I love the scientific approach! Did you however know, that the green top of the kettle with the orange silicone part, can be pushed solid on the kettle? Then you can pour the liquid out convenient, save and it boils way more efficient.
Nice review, I'm excited to see what the future of more effective peltiers will hold for these sorts of products. As for questions, I was wondering about you scattering the ashes from the burnt wood into the lake. My impression was that ashes are nutritionally rich which could stimulate algae growth which is generally considered bad in freshwater lakes. Perhaps the ashes of burnt wood are alright? Hi there Mike. We really hope for even more efficient stoves in the future. The reason for putting it in the lake is so that I won't start any fires. That small amount that was left will do no harm. Have an amazing weekend!
It's definitely a high amount of nutrition in ashes. But it's the total amount being put into the lake, that will or will not make it a nutritional problem. And the few grams that Alexander is pouring into the lake is not making any difference. The positive effect of minimizing the risks of wildfires is much more important than the minimal amount of nutrition being put into the lake. So I definitely think that it could or would be a problem if enough people put their waste ashes into the same lake. But being out in the Swedish wilderness, this isn't a problem. But for sure worth thinking of in populated areas.
Well made video. Short, sweet, and to the point. Just wanted to let you know (if you didn't already) that using shorter charging cables will help improve your charging efficiency. At low DC voltages there is a noticeable voltage drop at the output. I usually try to use stubby cables like the key fob ones off of Amazon. I've found them anywhere from 5cm to 15cm.

Thanks for both the reviews. I just cooked steaks for the family on the grill using wood pellets and it was a great way to make a workday evening feel like the weekend. I haven’t yet hiked with the stove, at least not any distance, as I find it quite bulky in my pack. Also the inner part of the lid has broken on mine, which I suppose I will reorder. Thanks again.
I have a question: I used mine for the 1st time this weekend camping. I found that I was constantly having to add SMALL twigs. If I added something as large a diameter as my thumb, it would start smoking or go out, regardless of which fan setting. I was trying to boil 6 cups of water and I had to constantly monitor and/or add fuel. I could not divert my attention otherwise it would start smoking or go out. Perhaps I didn’t load the chamber with enough fuel to start? It did get the entire pot hot, but it took undivided attention to keep the fire going and keep adding fuel. Maybe I just need to learn the nuances. Thanks for any help.
Hi, thanks for watching. It could have been that the wood you used wasnt dry enough or as you said that you didnt load enough from the beginning. Only time i have had problem with smok is when the wood has been to damp. I always load it with as mych as possible from the beginning and only run the fan at low speed. No that just that you actually used it as intendent and as intendend it dosent work it all. Took this to A 4 day hike. Good thing my mate bought A regular gas stove otherwise it woulda been only cold food

There seems to be a huge difference in the results with charging in reviews from various people. Assuming everyone is upfront about their experiences, quality control may be an issue. As innovators in this niche area biolite seem to have a monopoly. That’s not their fault, but the pressure of competition might have helped maintain a consistent quality. This one seems great but others are getting 6% charge in an hour.
Thats not good. I know that the first model that came out had bad charging but this one uses the right technology. Must be a problem with consistent quality then. Have an amazing Wednesday man!

On lowest fan speed it's not so noicy. It got 4 speeds. On max it really sounds like an airplane and puts to much air into the stove. I use it on the 2 lowest speeds. It can really warm you up. Have an awesome weekend Mats!

You're positioning the kettle incorrectly. The handles are orange for a reason - they should be in line with the power unit. This aligns the vents in the kettle with the gaps in the lip of the stove. This ensures two things; maximum airflow through the stove and the power unit is drawing in the coolest air possible. Maximum heat differential means maximum power generated.

@@offgridsweden Although the three vents of the kettlepot and the three supports of the stove (at the top, I don't know what else to call them) are both 120 degrees apart, and therefore support three different positions for the reasons I listed, biolite's instructions also specify why you should align the handles with the power unit: to keep the handles as cool as possible. Sorry, pet peeve of mine as folks that make videos of this stove always seem to mess up alignment of the kettlepot.

What I absolutely must know before I buy this, is whether or not the batteries can be replaced. Otherwise, this device has a very limited lifetime, which I really hate. I was hoping you'd mention that.
The batteries is not removable. But you could probably open it and replace them DIY style. Havent had any problem with the batteries so far. No degrading in performance. Have an amazing Thursday!

You haven't had problems yet, and if you rarely use it, you won't for a while, but li-ion batteries doesn't last forever. A stove should. I like your channel. Just found it tonight. So, my question is wether even a blue flame from gas could be used to generate electricity with this? Would it be just a matter of applying to the rod? This obviously is more brilliant as a concept for not requiring such a method but at the same time, if someone simply lost electricity in their apartment not due to a natural disaster, but because they couldn’t afford the bill, maybe due to job loss, than they probably would not have a good enough excuse to burn wood in the apartment but could probably get away with a blue flame. I am curious….
Hi, That would work. It's a peltier element that is converting the heat into electricity. Just be careful, a blue flame from gas can be very hot and might in i some cases damage the element. Thanks for watching, and have an amazing Sunday.
It didn't quite reach the manufactures promise of 3 W @ 5V or 4W @ 5V, but I guess your charger thingy consumed some of the power and the fact that you were using damp wood fetched you lower results, still not too bad.
Also you should mention the battery capacity of your phone. 61% doesn't really tell us anything, it could be a really low capacity battery that simply requires a small charge, or it could be a big battery in question which requires a more formidable charge.
Thanks for doing such a great review...I just got the first generation BioLite stove and the pot for it last weekend...I haven't used it yet ...it's been 20 below here in Alberta Canada ..(maybe I should have gone outside and tried it) but this weekend is much better...I'm gonna try the wood pellets and see how long they burn ..I saw a review that said up to 50 min ! That's great burn time without refilling the stove ! I enjoyed your review and will check out your other ones !good job !

the stove reduces the consumption of biofuels and inhaled emissions so it has an amazing benefit to 3rd world countries. I bought it partially to support the company whose mission is truly to make the world better.
@@johnmoore5293 a gasifier or rocket stove with no moving parts is a better choice for most. Biotite has great marketing and lots of people have drank the kool-aid. The truth is their products are not designed to be repaired, they could have easily made the battery replaceable but instead gave their product a lifespan of 3 to 5 years, after which it will be in the trash. If the world is really going to be a better place then we need to start thinking longer than 5 years out.

Do not bring it for a hike. It works with pellets but not twigs its a horrendous product in my 4 day hike experiance
Can one use normal wood pellets? Or do you have to use their BioLites pellets.?
