.
Ecospherehs.com
In regards to all of the safety comments, both of these chemicals are approved for use indoors even in kitchens specifically. Both of these chemicals even state that respritory and eye protection are NOT required in well ventilated areas. They do recommend taking contaminated clothes off and washing your skin afterwards. I usually take a shower after I spray just to be safe.

44stevenson cool! I was in Jonesboro last week
But it is actually more dangerous when it is in a fine mist
I find it interesting that's how you interpreted the SDS.
Now we use one guard and that’s it lol has nyguard in it IGR . Also helps with fleas and tics!
Great video!! I just bought a tomahawk 14Liter tank with the talstar P liquid... Should I mix 3oz of Tp to a full tank of water🤦🏻?? Ughh
Hi handsome. Oh my God you have a great set up , your yard including your neighbors are well treated. I agree just buy your own tools and professional grade medicine and spray. Great job.
USE A SURFACTANT ALSO!!! Some ppl call it sticker. It makes the product stick to where ever you spray it and increases your residual effect
Heard dawn dish liquid is good, what do you use???
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I just ordered my fogger. Gets here on Wednesday. Northern MN here and Mosquitos are known as the state bird in these parts! Used Cutters for years but it's just not the same anymore. can't wait to see the result of this. Roughly how many gallons per acre? I have 3 and need to get enough juice
My guess would be 2-3 tank fulls depending on how heavy you spray. I would start with 2 tanks. The tank holds 3 gallons, and you mix the chemical 1 oz per one gallon
@@44stevenson appreciate it brother!!
The chemicals you really need is: BIFEN, TEKO, STICKER, IC3, STRYKER.... That's what we use at Mosquito Joe's! Shhhhh don't tell anyone I told you.
nice!
Everything all mixed in a single round or any of those?
Your comments sucks

Please make sure that you are wearing a space suit under your level IV body armor inside of an armored truck that is parked behind 3 panels of bulletproof glass while mixing this product.

Great fogger lesson, friend. Firing my Cardinal up tomorrow for the first time. Bye skeeters. OT question, whats the grass ornamental in the front of your house?
Not sure what the variety is, it was here when we moved in

No way would I be spraying that without a respirator. Also, I'd suggest walking backwards while misting, not forward. Walking forward you are walking directly into the spray. No way.
make sure you wear a respirator and research how hazardous those chemicals are. get the proper respiratory protection device. even if you think you are staying upwind, you will still breathe this stuff in and long term effects are unknown. this is how cancers can begin, by exposure to these types of chemicals, why risk it.
I love Solo for my apple trees and mine is not as nice as yours, but would this work with a propane fogger? I understand you are not professional, but it sounds like you have done a lot of research. That Solo 451 is crazy cool, and it would be a nice addition for my apple trees using a different product, but it is a little on the expensive side, so, for now, I will continue to use the sprayer. Great video!
I've not used a propane fogger but at quick glance, I see absolutely no reason that it wouldn't. I've even mixed up some of this solution in a regular spray bottle and if mosquitoes start nesting up in the corner of my garage by my door then I spray that corner and then the problem is solved! That might be a good low cost alternative to the full sprayer rig!
Check out the new sprayer comparison video ruclips.net/video/4lS_8F73_nk/видео.html
How does this compare to the propane foggers? Also, recommend safety glasses while filling, not fun getting splash back into the eyes!
That's so much cleaner than thermo fogging. How bad is the smell? If any?
No smells at all
How much was spray
How much was company going to charge
Can't hear/see the chemicals
Check out the new Mosquito Sniper System. Its a fraction of the cost compared to the Solo 451 and it uses the leaf blower that you already own!
Interesting, looks like a good low cost alternative.
@@44stevenson I initially watched your video which taught me how to start DIY spraying. I just didn't want to spend the $800 for the Solo. So it got my ideas going and eventually came up with Mosquito Sniper System. Just went live in April and its been great!
@@Mist-Pro that is an awesome story! I'd be more than happy to do a review for you this summer.
@@44stevenson Really!!! That would be awesome!! I appreciate that! Ill send you one at no cost, I mean your video got my idea going so its the least I can do! Email me your name and address at contact@mosquitosnipersystem.com and I'll send one out right away. Also let me know what system you want. We have 4 different ones that attach to different tank sprayers. Our number 1 seller is the system 1 for the home depot tank sprayer. Its a nice affordable tank sprayer.
Great video! You actually inspired me to do my own mosquito and bug spraying. Just picked up a backpack sprayer similar to what you have. Quick question... how fine is the mist that you are spraying?
It's a pretty fine mist and a lot of it. I usually use the smallest output setting
44stevenson Thanks for the quick reply! Much appreciated! Looking forward to getting this all started tomorrow.

Hey, I bought bifen i/t and cutter.... I have a deck in backyard... do you recommend spraying deck down too for mosquito control or only grass areas and bushes/ shrubs? Also do you recommend mixing cutter with the bifen in my chemical sprayer or only use bifen alone in the sprayer at its recommended dose?
Thankyou
I spray around and definitely under my deck and anywhere else that is shady like corners of the house or eves also. I'm not personally familiar with those chemicals so I can't answer that. I would check with wherever you get them from. Dropping a new video soon of an amazing new sprayer that is inexpensive...
How well did it work for you???
You should have gone with a Stihl. I have so many problems with solo blowers. I have 3 of them. Straps break all the time. Broken starter pulleys. Takes forever to get parts if they are out because they have to come direct from Germany. I have 2 Stihl blowers and LOVE THEM way more than SOLO. Sorry Solousa.
I didn't know Stihl made these, good to know. I haven't had any issues with mine at all. I know you can't yank on the starter cable like you do most small engines because of the high torque starter
Your video is the exact bit of information I was looking for. Can you PLEASE, write down the name of the chemicals you use. I went to the site you recommended and I am having a difficult time locating them. I am a new subscriber, thank you in advance.

What an idiot! You need to wear approved ppe!
I bet, he is not in california, ag department will get you good, with an application like that, no PPE, no labels on the equipment, and who care about the drift going into your neighbors, that's a minimum of a suspended license, heavy fines and yes neurotoxin will eventually get you, they call it not acute but chronic poisoning ( google definition of chronic poisoning) and you'll see what they mean
Make sure you wear latex gloves when mixing the chemicals along with goggles and a mask when you're applying the chemical. Exposed skin needs to be washed immediately.
Please note that the label states that you wear personal protective equipment such as long pants, long sleeves, gloves, protective eyewear and respirator or comparable mask to decrease inhalation risk. People should never do this type of service without those items as the chemical is potentially harmful in liquid for whether through absorption into skin or inhalation. I would rather pay a professional than take shortcuts and harm myself in the long run.
lily Powers As much as I agree with you on protecting yourself, I just want to mention that I've seen a guy from the company who professionally does our go without a mask! So although I would never be that stupid, it hasn't killed him
Read the label on both chemicals and it specifically states that you only need mask and eye protection when in a non ventilated areas.
Yet
lily Powers you’re a snowflake
Our "Professionals" who apply (used to apply, we are doing our own now...) every 4 weeks, the same chemistry to your yard - wore zero PPE equipment. Nothing. That was the case for two years. I never saw a respirator nor even safety glasses used with these products. Gloves were worn to do the mixing, and that was it. Surprised me. I ordered a 3M respirator/organic gas cartridges and will use those and some safety glasses. The chemistry is the LOWEST rated on the safety scale. "Warning".
Not being responsible enough and not having the knowledge needed can actually make your situation worst in the long run. Mosquitoes will become resistant to chemicals which in return, those chemical over a period of time will have no effect on the population.
So this can be used as a leaf blower as well?
No, it doesn't blow hard enough to be a leaf blower. It has very low gearing.
What about polinating insects and so on that you don't wanna kill.

how much is this sprayer? And why not an electric one?
About $650. I just bought this one based on recommendations at the time. There are definitely a lot more options available these days
@@44stevenson ok thanks! I'm going to look into it! Great Video btw!
These sprayers can almost eliminate the mosquitoes completely? How much did all that stuff cost?
$900 up front, chemicals are about $150 a year
Does this stuff kill bees? Tempted but would prefer not to kill the little life bringers
Yes it does, so be careful near them
Honestly, I know that they say that they might be "safe" but when you're mixing and using that sprayer you should be wearing a chemical respirator, safety boots with chemical resistant rubber material, and a suitably sized coverall
Great video. Thank you!

If it rains? Do you have to do it again.
No it holds up to the rain
So many problems with this video, you didn't follow any of the PPE on the label. This should be a what not to do video
Then make one.
Just wear Tyvek coveralls and disposable facemask, discard after use and never suffer from mosquitos again. BTW, Amazon has backpack sprayer for < $200 #Winning

Please wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt and at least gloves. You should also get a respirator. The respirator is not required but long sleeves and pants are required by the label. The application you just made was illegal. You can do it yourself but you have to follow the labels including the PPE section.

Can you do this weekly?
You could, but you don't need to. On the low side it's good for 4 weeks, up to 6-7 weeks still effective
@@44stevenson ok. I have a guy come here and he sprays for $60 but it only lasts a week before I notice the mosquitoes again. He says its supposed to last 3 weeks
Talstar P I believe says the full 1 oz per gallon should last about 4 weeks. Obviously your milage may vary based on environment. They recommend anywhere from .33-1 FL oz per gallon.
No gloves or PPE from the label.. no air gap when filling the tank, chemical is in the bottom of neck in the tank. Folks.. there is a reason why applicators are required to have a pesticide applicators license. So far I have seen about 8k in fines. Do not mix or apply like this.. ever!
When spraying chemicals always wear a mask

It doesn't look like you are being safe & taking precautions with dangerous chemicals. I hope you will be okay!
Mary J Russell if you read the manufacturers data sheets on these chemicals, there is no required safety equipment
Yeah it’s funny how he talks about pest-control companies charging a lot! This backpack sprayer is $700 do you really want to spend $700 ? Or would you want to spend $250 for a professional licensed applicator to spray yard for the year? Hmmmmm
Professional application for my yard is every 6 weeks at $80 a pop, so $640-$720 per year. So yes its a big savings, plus I only have to spray as needed.
Me personally I'd do friends and families yards for beers and food. It would pay for itself. Also it would only take 3 years on a return. That's not bad.
TimeforaChange InGovernment
Yeah but in most states when you (going to assume a non licensed - for pest control- person) do a family or friend's lawn whether for free, money or beer you are breaking state and federal law. You can only do your own lawn with general use pesticides . So yeah, have fun with that. FWIW I'm a licensed PCO. Who will know u say? Other PCOs that will turn you in faster than your head can spin. Big fines too.
I understand your point Jeremy though I paid $100/application 5 times a year, 6th time free (October) in Dallas, Tx area for three years or so. I have now done this for two years now at my new house though with a backpack pump sprayer and chemicals and very pleased. Plus it keeps me off the couch.
Hell yes, I would (and will) pay the up front cost for long term savings.
That is a terrible sprayer . The drift is going everywhere.
