I love how people who know nothing about horses or what happens to horses when there is no longer a 'need' of horses come here to talk about their opinion of what is considered abuse. Meet and ride a competition horse if you can survive staying on with no experience, then tell me if they want to do this. Horses finish competitions sometimes when riders fall off, they know what they are doing, but depend on the riders for important queues regarding stamina and placement. They need each other.
Yes, they know what they are doing, they're running away because they're scared. One thing I know for sure is that horses fell uncomfortable in small spaces, and guess what? They put them in a small space at the beginning. Second of course they will run even if the rider falls, they follow the other horses, because most likely in nature, if the group runs away it means there's some kind of danger behind, that's why they all keep running. That's simple
We have jockey whips at our barn that we sometimes use on the cross country course...I've been beaten by them before by my friends and I've hit my friends with them before. It doesn't hurt. At all. My jumping crop hurts more when I tap it. The material makes a VERY loud noise and often times is hit against the boot, not the horse itself.
Abby Carvide do you even realize how sensitive horses are? Gerten (the german Word For short whips)are designed to gide a horse not whip it. A horse can feel a lot more than us humans do, not to mention that I’ve done the same with my friends and it really does hurt. One more thing that I should say is that the racing industry puts horses (and jockeys ) in an immense amount of danger. Horses break their legs so fast in these types of sports that it’s actually unbelievable. I don’t support horse racing and I hope other equestrians can too. Please watch raleighreacts Videos on this matter it’s really important.
@@Thelastchangeling Robin Dabank as Zoe The fact that you even REFERENCE crops shows that you don't know what you're talking about. Racing utilizes padded whips. If a jockey were to walk in with a bat or crop, like you or I use, they would be told to get a padded crop, or else they could not use a crop in that race. Often times, the jockey is waving the crop by their face, OR smacking their boot. If a horse has blinkers on, the jockey will smack his boot. In America, the horses are ONLY allowed to be hit on the flank or the shoulder. You can also only hit them a certain amount of times and only in the straight. I can't remember the exact amount of times, but it's not a lot. PADDED WHIPS DO NOT HURT. THEY MAKE A LOUD NOISE. Also, horses break their legs in ALL EQUESTRIAN SPORTS. The vast majority of owners and trainers care more about their horses then themselves. The horses are their INCOME, if they get banned, or if their horse becomes injured and cannot race anymore/has to be euthanized, they will have a cut off of income. WHY would they want that? Also, please put the numbers into perspective. People criticized Santa Anita a bunch last year, so let's use them. Santa Anita had around 30 breakdowns. Out of how many? Oh, over at least 1000 at the meet? Racing is one of the most popularized forms of equestrian sport, and has VERY public death records. (I can go and check them RIGHT NOW...which is something I can't say for USEF or USEA....) This is getting long, so I won't continue for much longer, but god, Raleigh? I got a good chuckle out of that one. Raleigh shares her OPINION. Everything she says about horse racing is her OPINION. That she founded on one or two BIASED articles. Sweetheart, wake up. Please actually go to a track and see all this 'mistreatment'. Thank you. 🙂
@Abby Carvide I race, and it's 11 times that im allowed to whip the horse hard. It used to be 7 times, but now the whip can only be used backhanded, and these padded whips are useless. They do sting the horse, but they don't hurt the horse as much as the old type of race whip.

We went 6f and when turning for home the roar of the crowd was great, even though I had no chance for a placing I drove a little harder from the excitement of the crowd sounding off. To the comments below; Yes, when waiting for a long time in the gate it gets a little nerve racking, especially if your horse is acting up. The stirrups being high are for a reason, it doesn't make it scary to those that ride. Being a jockey you are your own team, but the brotherhood is like nothing else.

Woah this is amazing! Considering I hate the racing industry this seems fairly cool! Also looks like u love the horses loads! You all did great and well done! X
I don't know about this race, but it's actually a common misconception that all horse racing is abuse! Horses are bred to run, they love it. Unfortunately, the sport has become very corrupt, using steroids or overly harsh punishments towards the horse. But, if the race is conducted properly, there's no harm!
Billie Eilish fan no, she actually barely used the whip. I barrel race, and you need to use the whip sometimes because it helps with speed. It takes a lot to hurt a horse and she wasn’t doing it hard enough to hurt it, just enough to say “go faster”. I prefer spurs to the whip but I do have a whip for my competitions. It really depends on how and how hard you hit. It’s not beating a horse, it’s a signal system. Yes, some people do abuse their horses with it, but this lady did used her whip responsibly
Why was I so tense and nervous while u where in the start box when I have never raced a horse before in my life and this isn’t even in real life I’m watching this over a screen..... ill stick to showjumping 😂✌️
Horse racing is sometimes curupt or cruel, but the jockeys risk life and limb to continue with their sport. They should be respected althetes, but instead they are steriotiped by people in the none racing industry. So many horses die because this sport is dangerous, but so are all the other equestrian sports. Horses get put down not because they 're now useless and can't run, but because these jockeys do not want to see their horse suffer for the rest of their lives. Hardly any race horses are sent to the slaughter house now, so please to not keep dwelling on the past and look at all the positives of this sport.
Racing is abuse. Guys, quit saying it’s not “the horse is just stubborn” “the horse wouldn’t do it if they didn’t want to” “the horse is bread to run, they love it” no. Horses are stubborn but they are also quick learners. If a horses tries to not do something when the trainer is telling them and the trainer smacks them or does something to make them “learn their lesson” then they don’t want to get punished again so they don’t try to resist again. These horses are just babies. Their bones, especially the hawk joint isn’t fully developed and that’s why there are so many falls. They’re collapsing because their joins are literally breaking from the weight and hard pounding on the ground. If the horse doesn’t move then they’re going to get smacked with the crop (I don’t have a problem with crops if they’re used properly) but these craps are not used properly. They smack the horse harder then anyone ever should to get them to go. Horses have thin skin and more nerve endings so it’s easier to hurt them or “punish” them for something they aren’t doing. These yearlings are in pain and they do not enjoy this this. “They come from a long line of racers” just because I come from a long line of runners doesn’t mean I’m going to enjoy running. It’s like making babies who are still crawling run in a race every week. Ofcourse that’s not going to be pleasant on their ankles. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.
Hey y’all! Racing here isn’t abuse, the horses get so much enrichment, they get pet, they get baths even when they aren’t due to racing that day! They get better vets, dentists, farriers then your standard showjumper! The horses can only race up to age 7-8, which means they get a better 25+ years of retirement. Some race places do start horses too young but many horses enjoy their jobs, as their able to race with friends, and same horses they were born with, horses enjoy racing, that’s why the horses keep running when a jockey gets thrown off, sometimes it’s instinct, but the horse has all the will in the world to throw off a rider if they hated it, and not all jockeys abuse their horses, in the ‘ MANY CLOUDS WINS THE 2015 RACE (JOCKEY CAM ) ‘ ( or something like that ) the jockey says to the groom ‘ Are you nervous? ‘ the groom says ‘ No ‘ and then the jockey go’s ‘ I just want her to be safe ‘ jockeys do love their horses, watch the video of when their horses die on the tracks, they usually cry, and stay with their horses.

I didn’t think so.
Horse racing IS ABUSE! Your forcing the horse to race it isn’t far and using the whips to make the horse faster is just abuse? You’re hitting the horse on its back end or on the front, etc. Racing to the horse is just force and you don’t reward them???!!! If I raced I would never use a whip and I wouldn’t force the horse to go faster I would pet it before and after! Racing sometimes is gambling, betting on those beautiful horses. 5:36 look closely, and so many people have been hurted in racing including the horse.
But always remember! A lot of racehorses are mistreated and overworked, there are also many many many deaths in professional horse racing. A lot of horses collapse/ break their legs, and are put down right on the track. Most that retire are sold for meat.

Amazing posture, your horse did great. Love how you comfort him/her before and after the race.
Phoenix Grimm EXACTLY!!
AMEN
They don’t need riders to run. They know how to use their legs, unlike you tough they don’t care if they win or not.
It doesn’t change the fact that they inject them with steroids and other drugs and give them harsh punishments like physically beating them.
I'm just trying to find a comment I can read! 😂

Not really they killed over 50 horses nd still tried to ride them
@@aubrieevans7592 I am aware I am just saying they were nice to eachother and this particular Jockey was nice to their horse not all of them are
@@Glennaequestrian well they are sum of them dont care for there horses but i was just saying what they do.
(I can go and check them RIGHT NOW...which is something I can't say for USEF or USEA....)
This is getting long, so I won't continue for much longer, but god, Raleigh? I got a good chuckle out of that one. Raleigh shares her OPINION. Everything she says about horse racing is her OPINION. That she founded on one or two BIASED articles. Sweetheart, wake up. Please actually go to a track and see all this 'mistreatment'. Thank you. 🙂
@Abby Carvide I race, and it's 11 times that im allowed to whip the horse hard. It used to be 7 times, but now the whip can only be used backhanded, and these padded whips are useless. They do sting the horse, but they don't hurt the horse as much as the old type of race whip.
@@heyitsdusk I would love to show you tons of slowmo in which you'll see that they indeed whip the horse and not their boot but i don't have any time to lose with you 😂

OTTB's are the best! We have a bunch at the barn where I board, and I just got one myself. They all have such awesome personalities.
I remember when I rode my first race, I was amazed at how surreal it was. Very quiet other than some riders yelling at the start.
My heart was beating fast watching this!!! Can't imagine being there and doing it!

Now all horses have there own breeds and personality but this horses ears were forward the hole time and looked perfectly fine , so stop saying how bad it is when horseriding just comes like that ... as long as the horse is happy I it’s fine and bit less bridles are just as bad as bitsbridles the6nall hurt the horses in one way or another 🙄 Edit:the horses ears were forward most the time x

I feel bad for the horses😓
I don't know about this race, but it's actually a common misconception that all horse racing is abuse! Horses are bred to run, they love it. Unfortunately, the sport has become very corrupt, using steroids or overly harsh punishments towards the horse. But, if the race is conducted properly, there's no harm!
Aleah A. The women that was filming this was physically beating her horse.
They get taken care of, so don’t fell bad for them. They look healthy and beautiful and racing is common for horses.

Looks so excited to run 😂😍
Horse racing is sometimes curupt or cruel, but the jockeys risk life and limb to continue with their sport. They should be respected althetes, but instead they are steriotiped by people in the none racing industry.
So many horses die because this sport is dangerous, but so are all the other equestrian sports. Horses get put down not because they 're now useless and can't run, but because these jockeys do not want to see their horse suffer for the rest of their lives.
Hardly any race horses are sent to the slaughter house now, so please to not keep dwelling on the past and look at all the positives of this sport.
i always say save your speed for the finish.
At the end when they start going fast they whip the horses in some jockeys which they dont realize they are hurting the horse

1 year late, but I agree with you completely. I only support racers if they don’t abuse their horse. Which barely happens now :(
i didn't know that all the jockey's get to meet before the race thats cool
They often know each other anyway
What about horses who run for 2 years and get sent to the slaughterhouse for to me, unknown reasons.
@@ihateyoube That’s usually because they’ve been stolen, or break a leg, or finish their career, but half of the time if a horse finishes it’s career, are made into sires and dams,

The horses are so stunning. I have always been OBSESSED with them.
Scientists have said that whipping a horse doesn’t make it go faster when racing in fact it causes more stress for the horse just saying
But always remember! A lot of racehorses are mistreated and overworked, there are also many many many deaths in professional horse racing. A lot of horses collapse/ break their legs, and are put down right on the track. Most that retire are sold for meat.
This also can happen to the dear old pony club ponies and horses that arent even related to horse racing. I've seen better looked after horses in racing than I have in 'normal' homes..
