When I was a kid in the 50's, we had a coal fired boiler system for steam heat in our house. The coal truck would come weekly and dump coal into the coal shute that went into storage in the basement where it would get fed into the boiler as needed.

@@MemoryLN Nearly 70. We had dairy products like milk, butter, cream, cottage cheese, bread and eggs delivered. Our house didn't have the milk door you had in this video but, we did have a heavy galvanized steel bin that sat on the porch where the delivery man would pick up empties and deliver the fresh products.
My grandparents owned a farm and had cattle amongst many other farm animals. They had their own fresh milk. I remember helping process the milk when it was brought in, it would get pasturized then separated with a hand cranked separator. When I was there I somehow ended up being the operator. Then, take the cream and put it in a churn with some salt and make butter.
They carried over a lot of habits they formed during the depression. Today, they'd be called preppers, LOL.

@@Telecolor-in3cl I didn't but my dad took care of all that. I remember the ash being a big mess when it needed emptying. For a kid, the basement was a dark place we didn't want to go.😆
