7:56 "I was trying to go somewhere and then I felt like I was failing so I bailed out there at the last second."
That's me trying to improvise on my clarinet!
But thanks for the amazing content you share. I'm trying to get better, and in part it's thanks to people like you.

Thanks for sharing your experience regarding the most important things in the music. I would say it's not about jazz but it's about music and art..

This is something i’ve been looking for from the moment I started playing guitar. You can find lots of lessons about theory but something like this you find very seldom.
Getting the hearing and muscle memory aligned. The hearing was never a problem I could sing a solo but playing what you can sing is the hard part.
Staying in one scale I can relatively play what I hear. But with all those key changes in jazz it does not work for me.
But I never took the time to really do this proces slowly… trying to figure out how to play what I can sing.
I’ve been trying to hear while improvising to which keycenter the song moves but that’s so hard. While singing the improvisation is no problem.
I hope that one day my ear and muscle memory will align! And then I ‘ll probably think of you brent.
    Tnx for this video.

I'm glad you legitimize the composition route Brent. Although I'm not much further in the process, composing solos (for clarinet in my case) really helped put theory into practice at a slower pace and finding my own "voice". Also I've noticed they become part of the "canon" of the corresponding standard for me, so even if I try to improvise, the shape and fragments of the composed solo will often creep through.

This advice applies to any genre -- listen and internalize the vocabulary of how you want to sound, and build up the technical fundamentals to bring that out on your instrument. Excellently framed, thanks Brent!
