This is genius Jen! I'm one of those people that always gets overwhelmed with big palettes and you broke it down so well. You have such a great way of explaining things!
I started doing the swatches on the back of my hand before placing them on my eyes after seeing you do this and it’s so helpful! ❤️
Ah that's awesome to hear! I'm so glad it's helpful!!
It sounds like a great tip that i will try for sure.
the first 10 minutes of this video have probably been the best 10 minutes i spent on youtube on makeup
Nice summary and great advice about starting with the lid shade! Purple is one of those colors that can be warm or cool depending on its base. Red-based purples will lean warm while blue-based purples will lean cool. The purples in Bare Necessities look cooler compared to the majority of the other colors there. However, if you put them against a blue-based purple, they look warmer.
This was so helpful, I’m someone who gets very overwhelmed with bigger palettes, I dnt buy them anymore Bc of it!
I would have killed for a video like this when I was first getting into makeup! Such a good idea.
Aw thank you! I love your username by the way! 😍
This was very helpful! Thank you Jen!! I’m always overwhelmed with palettes in general, so you broke it down so it makes it easy to get a look! Thanks!!
What a great tip swatching the colors on your hand to see how the colors look together. I like the idea of matching the eyes to the clothes I'm wearing, it will definitely make everything look more unified.
Came from your newer 5 pallets you like and 5 you don’t video. This is so helpful. Will be swatching on my hand going forward to see if they are cohesive AND because as you know, sometimes colors do not apply like they appear in the pan. Great idea and well explained video!!
Aw thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful!
That helped SO much!! I never knew all of those tips about how to pick colors or to keep them all warm/cool. Please keep making more like this. Thank you!
This has to be the most helpful video ever! I never know which shades to choose, even in my 12 pan palettes!
Aw yay! Thank you so much Laura, I'm so happy to hear that it's helpful!
8 minutes in and you’ve already given me extremely valuable information with color selection. Thank you so much.
I'd love more videos like this with other palettes! It's so helpful to see your process for picking out shades and how to work with a look that isn't what you imagined it would be. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you for going through the tones of the shadows. I didn’t order this palette yet because I felt a bit overwhelmed by the selection of shades. I usually like colorful shadows over more neutral, everyday colors but this will help a lot with all the palettes I have ☺️
I'm so glad you found it helpful! And yes these tips should work with any palette you have! 😊♥️
I LOVE this video! I wish that I could like it a million times! Please make this a series, using other large, popular palettes! This really took the last concern away that was holding me back from buying this palette! Thank you SO much!
Aw thank you so much!! I'm so glad you liked it!! 🤗🤗♥️♥️
Omg this is exactly what I need! Cool and warm have always confused me!
Oh my goodness! This was brilliant education!! thankyou. i almost didn't watch because i am not getting this palette, but when you said people didn't see it, I had to look. Bless you and thankyou for this. i am usually not at all interested in this type palette. Its like "Will i wear brown or brown or bright brown today?", so explaining helps me see it a little different. i am not color blind, but these type palettes tend to be very hard for me. Many blessings!!
Wow, that red shadow really makes your eyes pop!
Thank you so much! I never used to wear it but I heard that it's a great color for blue eyes! 🥰😊
Extremely helpful. You’re really knowledgeable and explain things in a way that’s easy to understand. The looks you’ve created are all lovely. I’m most likely be purchasing this one. I’m a matte lover. How can I not?? Lol.
Thanks, girlie🍃🌸
Hi Jen!! Ohhh yay! Great explanation in cool tones vs warm tones!!!! 😍❤️ wow, the more you explain how you would use the palette and what looks you would create depending on what look you are going for, the more this palette looks more versatile and makes sense to me!!
Thanks Paola! I never know if I get it exactly right but that's usually my take on it. 😊♥️
This subject was one of the original reasons I came to RUclips and could not find a tutorial for this! Thank you!
I save this video to my “makeup tutorial” playlist. Thank you so much, it is very instructive to learn your thought process.
You are so right about being overwhelmed! A great tutorial. I have to start swatching my hand to test drive a trio of shades.
I can’t always just wash off an eye look because my eyelids are easily irritated and can’t cope even when I ease things off with Micellar water and use a lot of eye cream.
your explanation on warm and cool tones was so simple to understand! I usually have a hard time with colour theory, especially with makeup. Thanks!
Thank you for this info!!! I frequently struggle deciding which colors are cool and which are warm. Some colors are obvious but some really throw me for a loop. The way you explained it makes so much sense to me.
Such an informative video. Thank You for making this video and sharing your makeup tips. I like hearing the process you use to create makeup looks. 😃 I love trying difference steps to create different looks.
Thanks Carissa! 🥰🥰🥰
This is so helpful! Also I love how easy and wearable your looks are. I have this palette and will be recreating them all. Thank you so much for being so down to earth and relatable!
Im new to makeup and have been really exploring different shades . I work as a waitress and like to create different looks with my all black outfit.. i would love different lessons like this.. thanks for coming down to newbie world and telling us straight..
Just found this three years later!
Great video!
Thank you!
Yes Jen, this was very helpful and please continue to do videos like this. I have so many palettes and use only 1 color each time, dah! but now, I will follow your steps which were an eye opener! thank you! BTW I love your videos
I think the largest palette I own is the Emily Noel x Revolution collab (The Wants), & I enjoy it & have no trouble creating looks with it because there is such a lovely color variation within it. Even though there are lots of beautiful shimmers in particular in this Colourpop palette, I have to honestly admit that I'd find myself frustrated because it has so many neutrals (brown overload). I guess it's solely from my personal preference of the need for actual COLOR that I would find this palette overwhelming/ limiting. (It's not quite as much brown as a lot of the Morphe palettes, but it strikes me as a bit similar in concept). For those who love neutrals, I'd think this palette would be a dream come true! There is certainly a nice variation within the browns, but if one is not particularly fond of brown, this definitely would not be your cuppa' tea! 😊 I'm so glad that you took the time to explain about how to identify cool vs. warm tones, as I think a lot of folks struggle with that (even those who have been into makeup for years). You explained it in very understandable terms. Much appreciated, Jen! 😊 💖 👍🏻 🌷 🌻 🌹
Fantastic job,Jen. Great cool/warm tone explanation and 3 really wearable looks. BRAVA!!
I love that sweater/color on you!! You did a great job explaining!! I love the looks you created!!! If this helps anyone, another way to think of warm vs cool is to think of the color wheel, blue/purple (grey) are the cool side of the color wheel & red/orange/yellow are warm and green is typically more of a neutral. So if they have those undertones in the color that determines the warmth or coolness of the shadow. ❤️❤️
This video is super helpful!! I really needed guidance with eyeshadow palettes. Thank you!!
Excellent tutorial Jen . Thanks a lot, we need more of those on RUclips ))
Jen ... This was such a helpful video!!! I really like how you broke down the warm vs. cool tones. I like how you gave us some looks. But what I found most helpful was the hand swatching. I did that this morning (swatching the transition color/the outer corner color and the lid color) ... it made such a difference. I even pulled out an old expensive pallet that I always found intimidating and was able to make it work today. Thank you so much for breaking it down and helping me achieve a more pulled together look!
I just found you on instagram recently and just subscribed to your channel today! Love your content!!!
Aw thank you so much Anna Ruth! I'm so happy you subscribed! ♥️♥️🥰
Thanks for referring us back to this video-so helpful! I love, love, love my Stone Cold Fox palette and this tutorial gave me some ideas for mixing up my usual looks. 💕 (Also, living in hot SoCal it was fun seeing the snow on the trees outside your window! ❄️)
Love your eye look, that sweater too! Your new mirror looks great! Great explanation, you are so thorough and sweet 😄
I loved this video! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain your thought process on choosing shades and cool vs warm tones. It was quite helpful to me. Love your content!
I just played with the palette today!! I love that there’s so many options for warm and cool and I love the looks you came up with!!
I'm not sure about other women but all of my tastes changed once I got into my late twenties. I used to have an extremely large makeup collection but have since downsized tremendously and only purchase what I know I will use. It feels like I'm just getting into makeup all over again except that is far from the case. I also picked up a couple of ccolor pallets after seeing you and Zabrena review them and they are wonderful!
Oh my gosh yes!! CColor is the BEST!
I love how you break everything down for those who aren't familiar with color theory and can't just slap looks together! I think I'm going to start swatching to put looks together, such a great idea!!! Thank you for another informative video Jen! ❤️❤️
Great video 🤗
Thank you so much 😉 🌹
The colors are beautiful on you.
Hugs from Denmark 🇩🇰 🌹 🌺
Jen I love how this video came out. I learned so much from this video. I now know how to figure out what’s a cool tone and warm tone. Thank you so much for breaking everything down. I would definitely love to see more.
You really helped so it’s not so confusing
Thanks for the tutorial. Still waiting for my bare palette to ship. Super excited! 💋💖
Great video! Very helpful and I love the camera angle viewing down on the palette. I feel much more inspired to try some of my larger palettes.
Just a suggestion: Could you do a second video with a large colorful palette? I would love to hear your thought process on how you pair colors. Thanks!
Sure that's a great idea! They're much trickier than neutrals! 🥰♥️
I’m so glad you mentioned this video in one of your newer videos & I went looking for it. It is such a helpful video, thank you!
Thank you Jen..Large pallets do overwhelm me..💜
I loved this video!! Please do more of these!! I just love your style of makeup lover/ everyday consumer/knowledge! You are fabulous!! I have been wanting this palette for my business and you casual yet classy looks really work for my style too!! ROCK on Jen!!
Loved this whole video! The looks are beautiful and the walkthrough on how to pick shades to create a look was awesome. ❤️
Always so sweet
Thank you for this video! I usually prefer smaller palettes but I picked this one because I only own 2 colourpop palettes (uh uh honey and I lilac you a lot) and this palette has pretty much the same shades as many popular CP palettes I originally wanted to buy. I feel like it saved me a lot of money and I now have all my favorite shades in one palette.
OMG I LOVE THIS PALLET!!!!! Way better than Stone Cold Fox!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Buying it LOL!
Great tutorial on how to pick what shades to use!!
Dear jen thank you so much for educating how to recognize cool tone and warm tone shades.. Love ya. ❤️
Amazing. Thank you!!! I usually use 3 shades too and I’m simple I want to create a look easily
I would love to see different eyeshadow looks with the Gingerbread extra spicy pallet.
Hi Jen, I found myself not using a large pallet. I don't care for single eyeshadows, or large pallets. I don't know why, it is just my preference. I love your videos. You amazing. Thank you. Blessings to you and your family
This is a beautiful pallet. Blessings to you and your family.
It's so good that I'm watching it again
Always willing to support you Jen! Your videos are the best!
Fabulous and helpful overview of warm and cool tones. Thanks!
I just love this palette so much. Great video, thank you. I love your tip about the eye shadow on hand first. You are so beautiful in lavender . By by from Quebec
This is so informative. I always get confused of what to use.
Super helpful and great video! My palette just arrived a few days ago and I have created a couple of looks but the way you took us through this palette really organized it in a different way for me. Even more excited to use it now, thanks! Your 3 looks were beautiful as well😊👍
All these looks are really beautiful! I love videos like this.
This is so helpful! Thank you! I’m waiting for this pallet to come in the mail! I’m hoping it’s here by the weekend.
This is an excellent video. Not only explained everything well. You also showed us very well. Do more using other palettes.
I loved your explanations. Not sure if I will get this one or not yet. I liked all three looks you did. Very pretty. Love colourpop!! You do the b at swatches and explanations. Super helpful.

So helpful in deciding wat colors to pair together!
Great job. Wonderful instructor!👍🏼
Thank you!! I’ve wanted this and I thank you for delivering it perfectly!
This palette is supposed to get delivered to me any day now and I can’t wait to get it also hope at some point maybe they will break up this brush set into a face brush set and and an eye brush set separately because I’d love the eye brushes but I don’t tend use brushes in my complexion application ☺️😊
I was thinking the same thing. Would love a eye brush set. Have enough other brushes.
Omg thank u soooo much for this i swear i struggle soo much with pickin shades from large palettes could u try doin this with one with more varied colors to help lik the through eyes or a juvias place pallete
Such an amazing idea for a video! Can't wait to watch!

Really enjoyed this tutorial. Could you do another with Stone Cold Fox??
Thank you... That was very helpful! All three of the looks are beautiful!
Your video is EXCELLENT!! Wonderful explanations. ❤❤
So incredibly helpful, Jen! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for this, Jen - as always a thoughtful, helpful video. I’m looking forward to my palette arriving! Would you consider doing a similar ‘look’ video (even if not a full-blown review) for the Tati Beauty Palette? It would be great to have your take on it :)
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! It is sooooo HELPFUL!!! I’m saving it for future reference 😍❤️💄
Loved the video Jen , and loved your sweaters ! :)
Thank you for explaining everything 😊
This was a huge help - thank you 🙏🏻 Rx
I loved this video! So helpful. I’ll have to remember to try swatching on my hand next time. I’ve been looking at the BYOP shadows and trying to do a similar 3 shadow color combos in my mind when picking out shades. I have an old empty quad from elf that I may use to create my own trios or quads to see what works nicely together.
Thank you for that Jen, it was definitely very helpful.
U are the best Jen, thanks for sharing your tips 🥰
Love the palette
Great video as always, thank you Jen!! Love love ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for explaining this so well! Keep creating, be happy and stay blessed!! ❤
I like big palettes!! I feel like you have a lot of options and can always mix!! I think the biggest pain of big palettes is storing them:/ but hey I love a good mini palette too lol
Very helpful video! Thank you. 😊
