    This is why you buy a one story solid concrete house, in an area that has zero chance of flood damage, invest in a standing seem metal roof, and have triple pane windows. I am not participating in this nonsense and have ultimate peace of mind.

    • @allaboutroofing2
      @allaboutroofing2 2 года назад +2

      Sometimes people live in areas that get hail and don't want to move. That's what insurance is for. Also, seamed metal roofs are far from impervious from hail. They get beat to hell with anything over a quarter sized hail hit. Sorry but your suggestion of moving into a new area and buying a brick concrete house is laughable since high wind and hail can happen in most parts of the country. Also, triple pane windows still break, same as double pane and it's usually the frame that totals out a window since vinyl is breakable no matter how many panes you have.

      Yes, it's called slate but is cost prohibitive and requires extra reinforcement throughout the home, largely the rafters . Also a quality laminate shingle in class 4 can take up to golf ball sized hail without damage and many shingles have a 130 mph wind rating as well. Mother nature can be brutal tho and once the hail gets big enough, all bets are off. That's why we have insurance and pay big premiums.

      I have the unique position of being involved in the insurance industry prior to becoming a roofing contractor and I can tell you that the insurance companies are far more crooked than roofers. The reason why they're being sued is they are intentionally denying claims that should be paid and/or shorting the payouts. Years ago at a huge seminar for farmers agents one of the executives got up and bragged about how they saved millions of dollars by not paying homeowners and rather paying the fines to the state.

They will do anything to not have to pay for a thing... if the roof was assessed and shown to have damage then what is the issue with replacing it? I think a bigger problem would lie if the roofer suggested lying or even damaging the roof to get approval... All that's happening here is the home owner being made aware of what may be available to him as a result of unknown damage. But insurance companies don't want us to know that... or else they would tell you.. 🤔

There is a reason a lot of the "greedy" insurance companies are leaving the state or filing bankruptcy -- it is not profitable. Home insurance isn't a maintenance policy. Roofs needs to be ACV, not replacement cost. Folks use storms as a excuse to replace their worn out roofs. Maybe the insurance companies should just pay the darn claim to begin with! Some like to blame lawyers and predatory roofers, but if the claim is even close to valid, the bean counters and insurance companies need to just pay out, now after the hurricane IAN, we will se how terrible it will be for people to get their claims paid and have the money to pay the full deductible as the new law states. This of course is supposed to be what happens anyway. I have a huge issue when a home owner has his contract(policy) with the insurance company, and due to the new passed law that took effect July 2022, the insurance company now forces the homeowner to show them PROOF the paid the deductible to the roofer or contractor for the repairs set out on the claim. So, and insurance company can now basically dictate what another private contract, between homeowner and contractor says and carrys out. No way in my mind is this gonna happen without huge legal pushback from the homeowners side, we all will see what happens, but when many people do NOT have the money to pay the required deducible, their house will sit and sit, not be fixed or rebuilt. Previously, the insurance company figured the actual damage, what the cost of the damage was, and then DEDUCTED the amount of the deductible, and whether or not the roofer was OK with accepting that amount, is between the homeowner and the roofer, not the insurance company. This just one big issue with the new laws.

    This should be slander! Your insurance company and governor are working together to screw you. If it wasn't for the roofer educating the homeowner on what they are entitled to, the insurance company will, as they've always done, take advantage of the homeowner. They send letters to homeowners threatening to drop them if they don't replace a 10 year old roof, but they won't also say in that letter.. but we could send someone to inspect the roof and if there's any damage from a storm, we will help pay for the new roof minus your deductible. And so, homeowners don't always know better and then pay out of pocket for their new roof, in fear of being dropped. Shame on the governor and the insurance companies who are taking and trying their hardest to not give back. You pay for insurance. You are entitled to file a claim. Also, a storm is an act of God, and ethically shouldn't raise your rate. This is pure propaganda from the insurance companies, who are not doing as they promised when they signed you up. File your claim today! Don't let your insurance company or governor cheat you anymore!

    • @allaboutroofing2
      @allaboutroofing2 2 года назад +1

      I agree, however it should be looked at by a qualified roofer prior to filing a claim. There are minium requirements to qualify, most require 6-10 hail hits per 100 square foot for full replacement. I'd also encourage homeowners to be present during a roofer inspection and either get on their roof with them, or watch from the ground since outright fraud and roofers causing damage to get over that threshold isn't all that uncommon. There is nothing wrong with the text that the roofer sent in my opinion tho and the insurance industry is crooked as hell, often intentionally shorting the payouts and requiring contractors to fight to get paid what they should have. Example, state farm wants roofers to reuse pipe jacks and drip edge even tho a pipe jack last 10 years and a roof can last 30 and drip edge has nail penetrations from the removal of the old roof and should be replaced in most cases. It's not right to not pay for something that is routinely replaced on a roof and won't pass inspection if the roofer tries to cut corners since they aren't reimbursed or it takes months to get the difference from insurance. If roofers didn't advocate for homeowners, the insurance is off the hook and only allow a year or two from date of loss to file a claim. Funny how insurance is trying to play the victim for homeowners filing a claim. It's not fraud to ask for the insurance benefit you pay so much for. I recently asked a State farm agent why they weren't paying for pipe jacks and drip edge in his response was because of a lot of roofers were collecting the money and not replacing them. My response was so because of a few dishonest roofers you're punishing the homeowners by underpaying the claim? He didn't have a reply.
      P.s. I now record my entire inspection so I am not accused of anything fishy. I once was accused of fraud on a roof I had never been on since I was contacted the day prior to the insurance inspection which I attended. Also, about 70% of claims are shorted one way or the other by insurance and requires software that cost a couple thousand dollars a year to prove it to the insurance and justify what should have been paid. Never trust your insurance company to do the right thing.

      More like multiple storms over 15-20 years, which they've NEVER filed a claim for.. The average homeowner doesn't know the damage that any one of those storms caused, unless it were an obvious one. There are those damages that go unnoticed, and then turn into bigger problems in a year or two, storm after storm, making it worse. Does the insurance company call you after a storm hits and asks how your roof is? That would be some service... You pay insurance each month for years. People, stop being brainwashed. It's simple.. know your coverage, and find a reputable contractor to help you. Sure there are scumbags out there, but get referrals and find someone that will guide you through the claim process, so that you know what's going on AND is your best shot at getting approved. Insurance companies won't help you get approved. Ask them? See how far that gets you. They glady accept your monthly payments, but they'll find anyway to deny you, if you leave yourself open to that. Especially, those homeowners who don't really know how to read their policies and know what they are entitled to.
