Back in 2021, when Mojang was trying to make the new caves for Caves & Cliffs, one of the snapshots they released had a glitched End dimension where the islands got taller and even had caves in them, and the obsidian pillars were buried under end stone. They fixed it after one snapshot, but I never stopped thinking about how much cooler the End would have been if they had kept it like that.
Here’s my floating island opinion: I wish the end floating islands would use the same noise settings as the original sky dimension sky lands. It seems they flattened it just for the arena and then ported those settings to the rest for the rest of the dimension. It made it flat and boring and makes the game worse. Maybe they will fix it in an end update sometime down the line. The video was good. Please keep making them.
Ive had dreams about minecraft where there was no build height limit and if you go high enough youd find scatterings of floating islands with large temples on top of them sometimes. The temples were beautiful and were stocked with foreign resources. I think the idea of something weird and alien hidden in the skies somewhere overhead waiting to be explored is an amazing idea.
There is a criminally underrated, and sadly dying game called the blockheads that has this as a feature. It’s a sort of mix of terraria and minecraft, being a side scroller, but with 3D models like minecraft. You can fly up and find sky islands, some with trees that grow gems.
@@shhinysilver1720 thank you for the recommendation. Im personally a fan of minecraft clones. I think the concept itself still has a lot of unexplored potential
I don't like how the "Bronze" dungeon has a silver color scheme, while the "Silver" dungeon has a bronze color scheme. And then the gold dungeon is... red? Anyone else bothered by that, or is it just me? XD
On the topic of floating island dreams, mine goes like this. Imagine a steampunk world consisting of floating islands on which entire cities, factories, airfields and military bases are located, all forming different conflicting factions. Their rivalry eventually turns into a massive war with airships, planes and other flying tech, which are now possible thanks to many addons for the Create mod that are in development right now. The verticality of this kind of conflict would be spectacular! Airships slowly peeking around the corners, fighters maneuvering around the islands, bombers performing nightly raids, air defense systems putting lines of tracers into the sky, infantry equipped with elytras (or other jet pack-like tech) boarding their enemies’ airships… Can’t wait for all the addons to fully release!
Oh man, the Aether was beautiful. Along with AdventureCraft, it was the one mod I was really fascinated by as a kid. The End feels sort of like a dark Aether. I had ideas for the End dimension, including these: • Abyssal Waters, that would slowly sink you down before teleporting you to the void. • Maw vines, which would grow from End cities. You could climb them, but there would be mouths on the vines that would chomp you if you climbed near them. There would also be maw grass, which would grow on the ground instead. • Oculus beacons, which would kinda be like the end crystals on the pillars, except they would cast a searching beacon that would apply a wither effect if you got caught under it. Kinda like the Eye of Sauron.
I remember playing Minecraft with a floating islands datapack after they were removed as a world type in 1.18, and I fell in love with the Idea of developing this world, and having bases and farms built on island's connected by bridges. (Unfortunately I wasn't very good at Minecraft and I would have a bad habit of quitting when I died, and starting over with a new world every time) Unfortunately do to circumstances that I can't share, I can't play Minecraft anymore and I was filled with so much nostalgia apon seeing this video to the good old days. I want to play Minecraft again so bad...
Something fun I found out by accident was loading up an old buffet floating island world post caves and cliffs, and got wild vertical islands in the new chunks. It was like exploring nether generation without floor or a ceiling. Massive chasams but also extreme mountains. I'd recommend messing around with it, I had a blast just flying around with elytra 🎉
for me, my crazy sky island idea is this.. the firmament of the sky is white and hot. it slowly drips from the ceiling, and forms spikes in the sky, creating stars above. these spikes can detatch, and slowly fall down to the earth over a few hundred years. during those years, people can fly up to them on giant dragons, build settlements, cities, and more. some even go so far as to build on the drops that are still stuck to the firmament.
I love the idea of a world of floating islands, but not because of minecraft. I'm a Sonic fan, and one day, I discovered the Sonic OVA, and I fell inlove with Planet Freedom (specifically The Land Of The Sky), and it's one of my favorite places of fiction. I'd recommend checking it out. It's kinda weird, but it's aesthetic is beautiful. It's kinda in legal limbo, but it's unofficially available on RUclips. I'm not sure if you'll like it as a story, but it's something I love for what it is, and you'll love the visuals!
I've always had a hyperfixation for floating islands. You can imagine my hype when we got our first look at Tears of the Kingdom! I'd like to see a normal survival version of the Elysium Aisles world someday. Like vanilla Minecraft without the difficult dungeons or the mmo/rpg mechanics. I'd love to play vanilla Minecratf in a floating islands world.
Idk this for sure but I think the Aether mod was inspired by Minecrafts own Sky Dimension that notch planned to add but never saw the light of day, this mod makes this come true and so much more,I eventually plan to do a aether only playthrough, should be fun
Hello! I'm a junior modder and with one friend I'm embarking to make a small rpglike addition to our world because we wanted more stories in our world!!! I've ALWAYS loved floating isles and seeing people's projects with them is so inspiring to get me motivated for what I create!!
What a specific topic to make a video about. "Floating islands in Minecraft inspired by Aether mod when you were just 11 years old". I agree with you that it is a shame that Notches original idea of creating an opposite of the Nether Dimension never came to a true realise. I just recently started working on my own MC Server (still a singleplayer-world) with the Aether mod and all its available add-ons for 1.20.1. I just build a giant tower that reaches all the way to the sky, (build limit) connected by a monorail-train provided by the Create-mod add on Steams and Rails. It feels so unique to drive up with the monotrain, looping along this huge tower to reach the sky dimension. Now I didnt had the time to actually build a welcoming-hub like area in the Aether for players to feel encuraged to explore further without those huge beginner risks that you mentioned in your video. I see how Moas are very helpful to get around in the Sky, so I would like to create some sort of Moa-Breeder Farm were players are able to get one from the get go, compared to the chocobo breeder that I put on land. (With the chocobo mod) Now I see that you are super busy with your own server, so I wont ask you to help me out. But I hope I can come even relately close to your Server with my own world. You inspired me and I will do my best to see what YOU see in Aether like worlds. In case you have free time and would like to help me, just send me a message. Thanks for this niche but yet very thought out showcase.
I have an idea for an open world RPG that takes place on a series of giant floating islands, and has a permanent storm going on below it so you can't leave. Once you kill what you think is the final boss, the storm stops and you can now access the overworld, revealing that the game is twice as big as you thought it was. Then, once you finish the overworld(which is the same size as the floating islands), you beat the final boss only to reveal that there's also an underworld, a giant cave system the same size as the floating islands and the overworld, revealing that the game is actually three times as big as you thought it was. Unfortunately, I can't code or 3D model despite trying many times, so I can't make it. It's a fun idea though.
Thanks to the block limit being increased, a sky dimension would be an even greater opportunity. I don’t want the aether islands to be like the end islands where verticality is not really utilized. Then you can have layers to the sky islands where the player starts in the middle and has to figure out how to travel up or down. The further you get from the middle layer the more you encounter stronger mobs, tougher dungeons and better loot. Then you can split the layers into different themes. The further you go up, the more “heavenly” and supernatural things. There is where you will find more angelic and magical creatures and biomes. The lower go, technological it gets. There you would find ruins of an ancient civilization that lift behind a lot of technology you can use.
My interest in floating islands actually predates Minecraft, sort of, my internet access was limited. The sandbox nature of the funny block game intrigued me, the first thing I thought of was a cloud that wolves come down from. My first real experience with them would be the ones in Pixelgun so those are the ones that sort of clicks with me.
Really wish the aether had been adopted into the main game in some way. It baffles me how fast Java coders were able to pump stuff out back in the day and nowadays with all the different platforms to develop for it takes mojang AGES to do anything!
I think it’s because they’re paralyzed by indecision and bogged down in market research. They also have so many players now that they can’t risk fucking something up. It sucks, I wish they’d add more
I've been working on and off on a maze-themed adventure map for a while now, but at some point I stopped because I felt like I was jumping in at the deep end since I had never made one before, and that I didn't have the proper know-how to make it work. After watching this video, I think I'm gonna give it another try. It's so cool seeing hope people in this community make the most amazing things, and I wanna contribute to that, even if it does feel like I'm a bit in over my head. And yes, I think I will add a floating islands section to the map as well.
I would absolutely love to have floating islands with varying gravity rules. Like: 1: islands where you end up upside down, walking and building on the underside or on the side 2: islands with faster or slower gravity so players take more or less fall damage depending on what island they go to. The players could drop a sand block over an island to make sure that the island is safe, or observe which mobs survive near that island.
kids having their dreams crushed by the aether mod should of just installed it I had no problem looking through forum posts for it when I was young and it was a really nice time
My floating islands would be cold. Very cold, but also bright and full of colorful flying mobs of all shapes and sizes. Also, a version of end ships but less end and more sky pirate in atheistic.
I mean. I've only recently been building my Aetherian Skies survival map. It is Vanilla Minecraft, though, so there's no need for any texture packs or anything because that's too much work for me to do by myself. I know next to no one who would help me create my floating islands, including texture packs and coding. So I'm building it all by myself, how I see floating islands. I'm proud of what I've built so far. You can thank Tears of the Kingdom for the inspiration. However, I never thought about actually building proper dungeon structures like temples, until I saw your vid about your floating islands survival map. But everything you would see of my Aetherian Skies survival world so far around the central Compass Island and Ring Island that is not structures, are symmetrical islands and stepping stones. I'm still deciding what I want to do, and I'm just building from my head. I have no set plan in mind. I also don't know if I have bedrock floors for all of my islands so players can't fall to their deaths or not. Floating islands are particularly new to me.
@@TheGeekFactor I'd love to use world edit, but whenever I try through forge, the game just crashes on me. It's why I use the Vanilla world edit. The issue with that is how finicky it is. But I'll give the vid a watch, next time I'm on RUclips.
I’m currently working on a realms mini game which is based off of floating islands, I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish, and hopefully will be able to upload it before next year
