Yeah it is. He brought that up in a QnA session at Harvard in 1994. He says also that he would have thought of a better name if he were to make one up.
These Weird Al “interviews” have the best comic timing. “Do you mind if I call you Louie the Weasel-Faced Dog Boy?” “...No.” Well-played, Weird Al. Well-played.
There's a movie on Amazon called "The Compleat Al" that has a skit where Al goes to Michael Jackson (impersonator) and asks for permission to parody his songs.
@@ryandt2623 Come on, he adored Paul McCartney and saw being recognized by him as one of the moments when he felt like "he really made it" and he still did an interview with him.
Al's glasses function like a groucho nose, it's a light mask to perform with, combined with the big hair and the busy patterns. A radio dj level vocal performance for jokes that would kill in english class. He is class clown drag's greatest teacher and destroyer of pretense.
1:09 I'm guessing in the original interview, Billy was talking about how people would ask about Santayana that he mentioned in "We Didn't Start the Fire."
I'm guessing in the intreview, Billy was talking about the inspiration for: "We Didn't Start the Fire", which is why he spoke the lyrics, which Weird Al uses for when he asks him to sing it.
I'm a fan of "Big Shot", especially the third or fourth time when Billy says it in a funny voice... "You had to be a biiiig shaot, donchya?", hahaha. Kills me every time, and the song is a banger too.
JAZ when I was about 10-12 years old I actually did think it was a real interview. I fell for it every single time not realizing it was a joke. I thought it looked so real. But it only makes me more curious to see what the original interviews were like.
ALLDOGSGOTOHEAVENNfan 997 I’m sure he has. He approached Joel to parody his song “Piano Man” as “Ode to a Superhero,” and Al always approaches the artists before doing parodies...that is, unless they approach him first.
Hahaha I've never heard of this guy before only watched because someone on the Billy Joel - River of Dreams -facebook page sent me the link....Sooooo funny...hope Mr. Joel has a sense of humour and takes time out to watch this...I'm sure he too would have a little chuckle ....:)
I have to say I really enjoy the interviews by my favorite parodist, fun fact, they are very similar (but independent from for sure) to what Jacek Fedorowicz did in Poland.
@kilgorcjk Well, yeah, Billy Joel was actually a pretty good boxer. His piano teacher also taught ballet in the same place, and so he got teased and bullied because people mistakenly thought he was taking ballet. So, when he was 16, he took up boxing as a way to defend himself. He was on the amateur Golden Gloves circuit for a little while. He won 22 fights, but he quit after he broke his nose in the 24th fight.
HAH, I had a half hour of the 1996 segments including this one recorded from TV when I was 7, hah seeing this intervewiw now bring back alot of memories..AL FUCKIN RULES!!
I've always thought Billy Joel looks like Bill Murray, but not in this picture. I also love his philosophy on child rearing: if you've got unruly teenagers, threaten to sing and they'll shut up. IT WORKS.
Can the collective force of the Internet always keep Weird Al relavent? Like, long after he retires, just never forget the genius of Al Yankovik.
Amen!
It's on my list !!! :)
Ethan Morgan I thought he was retired
Lazy Boi237 not even close
It will never forget.
Billy Joel really is his real name. His full name is William Martin Joel, according to Wikipedia.
Yeah it is. He brought that up in a QnA session at Harvard in 1994. He says also that he would have thought of a better name if he were to make one up.
@@silverman1205 He also says he prefers being called Bill, but "Bill Joel" sounds like a doorbell to him. 😂

“...No.”
Well-played, Weird Al. Well-played.
03:49 And yet he goes on to calling him Willie at the end of the interview. Even without asking permission first.
Now, I LOVE Billy Joel. I've always been a fan. But this interview made me laugh so hard that my drink came out my nose.
Ouch! Hope it wasn't hot.
God damn, this is something that a decent RUclipsr would put out less than 2 years ago... and you dun made it in '96!
I miss Al TV. It was always funny when he'd take over MuchMusic for a day or two.
+JoJo Strine No, the above video is from MuchMusic. I remember watching it when it was on air.
+JoJo Strine Some of these 'interviews' were done on MTV, but this one is for MuchMusic (Canada's answer to MTV at the time).
You should check out Weird Al Face to Face. It’s pretty much the same thing.
@@funkybunko No he started out at much music in Canada..!! I remember watching al tv he would take over much music for a day..!!
I searched “in depth Billy Joel interview” and this popped up
These are priceless and always good for a laugh. He needs to do more!
Saw Billy Joel in concert recently. Still an amazing singer. Still gotta see Weird Al though
I thought Al's plumber was named Paul.
I hear he also had bladder problems and a really bad infection on his toe.
Spooper please you can stop right there. That's way more then I needed to know.
Go to the next window, please. That'll be $5:82.
I got a little bored, so, I turned on the radio.
do do do DO do dodododo do doo doodoodoodoo
So we both just sat there quietly for her sake.
These al interviews are classic. My sister recorded them when we were young watched em all the time hilarious lol
"Plenty?"
"Plenny."
I’m surprised he never did an interview with Michael Jackson
Probably because he got along with Michael. I think Weird Al only did fake interviews with the people he didn't like.
There's a movie on Amazon called "The Compleat Al" that has a skit where Al goes to Michael Jackson (impersonator) and asks for permission to parody his songs.
@@ryandt2623 why wouldn’t he like Billy Joel? I’m sure he respected his talent; one of the best pop songwriters of the 80s.
@@ryandt2623 Come on, he adored Paul McCartney and saw being recognized by him as one of the moments when he felt like "he really made it" and he still did an interview with him.

"When are ya gonna get a real job? When are ya gonna settle down and really seriously think about life?"
"Uuhh...Thursday"
XD
I'm so gonna start using that answer! :)
Totally my answer! LOL! 2nd Tue of next week? LOL
BJ: When're you gonna get a real job? When're you gonna settle down and really, seriously think about life?
Al: mmm... Thursday
Like John Lennon when a fan asked him "when will the Beatles get back together? John " tomorrow "
Billy Joel is a true american Idol, I laughed when AL said take my garbage with you!!!
this was his best interview! hard to believe it is fake
These "interviews" he does are hilarious. I love Weird Al. I love Billy Joel but he's so spoof able
that part with him “singing” we didn’t start teh fire, and then him sticking his finger up his nose, really killed me 😭 XDDDD
Take out my trash!
I love this man.
Al is a great interviewer!
This is the first Weird Al interview I've seen where Al isn't promoting his latest album.
Weird Al is a genius. His parodys and videos are great but these interviews are gold
Al’s humor is ruthless and amazing
Definitely the funniest one of these I’ve seen (haven’t seen them all yet).
I think I’ve seen all of them, it definitely is the funniest! I feel like the Eminem one is second funniest.
“Louie the weasel-faced dog boy.” LOL!
Now Weird Al's gonna start chasing Billy all around the music studio, and Billy's gonna be singing:
"Why Should I Worry"
Billy Joel could be a great voice actor.
he played dodger in oliver and company
claude kim I thought he did a great job as Dodger. A real sly New Yorker dog.
Was that his real voice when he was rattling off random professions?
He was califur from Howl's Moving Castle
Wasn't he on The Simpsons once?
XD
Ahaha. I love Billy Joel. It's so cool to see my two favorite artists "talking" to each other. Or one mocking the other. Either way, it's awesome.
Same

Loving the interviews!
Wow, these interviews are just insane!
Billy wets his bed! Billy wets his bed!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thursday is exactly the day where I'm going to be serious and start settling down.
Billy was using that Ron Popeil GLH spray in the 90’s, looks way better since he embraced his baldness.
Michael Keaton as Billy Joel in "The Joey Buttafuco Story".
I love this interview!! Thanks, Al! :D
I really like these weird al yankovic interviews
I just need Paul McCartney to have my 3 loves together 😍
Angie Melanie, haha literally my 3 favorite celebrities😂❤️ not even kidding!
Al is such a classic nerd. Love.
this is just brilliant
"You can clear the room, by playing Debbie Boone, or crank your ABBA records until dawn!"
" That was another broken record!"
Reading that broke my achey breaky heart.
🤣 Weird Al has always been so hilarious, so clever & entertaining!
Thank you, Al.
and weird!
Billy Joel is THE MAN! (except for the driving thing)
4:19 me desperately asking people to resolve all my problems.
you're the we didn't start the fire guy hahahaha i love it
Thank you, I’m ready to bravely face tomorrow
Billy has always been quick and witty. Funny shit
Trolls study Al's interviews for real life.
Scott Aukerman was so influenced by Weird Al.
My favorite song by Billy Joel would have to be "For The Longest Time," the acapella one.

It sounded like Al was getting choked at the end.
Billy Joel probably knows self defense. 😂
He was a good Amatuer boxer before he became a musician. He had around 23 wins. It was to fend of bullies
When's the Atilla reissue coming out on DAT?
How have I only just seen this XD
Weird al used to start his college radio show by scratching up a Debbie Boone record and he smashes one here.
You can clear the room by playing Debbie Boone, or crank your ABBA records until dawn.
Billy looks great!.
He’s adorable. 🥰
Aww, Billy Joel is so cute! 😍🥰
Agreed. 😍
-When are you gonna get a real job? When are you gonna settle down, really seriously think about life?
-Uh... Thursday!
Al should have asked Billy, "How do you like my song, 'It's Still Billy Joel To Me'?"
Fun fact: Al regrets making that song but Billy loves it, and even preformed it live

I like those kind of video
Tbh i like the new Weird Al era ('98-present)
I like the Iceberg quiz.
Most of it is under the water
Al makes me laugh so hard snot comes out of my nose..
Halfway through the interview: "okay, a couple of quick questions"
1:25 I wonder, in the original interview, what did they ask to make him say that?
Talented.
@Volvagia7 he did. it should be in related videos, titled "Weird Al Yankovic - The Madonna Interview"
cool, now everytime someone asks me when I'm gonna grow up and get a job I'll say: Thursday
billy wets his bed, billy wets his bed
I love the song too
The 'Thursday' bit was very clever.
