  • From Season 2 of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy CHER singing her hit “I PARALYZE“. Cher is introduced by Chuck Mangione and Marilyn McCoo, and following Cher’s performance, Waylon Flowers and Madame perform. Closing out the show, enjoy the Solid Gold Dancers dancing to the SOLID GOLD THEME composed by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle"). This performance aired on July 10, 1982.
A bit of trivia: when Cher was 17 years old, she sang background vocals on Darlene Love’s hit: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”. A few years later, Darlene Love was one of my background singers on the first season of Solid Gold, and then in 2023, Cher and Darlene Love reunited and released a duet of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on Cher‘s Christmas album.

I CANNOT BELIEVE this song was not a HUGE hit- and some of her other "hit songs" are DREADFUL (I cannot stand "If I Could Turn back Time" !). This was written by the guy that wrote Olivia Newton John's hits "With a Little More Love" and I think a few of the "Grease" songs . In fact - this song reminds me of "With a Little More Love" a bit. This song is a GREAT example of writing a song that has "hooks" . he uses MINOR chords & chord changes . The guy KNOWS what he's doing!

Cher is a phenomenon. She has been a part of the music world since she was a teen-ager. She had her marriage and many television series that featured Sonny Bono and Cher, known as Sonny & Cher. She had been married to another music industry icon, Gregg Allman from The Allman Brothers Band. I believe that in her 1970s series that Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. had been guest performers. In the 1980s, Cher got into movies and parlayed both music and acting in theatrical movies. Her full name, I believe, is Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre. She is still making news currently and still a part of the entertainment industry.
The Cher and Darlene Love trivia is very interesting and shows the long length of each in their careers, at least 60 years in entertainment in both cases. It is nice that they both were able to sing together back in the early 1960s and again in 2023. Both have wonderful voices that have held over the years.
An observation of this performance is that this is a rare time in which a "Solid Gold" guest artist had performed an entire song without any handheld microphone, either corded or cordless. I noticed at least one overhead boom microphone that was over the spot where Cher had sung her song. Was it the choice of Cher to not use a handheld microphone or was it you, Michael, as "Solid Gold" Musical Director, that had decided that or someone else behind the scenes? Do you recall over the 8 seasons of the series if any other musical artist had performed without using a handheld microphone? I am just curious.
I had this episode when it had aired. Marilyn McCoo and Chuck Mangione had been great together as co-hosts. The Marilyn McCoo version of your theme song was the first solo version that she had done for "Solid Gold". It had the pizazz and musical accompaniment as the 1981-1982 Marilyn McCoo-Andy Gibb theme version and the 1982-1983 Marilyn McCoo-Rex Smith theme version, for the most part.
As usual, a marquee performance by everyone involved.

Thank you for your kind and informative message. To answer your question about the microphone situation, I really can’t remember. As musical director, I was involved with thousands of performances throughout the run of our show, and the specifics of some of them have disappeared from my mind after 40 decades!

@@bigeyezzzzzzz Thank you, so much for your comments. I understand that you were involved in so many musical arrangements over most of the 1980s era for the "Solid Gold" series. It is easy to forget that these performances were so long ago. Your postings make them appear as if they could have just taken place. July 10, 1982...That is a long time ago. Your musical arrangements were so contemporary then that they still appear to be contemporary currently. There are a lot of those that have come from the Michael Miller Time Machine. As the Solid Gold Dancers did their stuff, the end ctedits roll went into motion, and the voice of Marilyn McCoo soared high into the atmosphere, combined with the entire clip, it was like 1982 all over again. Some "Deja Vu", for certain, at least for me. The songs keep spinning, especially your theme, into nostalgic gold.🎶🎼🎵

I'm looking for the clip of R.O.C.K. in the USA when it hit number 1 and they pulled some random guests up on stage. I'm one of those random people. Would love to see that clip. I believe it would've been around 1987 maybe?

In this centery, such a sound will not and cannot be made, either naturelly or ortificially.

Sometimes our worries can be paralyzing, clouding our thinking. We may feel unable to think clearly and makes decisions. Our minds can be completely preoccupied with worries. We can feel lost, like stumbling through a thick fog.If you don’t use your muscles, they can atrophy. If you don’t use your thinking ablility, you can lose it. So use it or you’ll lose it.Thank you Michael for this reminder of what the title of the song says to me.
