MATCH RACE - Quarter Horse -vs- Thoroughbred

- After the first match race in Santa Anita history, John Sadler couldn't help but gloat a bit Saturday.
Valiant Pete's trainer had every reason. His 5-year-old gelding did what most horsemen and handicappers felt he couldn't do--beat the quarter horse Griswold.
Despite being a half-length behind after the break, Valiant Pete stayed in close contact outside the 5-year-old Merridoc gelding, then won a stretch battle by a neck in 44 1/5 seconds for the four furlongs. His time equaled the world record for the distance.
Along with satisfaction came a healthy reward for Sadler and owners John Coelho and Pete Valenti. The purse for the match was $100,000, winner take all.
"This is like winning a $200,000 stakes, so we'd be happy to keep running in these," Sadler said.
In all probability, there will be a Valiant Pete-Griswold II. Seconds after Valiant Pete's even-money upset, there was discussion about a rematch at 870 yards at Hollywood Park.
"Thank God, we didn't follow the local brain trust and print media," Sadler said. "I was getting nervous. Once they cast me in the role of underdog, I just thought we'd go along with the role. But I thought all along it would be a close race and a good race. I think some of the pre-race analysis may have been a little shallow.
"One thing that wasn't considered is when they run a quarter horse meet, they run on a harder, faster surface. It's hard to compare those times. I think our home ground was a key factor. I thought we may have deserved to be the second choice, but I thought it would be a very close race.
"I wanted to be close (early), no question. (Valiant Pete) can run the first eighth in 10 seconds, and I can't believe any quarter horse can run it any quicker. We emphasized gate training for this race. My instructions to (jockey) Julio (Garcia) were to ride as hard as he could into the first turn and just ride to keep as close as you can. I thought this horse was very well suited to this race because he has such good gate quickness."
Griswold's connections were gracious in defeat after the 5-year-old's three-race victory streak ended.
"I want a rematch, buddy," trainer Dan Francisco said while shaking Sadler's hand. "I guess we have one. That was the deal, but I don't know when.

Quarter horse, thoroughbred, cob, heavy horse... whatever... Horses are just wonderful creatures.
Amen to that.
That's gay we're talking about the fastest and thoroughbreds aren't as thorough as they think that horse was deadly.
That you can beat the shit out of for our own personal entertainment.
Indeed...Magnificence of our Lord!
Lots of racing Quarter horses have a LOT of Thoroughbred blood due to the Appendix Quarter horse rules.
Yessir
Appendix Quarter horses make awesome barrel racing horses.
if quarter horses were faster they wouldn't be loaded with thoroughbred blood. totally agree with you.
@@hillaryilinsky1009 quarter horses are faster in small distances but when are appendix they have that because of the resistance of thoroughbred but the speed of a quarter horse
That is lots
There is a lot of cross reference here. A Quarter Horse will 90% of the time blow away a thoroughbred in the 1/4 mile from a STANDING START. It did in this race as it was still in the lead at the 3/8 mile post. Even Secretariat took 3/8 of a mile to get up to speed. They sure can't run the 1/4 in 20 seconds from a stand still. Ain't gonna happen.
Both breeds are bred for their specialties, quarter horses - 1/4 of a mile TB - mile.
I expected a big win for the quarter horse but some thoroughbreds have big early speed then run out of gas and some go gate to wire.
Last I heard, the recorded world record of any breed for 1/4 of a mile is by a 2yo filly TB named Winning Brew (by Milwaukee Brew) in 20.57 (from a starting gate/standing start).
I've rubbed some thoroughbreds that could do it in 19 seconds, but they were done soon after that. I still say thoroughbreds rule.
So a quarter horse can start faster than thoroughbreds?
Quarter Horses are at top speed in two strides. Faster than a Cheetah off the launch, but the cheetah wins. Just saying torque is a beautiful thing! Love those muscled-up athletes! And they're great minded and, and great for sticking heads into the truck when rolling in.
lol says someone that has never sat on a qh taking off or if you did a bad one.....
I agree, Stormy. Sebastian hasn't studied the torque of cheetah vs TB vs QH...and never felt being shot out of a cannon when the QH drops and launches. It's about confirmations (point of hip, slope, genetics) the information is out there and C-Bass, you may want to dig deep on this subject. The research is out there. Just takes effort to find it. Off the start, the Cheetah loses but wins a few seconds into the run.Believe me, I've researched the hell out this. Ya know, in case Stormy and I are on Jeopardy!, we'll get this one right! And it's not an estimation. Statistics and probability curves have given extremely high confidence levels unless on a 3-legged horse. I don't mean to come off as abrasive but I don't respond well to unfounded pseudo-facts. Can't refute the truth. Science speaks with repeated testing. And yes, top speed in two strides. And what a feeling and comparing the cheetah, the stride is what gives the QH the advantage: the "hang time" between strides and the short-coupled athleticism of a QH. And speed is relative when talking about top speed in two strides. A pony can be at top speed in two strides but there is a BATTERY of studies on QH v TB v Cheetah. LD, the QH will lose due to oxygen exchange in the mass of muscle. Hence, you don't see QH's win the AERC Tevis Cup. It's physiology at its finest and SOOOOOO cool!
Quarter horses are bred to thoroughbreds and are allowed to run as qh but not thoroughbreds wit quarter in them!
@Sebastian Adamson three or four strides. I used to ride both.Tears on your face and you ain' t crying! But I got that from some tb's too!
I agree with every thing that you said.
Crazy thing is grisworld looked more like the TB till I saw the front of his chest
Most race type Quarter Horses are heavily bred to T'breds. Reference Appendix Quarter Horses
Yes TBs have large chests abd 1/4 horse has those large round gluteus maximus
I couldn't see the detail so what is it I'm looking for precisely?
I felt the same way. Wasn't sure at first. I have a Paint horse who has heavy blood lines to famous QH racehorses from the mid-west. When he was younger, my boy could FLY!! (Now he's 28 and known for saving other horses from a burning barn rather than his speed).
I am currently doing a research paper for my equine studies seminar class and my topic is how quarter horses are faster then other breeds for a quarter mile. So after 20 pages of researching...quarter horses are still the fastest breed for up to a quarter mile. There genetic makeup allows them to surpass thoroughbreds particularly, though they come close.
This idiot is talking nonsense about genes. Thoroughbreds usually stand as quarter horse sires. Fast sprinters are chosen. School schmool I call BS..
Steve, in the last 20 years there has been one or 2 decent Tb that have stood to Quarter Horses
How did the paper go?
@@mikaelafox6106 i got an A 🙂
@@stevek8829 first of all, you are the stereotype of internet bullies. You're calling me an idiot for a college term paper I researched for an entire semester. Those were my statistical findings and facts. Do your own in depth research and talk to some professionals and stop being an ass. Thanks.
Their gaits and run are so different, so easy to spot the breed characteristics! Great video.
Valiant Pete is the thoroughbred, Griswold is the quarter horse. Valiant Pete won; the distance was four furlongs (1/2 mile)
Seems fair
Jadervason This makes sense. The ah was ahead, but about half way lost ground. The Thoroughbred won at 1/2 mile and the quarter horse would have won at a quarter mile. Not sure why people are arguing in the comments about this lol.
You'd need to look at the dosage numbers on the Tb, as some are bred for distance, others for speed.
@@watchgoose I never considered dosage again, after I threw out Strike the Gold from my $ 10 exacta box, BC his dosage was over 10 ! Even though he was by Alydar, of course, they later changed it. I most certainly had Best Pal, people forget he was 2nd in the Derby..👍❤️🙏👉🇺🇸
🙏
That was pretty darn close!
no you
I was in Cali, at that time. Valiant Pete, amazing
Beautiful! Keep in mind that QH's have Thoroughbred lineage...early colonists in America bred Chickasaw ponies with the Thoroughbred stock they brought from England. Most of those English Thoroughbreds descended from one of the three Arabian studs (The Godolphin Arabians) that are pretty much the foundation of racing horses today. As a long-time owner of a QH/Morgan gelding, I can attest firsthand the immense power QH's have off the line. It's like a rocket launching!
1/4 horses also have Morgan blood. Justin Morgan bred the sire & dam that produced Figure, the first Morgan horse. It's a pity that the breed standard has been permitted change so dramatically (they look more like Saddlebreds) that, Figure's conformation is referred to as old style. I say if you want a saddlebred then buy one.
@@madamrockford2508 “Park Morgans” ugh. Give me the old style. A Lippitt line.
Did u just copy and paste that from Google lol
QH today are 95% TB ‘
Secretariat looks like any old quarter horse to me, yet he's a thoroughbred. Thoroughbreds are really good at Western and can even work cattle. The breeds have a lot in common. My two favorite breeds!
The quarter held up really well. That was a close finish!!
Not enough’
At 6 furlongs he’d be lost ‘ 😞
In addition to a QH's speed, they have a tremendous amount of agility. Which is why they make great ranch and rodeo horses.
They were both game, both all ❤️.
I'm actually surprised the TB could keep up when they broke from the gate. A good QH is explosive out of the gate.
Valiant Pete was one of the fastest thoroughbreds going 4 to 6 furlongs he could break like a quarter horse very fast horse
Don't under estimate a thoroughbred.
I own them. Remarkable animals.
The max speed ever recorded for a TB racehorse is 43.9 mph, or 70.7 km/h over 1/4 mile. The max speed ever recorded for a QH racehorse is 44.3 mph, or 71.3 km/h over 1/4 mile. Those speeds come from the Guinness Book of World Records and the American Quarter Horse Association. No horse can go 85 mph, sorry. Please check your facts before you spout off in the comments section on RUclips.
Go to the QH website and look at race times. Why would a TB race 1/4 mile and how could he do it so fast? They probably have divided his time for a full mile or something. You have to be wary looking at these comparisons because they can be misrepresented. A match race is a good way to compare, though of course you won't see top times in either breed that way, just generalizations.
ER Redfan
Wow! Maybe he didn't do well because he would have done better if he'd been raced QH distances?

lollollollollollollollol.....
someone actually said 85 miles an hour?
crazy.........
although, an 85 mile-an-hour horse would be fun
@@horsemindedwtp they may have meant kph
@Galen Joyce I believe a Cheetah has been clocked at 82, idk why I remember..
Of course the quarter horse is going to be at a disadvantage past 1/4 mile. He did well in the quarter mile.
theres not really any point in racing these breeds against eachother... 1/4 mile race quarter horse will win its the sprinter anything 1 mile or whatever a standard tb race is the tb will win... hell throw an arabian in there and run a five mile race I garentee the arabian is going to win these horses have been selectivly bred for different sports so theres no point
no arabians are long distance runners hence favorite breed for endurance racing look it up
***** Actually, Arabs were bred for endurance- hence long distance running. Thoroughbreds would definitely fatigue slower in terms of a specific distance, but cross-country mileage, Arabs were made for it and would sustain much longer.
***** Are you on crack?
***** Gees get off your period, and Man up... Well at least boy up.
***** Why do you think there are no Arabian horse races? Do a little research. There are paint horse races as well. As far as that goes, there are racing mules, too.
There's gotta be such a crazy thrill being on a horse at that speed! Horses are the most beautiful creatures, and sadly, many are so mistreated it's crazy.
I was there that day very exciting the loudest i heard the crowd till zenyatta.
Wow seeing that race in person must have been exciting! Totally recognized Trevors voice. I was at Breeders Cup when Z won classic, completely surreal. Cant wait for SA to allow race fans inside hopedully soon.
WOW. Cool.
Me too!
I own a QH mare who is 82% Foundation bred and yes, it is still true. Quarter Horse racing is alive and well, and I've ridden all my life, but never on a horse as fast as this mare when she gets going. Quarter Horse breeding is also alive and well (I've bred one myself), and on average, they are the fastest sprinters in the horse world. Thanks to the American Quarter Horse Association, news of this incredible breed is reaching the national consciousness, as well it should be.
If I was to be given a choice of any horse in the world: Give me a foundation bred QH every time.
@@CC-so7qe
My parents bred and raised QH 50 years ago.
At the end of the day, thoroughbreds dominate certain sports over quarter horses and visa versa. You dont see quarter horses competing at top league stadium jumping. Just as you dont see thoroughbreds competing in barrel racing at the nfr. Both great animals, two completely different athletic capabilities.
Nope. Their legs are too short. Although, I saw a very small grey gelding (can’t remember his name) who was barely 15 hands who won the stadium jumping class at the Grand National at the Cow Palace in SF in the late ‘70s. He was amazing, and retired that year. I think Shirley Temple presented his award at the retirement ceremony, if I remember correctly. I was 16 and worked at a tack shop called Rowell’s Saddlery at the time, and we had a booth there. The former owner, Cecil Jones, was an old pro rodeo cowboy and he introduced me to Slim Pickens, an old cowboy actor. He taught me to play Liar’s Dice! It was such a fun time. I also showed my 2-year-old mare in halter against the pro trainers! I almost won my class against the best AQHA filly in the country, ‘She’s a Cover Girl.’ The judge walked back and forth between my mare, ‘Hobby’s Melody’ until he saw Melody flex her knee. She was ‘over at the knee’ from growing quickly-still a conformation flaw, darn!! He gave Cover Girl 1st and Melody got 6th! One of my best show memories! :o)
Your statement is racist and stereotypes horses into a box. Pure racism.
@@deeplorable8988 What? it is not. Quarter horses don't often have the hocks or the height to stand up to jumping a meter 40. Doesn't mean they can't jump just that finding one able to go to the world cup would be rare and it would likely be a minimum of 75% TB anyway.
@@NoThankUBeQuiet So racist
Didn’t Fallon Taylor win RRP champ on Cowboy Swagger in barrel racing? Never underestimate a Thoroughbred.
There are 2 basic. quarter horses body type. There is the running quarter horse that can look like a tb and run the longer races. And the horses that are the sprinters they have the shorter back and large rear muscles.
I had a quarter horse who was a grand daughter of Three Bars a tb. She looked like a tb. My friend had a full sister to my mare who looked like the sprinter. They were great mares. Miss them.
Oh, I had some old quarter horse journal growing up as a teen that my mother friend gave me. I always liked Three Bars.
@@avalongrooming awesome horse. He was a pure sprinter. That's why he was bred to quarter horses.
Yeah, QH are better at short distances like barrel racing
I had a Doc Bar /Secretariat x2 liniage in my Paint boy ..the hind quarters / chest muscles were classic, except for the ewe neck and his height: he was three fingers from being classified a pony, like Sea Biscuit.
Pinched muzzle, wide jaw, even wider blue eyes, short head with Tobiano markings, white hair with a lock of sorrel on his forehead. He looked like a Barbie Doll's horse.
My boy did everything I asked of him. Could not have asked for a kinder sweeter soul. Though Confirmation is king, a perfect temperament is a Gift from God. When the two are one, magic.
So who won the quarter horse or Tb horse please tell me it was very close 😮
I remember when this happened. Thanks for bringing back the memories! (Opinion: If Valiant Pete would've been racing Refrigerator, it would've been a whole 'nother ending.)
In 1796 Justin Morgan raced his colt, Figure, against the speedy New York horses Sweepstakes and Silvertail in a match race along the road known as “the Morgan Mile” in Brookfield, Vermont. Morgan's horse defeated both racers for a $50 stake.
His name was Figure, called Justin Morgan. He is, will always be, one of the greatest horses to ever grace this planet!
And without Figure - the QH, Standardbred, Missouri Fox Trotter, Tennessee Walker, American Saddlebred wouldn't have even existed.
The Morgan horse is a class of its own.
I love how they were both almost matched stride for stride
First off these are two very good horses valiant Pete was a very fast tb and won many a race and
Griswald was a very fast qh who raced his best at 870 yards that's 10 yards shorter than a half mile.
Plus the QH 870 has no run up, the TB has a run up before the official distance. In this race the QH people wanted no run up but the TB people did and it did have a run up. Run-up is the distance traveled before the timing of the race begins. It gives horses a running start. The timing of the race doesn’t begin until the first horse hits the point where the official distance of the race begins, commonly referred to as tripping the beam. This horse triggers the beginning of the electronic timing of the race. So that extra distance they had to run probably effected the outcome by a few inches or more.
Barbara B defeated the Thoroughbred Fair Truckle, owned by Seabiscuit owner Charles Howard, in a quarter mile $50,000 match race at Hollywood Park in 1947. That would be like a $300,000 or more purse today.
But imagine Secretariat though-
LET'S JUST SAY WE ALL KNOW WHO WOULD WIN
You know Secretariat would've been beat right? Both of these horses would've kicked his ass in the quarter mile, and probably the half mile as well. Secretariat was about as far from a sprinter as you got-- he started most of his races at the back of the pack.
His fastest half-mile start was probably Belmont when he was pushed straight to the front, and even then, he was a whole 2 seconds slower than these two horses. He simply doesn't reach top stride fast enough. That's not what he's known for.
@@ggsooyoun *Wheeze* his father was a champion sprinter and his mother had a very large heart 😂😂😂😂😂 If the race was longer Secretariat could have outrun them with ease and sprint to the finish

Wow! My mare was out of a running quarter dam (6 x gr. Granddaughter of Man ‘O War). She looked very much like this quarter horse!!
Man ‘O War was a thoroughbred.
@@nancyjames2358 I KNOW that. My mare’s dam was an ‘appendix quarter’/thoroughbred. She earned her AQHA # from racing. Look her up: ‘Dark Fantasy’ was her name. My mare’s name was Hobby’s Melody, by AQHA Hobby Horse. She was foaled in 1974. Look up her pedigree. You’ll see Man’O War in her dam’s line 6 generations back.
The man’o war blood lines have muscle tissue similar to sprinters also have large hearts and lungs
Just watched this for the first time. Very few match races.
Ruffian's fatal breakdown in her match race against Foolish Pleasure probably soured many racing fans on the idea of match races.
Interesting! I was give a roping horse when I was 14 which belonged to my uncle . A geulding half quarter half thourobred and I roped on him till he was 28 !!! I never got outran not even by the fastest calves! So I got him when he was 23!!! My uncle got him at 3 yrs old and he had been used as a race horse in Oklahoma! I can only imagine how fast he was in his prime!!! Always hyper always wanting to run not walk. Even at 28. I can tell u but to have witnessed this horse myself my words don't do him justice! He was that fast !!!
What's it like to use one animal to hurt another animal? Can you imagine being a baby animal and some human on a 1200 lb animal yanks you by your neck while you are running?

I have a part in a syndicated stallion. I own 1 of his sperms. Hope that sperm is a winner!
Ever heard of a horse named "Beduino"?
Awesome race between these guys. I was impressed because I did think that the thoroughbred would have won by at least a length. I have no idea which was which but the quarterhorse, which ever one it was, absolutely rocked against said competition.
@Emily Keith Cheers Emily.
That was a cracking battle.
Awesome race
Also Qh are built more with more muscle. Not saying that throughbreds aren't muscular, it just takes longer to build it up.
For anyone who is wondering, red is the thoroughbred and green is the quarter
Thanks
It took me a couple watches to figure it out 😊
Should have looked through the comments 😄 thanks!
if that was a mile the thoroughbred would've won by 10 lengths
I dont think Valient Pete could get the mile
That's the whole point. Quarter horses aren't bred to run long distances, but they are FAST out of the gate.
@@TheProfessorOfLife valiant Pete was the TB here, he was very good but only in sprints.
If it was 350 yards, the QH would've left the TB in the dust. With that said, 2 different horses bred for different kind of racing. Its really not an even match to race the breeds against each other.
it might look like a repeat of Secretariats Belmont Stakes win at or beyond a mile. I expected a huge win for the quarter horse at a quarter mile but I guess a good sprinter can hold its own.
Agree with the last comment.. in a quarter mile sprint the 1 horse blows the 2 away plain and simple.
This is a pretty neat exhibition. This would be like Wayde van Niekerk and Usain Bolt racing in a 300 meter. (split the difference and see who is faster)
In April Valiant Pete won and then in Dec Griswold won it's a stand off

Wonderfull whip-beating. I could splutter.
Griswold is 68% Thoroughbred, if you look back 5 generations. Foundation Quarter would have folded at that distance
Quarter horses tend to be more muscular than TB horses for some reason.
Oh, I see
And more compactly coupled, so they get a quicker burst of speed initially.
Awesome to see
Pretty sure the two horses were best buddies and one of them just said "Bro, let's mess with the spectators today."
I was there! I have a picture ofme with Griswald at Pomona.
The TB is on the outside so, he is traveling a longer distance then the QH right out of the gate!

I mean....the quarter horse was in the lead at the *quarter* mile😂
I know Griswold is considered a "distance racer" for a quarter horse, but Im not surprised the TB beat him, world record holder or not. They're sorta _meant_ to be beaten at longer distances, it's just not what they're built for
most thoroughbreds that race are a lot of thoroughbred --- the famous champion quarter horse easy jet was 7/8 thoroughbred ----

I was surprised to see how close it was I expected the quarter horse smoke the thoroughbred for a quarter-mile
This race was a half mile, so the QH still did well for it to be so close
@@lyssakate I agree, I just expected the quarter horse to have a large early lead and then get beat. That was impressive to be so competitive at twice the distance.
The one on the outside looks like it was the qh
QH was on the rail and broke first. Griswold started his stretch run and pulled ahead briefly but the TB was able to regain the lead. I suspect the QH could not maintain his speed at the end. So many factors. It was a very close race and I love both breeds.
Guys it kinda depends on what the horse is like yeah breed determines a little but but each horse has different speeds shapes and sizes as do humans
The head on #1 is tremendous. Beaten already with a quarter to go but refuses to give up. Almost psyches the more capable one out.
Helps that the jockey keeps beating it.

There isn't a thoroughbred in the world that can beat a quarter-horse over 440 yards. That being said, there isn't a quarter-horse in the world that can beat a thoroughbred at any distance greater than six furlongs. They're bred to sprint.
And no horse ( except maybe a mustang) can beat a 100 mile endurance race

Was the outside one the QH? Looks too chunky for a TB
Griswold was the best of his generation @ 870 yds.
In my mind QHs and TBs run just as fast as the other...
*At what distance?* As this shows, at up to half a mile, a sprint specialist TB can challenge a Quarterhorse; in this case, beat it. (Though I suspect most racing Quarterhorses could beat most racing TBs at that distance.) At a mile or more, it won't be a contest.
As a person with no pride in any breed, I can comment that it looked just like a match race two racehorses... Umm... I will say that a quarter horse is kind of a sprinter and it wasn't EXACTLY a sprint but wasn't over a mile either or was it basically ...6 furlongs? Anyway, you get my point...No need to argue. Both fine race horses.
It was four furlongs which equals a half mile. A long distance race for a Quarter Horse is usually 870 yards, which is 10 yards shorter than this race. Many times they race against more Thoroughbreds in 870 yard races, so the Thoroughbreds win that distance the majority of the time.
I think tb have max speed of 45mph. We do see some 1000 metres races on grass with the quarter mile sectional time of 20 seconds, which is 45mph
Which ones the quarter horse and which ones the thoroughbred horse
Quarter horse was next to the rail. The Thoroughbred won the race, but at a quarter mile was behind. :)
Only once did Man O War ever actually run. Most of the time he was just galloping. The one time he did run, was when he was way behind when the others took off, combined with stumbling as he got turned around, he galloped his usual pace for a spell as he caught up, but the jockey waiting too long, he had to go urge Man O War to really poured it on. When he did, he set the world record for 2 furlongs (a 1/4 mile). He still holds that record. That race is the only one he loss, which was due to rider error b4 the race even started. The horse who won was called Upset, whom Man O War beat easily several times b4 & after this particular race.
No, I was just asking if the outside one was actually the Quarter Horse because racing TB`s are quite slim usually. Not calling them fat.
No Match race has ever proved anything
Quarter horses are faster in short distances, thoroughbreds where bred for long distances and quarters where used for short distances, both breeds have thoroughbred in them
fact- the quarter horse origin is from a mix of british and spanish horses, which wwas later brought to america

Why did it look like that the jockey for the QH wasn’t giving it enough rein for most of the race and that the tight rein held the QH back? The poor horse’s head was even being held too high. At around the 10 second mark of the video you can see the jockey start to shorten the rein and that’s when the QH quit gaining in its lead. I don’t have a preference of these two breeds, so I’m not biased in wanting either one to win, but to me it looks like the QH might have loss because of the jockey. Did anyone else notice this?
I have a question. Can a Quarter horse enter into thoroughbred events? I know in Western Canada a lot of their races are 4 furlong or 4 and a half furlong events.
No they are 2 different sports you can say.
yes.. up here in grande prairie alberta, we have races that our thoroughbreds and quarter horses in the same race. Most of our races though are just one breed in each race.

Yay
Someone needs to race saddlebreds. They would beat any ole' thoroughbred in a race any day! :P
*****
Saddlebreds are NOT bred for dressage or jumping. they're a gaited breed, similar to Tennessee Walkers, who were initially bred for the military and for use on the plantations of Kentucky. get YOUR facts straight before you jump on others. they also have a huge dosage of TB blood, so, they might be fast, but in general they won't be beating TBs on the track anytime soon.
***** If the race was 20 miles I'd put my money on the Saddlebreds any day.
darrel sibbet you better put your money on an arabian, anything over 2 miles and an arabian is going to win, when they race arabians its 3 miles or better
Wayyy too long for a 1/4 horse
No it's not. Griswold was an 870 yard specialist, the distance was right up his alley.
I agree almika
Which breed won the race?
For a quarter of a mile, the qtr horse would probably win. Hence their name, quarter horse. But for distance the thoroughbred wins.
Which one won
The thoroughbred
The finish line
